  1. Don't know how accurate these Google searches are but........... China Rental phones. Hopefully no government bugs in them either. http://www.pandaphone.com/ http://www.beijing-visitor.com/index.php?cID=413&pID=1337
  2. It's good. Don't crash, unless I want it too. And now Comodo free firewall works with it, to keep the little varmits in Windows from calling home. And Avast free anti-virus has always worked with it. I still prefer the XP interface to the Vista/Windows 7 interface. But I also prefer the XP interface over Windows 98's interface.
  3. This CPU will be gone in a couple of months. Unless the MoBo dies first. Hmmm. I see I have a smilee in my CPU.. 4. Awe, thats still too hard. Can't we just go to somewhere and copy and paste? But heres a pic from the Internet for instructions on how to do it.
  5. USB or PS2? And rebooting after plugging in the working devices? Power down by holding in the power button for 7 seconds for those that don't know what to do when the system really locks up and nothing works. I know I'm being too simple here and you've probably tried this already. But then again, people do put keyboards in the dishwasher to get rid of the chip remnants. And the mean ones pop out the keys and rearrange them for the visual typer's.
  6. Also are you connecting straight to the DSL modem and by-passing your router(not using it). To determine whats to blame.
  7. My ISP being DSL, they have a problem with the default settings for the upload speed, when they move a client to a faster speed tier. Someone has to go in and change the profile of the upload speed. Or sometimes the customers card in the DSL node has gone bad and needs to be changed out. Has this been happening for long? Or is it just in the short while.
  8. Is the 2wire test for you, coming from the States or from Asia? Seems to give an accurate result for me and it is apparently coming from Atlanta area for me. If they have many business customers on the same line area. A timed throttle would be a slow down at a certain time(8 to 12 hours) each and every day.
  9. Also it would depend on who your ISP is, and what form your Internet is(cable, wireless, DSL).
  10. And yet another story on how Intel and Google collaborated on the OS. http://www.tgdaily.com/content/view/43176/140/ And the OS wars have begun.
  11. Heres an interesting story about how Linux in Netbooks failed and how Windows took over. http://www.guardian.co.uk/technology/2009/jul/08/microsoft-asus-linux
  12. So here is, supposedly, the Google OS user agent if you want to screw with some sites admins. http://news.cnet.com/8301-19882_3-10284282-250.html Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; en-US; rv:1.9.0.6) Gecko/2009020911 Google OS/ChromeKernel 0.9 (very secret, to be released soon.) Firefox/3.0.6 And hopefully Google won't put any monitoring ware in the OS. I really hate it when a non-internet program in the OS wants to call home.
  13. Must be the specs of your laptop. But you should be able to run XP, If it will run bloated Vista. I think Microsoft has a tool to see if your system can support what level of Vista. http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windows-vista/get/system-requirements.aspx The upgrade adviser download says it can install in XP and Vista, but the download link only says XP. There is also a link on the download page to see if your system qualifies for Windows 7. http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windows-vista/get/upgrade-advisor.aspx Windows 7 on Oct 22. It is almost like XP to me.
  14. Total time logged in: 3 days, 23 hours and 42 minutes. But I don't always log in and may log out after a post. So I just surf back across the site many times during the day as a LURKER.
  15. Using encryption does help some people. Helps to hide a little bit from the DPI, but some ISP's do throttle encryption, since the user must be up to no good to actually think of keeping their Internet communications private from the prying eyes of the ISP Government. EDIT: And hows your hard drive? Can it keep up with the multiple torrents?
  16. O you missed the best part of the sale. http://www.wired.com/threatlevel/2009/07/insider-trading-suspected-ahead-of-pirate-bay-sale/
  17. You should be able to enable AGP in the BIOS. I've got a Trash Compaq and it automatically recognized the AGP card. Now the kids Vista machine, I had to go into the BIOS to enable the PCI Express card. Computer shops should have used AGP cards for 10 bucks.
  18. So far FireFox is a bit snappier. And most all my Add-Ons, except one, have updated to work with it. The only change the new version made to my customized settings is it changed to "open new windows on external links". I have the browser to not open any new windows(re-use same window), as I just right click if I want to keep the original page. So I fixed it in about:config . browser.link.open-newwindow browser.link.open-external settings are..... Put in number 1 or 2 or 3 for link opens in..... 1:current 2:new window 3:Tab
  19. A non-compatible extension maybe? http://www.google.com/cse?cx=003258325049489668794%3Adrr0nlojlas&ie=UTF-8&q=Chrome+registration&sa=Go
  20. FireFox 3.5 to be released Tuesday. Or about Monday 9pm Pacific time as usual. http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,2817,2349445,00.asp And MozBackup to help backup your settings, Bookmarks, etc. http://mozbackup.jasnapaka.com/
  21. And I guess you have connected directly to the cable modem to rule out the router, whether new or not. Otherwise I do not know.
  22. Are there any Splitters on the cable Internet line? Or a bad connector that is partly shorting across the wires. Or maybe no ground on the incoming wire connection in the cable box on the side of the house(static buildup). Disconnect the TV and see if the loss of signal fixes itself.
  23. Had a quick look round and might you be using Internet Explorer 8? It does give that type of error code. IE chokes or something on some sites. Try FireFox. Or revert back to Internet Explorer 7, if possible. http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/
