Latest news on Conficker. It's now SpamBot central. So it is generally helpful for those that have difficulty erecting organic matter. And causing the better ISP's to cut the users connection off in only a few hours time of Spam routing. http://www.computerworld.com/action/article.do?command=viewArticleBasic&articleId=9131448&intsrc=news_ts_head

We all need to kill at least one computer trying out things. Or at least have to hit the Restore button to fix an Ooooooops. Thats what is nice about having a second Hard Drive to save things too, in case the main Drive with the operating system on it tanks by corruption of the operating system. Tweaks on dialup were real easy. Tweaks on highSpeed Internet connections are a bit more fussy, but still doable. I've read quite a few posts of people over time, who have a crappy ISP and have taken what the ISP support staff says for the truth and then the user just dissolves in to oblivion from the headache of who's right and what is the real fix to the speeds(get a better ISP mostly). And just why is the ISP not responsible for the crap that some support spews forth? I think there is one on here(and a couple of other forums) where support(of Xplornet I think it was, for an Alberta user) said two gigs of ram was not enough to surf fast in Vista. But the user adding 2 more gigs did not help and the couple of posts just ended from the instant frustration(of many months of being lied too by the ISP, to do with what the real problem with speeds is). There is no magic Internet speed program, that is an instant fix. You have to try various codes to see which one is the best, for your particular connection methods.

With SpyBot, it has the line about removing some Nasties, that will cause the questionable program to stop working. I delete cookies everytime I close the browser. Well actually everything in the history file as well. Or I just do 'Ctrl, shift, delete' at the same time to delete all browsing information. Cookies usually regenerate next time you visit a page, But if it is a tracking cookie, deleting cookies can skew any privacy invading programs data collection. But when you log in to a site, like this forum, you need a cookie to keep you logged in as you change pages. That's how online shopping sites work as well. The cookie holds your log in information. I don't allow my browser to get 'Third Party Cookies'. And I never believe that line about a programs collection of "aggregate data', as all data needs a tracking code number to be able to discern your data from another users data. And some cookies are used for serving you different ad's on different websites. So the site knows what ad's have been already given to you or what sites you have been too, to be able to cater specific ad's at you, based on the sites you visit. And by the way for the Lexmark toolbar addon for FireFox, this is it's privacy agreement.. Lexmark does not receive nor collect personal information from the usage of this application. Any change to this policy will be noted in the Privacy Policy of the new version.

You want to see many tool bars on the screen maybe? Ronald shows his displeasure.

question on USB MODEM broadband connection
zalternate replied to zherwell's topic in General Discussion
I've seen many a post where the answers are given and the original poster does not give another reply. But then I see some posters have posted the same question over two or three different forum sites. Yes I am a Google addict. At least my knee has stopped hurting killing me, after fours hours worth of time. Cookies would go good on top of the chili I just had. -
Too many of these tag along downloads on some things now. Either Symantecs Norton or the Ask.com toolbar. The publisher of what you wanted gets a kick back for the extra distribution of a product that you don't want in the first place

The Adobe Shockwave is for a 'richer gaming experience' Bla, Bla, Bla.. It's more Stable than Flash rendered games I've found. I'd of thought that Symantecs Security Scan would be listed in it's own add/remove line? Well at least it was not the Ask.com virus.... Well thats what many people call it. Cause they don't read the installer to uncheck the default checked areas. And it don't uninstall cleanly and people have had to go in to various settings in their browsers to eradicate it. I still default to Dialup days and don't let anything do auto-updates. Then at least I know what is getting downloaded with the updates.

question on USB MODEM broadband connection
zalternate replied to zherwell's topic in General Discussion
A USB router to allow the computer that is connected in to the Internet, to make a wireless access point for wireless computers to connect too and share the computers Internet connection... Just a basic unit. http://reviews.cnet.com/routers/synet-windy31-usb-wireless/4505-3319_7-32909973.html Hopefully this is the answer to the posters question... -

question on USB MODEM broadband connection
zalternate replied to zherwell's topic in General Discussion
Unless I understand the question wrong. Might the poster be referring to a "USB Stick" Wireless Internet connection? And I think you put a card in the main computer it is plugged in to, to share the connection? Unless there is a router that takes a USB stick modem. -
Without looking in to it.... Might you happen to have an ActiveX control sitting in your Internet Explorer?.. tool, internet options, settings, view objects. And then you can right click to check properties of who belongs to the ActiveX controls. Or since I had some time to look it up. Got Adobe(shockwave flash player for games)? Maybe it was a tag along download. I really, really hate those.... http://www.adobe.com/products/director/special/crossproduct/faq.html And it should be in the Add/remove programs listings.

My mums computer before I replaced the failing hard drive had the Norton by Symantec updater launch a few times. Was just a remnant that was drifting on the hard drive(you can remove the locator of the program but it still sits on the hard drive), Even after the Norton removal tool had been used on it originally. Use the MalWareBytes that has been quoted before. http://www.download.com/Malwarebytes-Anti-Malware/3000-8022_4-10804572.html?tag=mncol;pop&cdlPid=10896905 install update and scan. You can also go to,,, Start, run, type in msconfig and then to startup and see if something is set to startup on power up of machine. http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=fake+norton&btnG=Google+Search&aq=f&oq= Heres a link to an interesting video for those Google searches for 'Free Today only' FAKE anti-virus products. http://www.net-security.org/malware_news.php?id=993

Internet Exploder 8 works great! On my windows 7 Beta box, I launch it and then click 'safety' and then click Windoze update. Flawless every time. Does it do anything else?

I tried Chrome for a few days when it was first released. I Didn't really care for the auto updater in the first place. But when I uninstalled it(if I remember all correctly), The Google updater stayed installed and continued to run. And I'm pretty sure that my Firewall told me about it still being there working. As some programs, Since they keep turning on 'Auto Update' when I update them(Java and QuickTime), I have them set to 'Alert Me' when they want to get on the Internet to update. I think I just deleted the Google updater folder to ditch it(I'm on a XP 'reinstall' since I had it, so I can't go searching for any remnants). And isn't Sygate about 4 or 5 years years past the last time it was updated? Damn Symantec buying them out and killing the product. It was a nice Firewall. And that AVG product version update warnings are now so designed to get people to pay instead of looking for the free version of the same release. http://download.cnet.com/AVG-Anti-Virus/3000-2239_4-10385707.html?tag=mncol 86.63 MB download.. Can you say BLOAT? I knew you could. In the region of Symatecs bloated product lines now.

Nah. Notice the camera angle changes and his crouch is slightly off. And some here may say that only a gun shooting blanks would smoke like that. Can't have the actor having live rounds bouncing around in that Empty mailbox cylinder. Was watching a show called Evening Magazine on King5 tv in Seattle. They had a top ten April first hoaxes and one was where an old show called 'Almost Live' , had a fake news break during the show and the fake newsman said the Seattle Space Needle had fallen down, with cut and paste pics of a fallen tower. Many people then overloaded the 911 service cause they did not notice the bits about it being April first, etc. Can't find a video clip..... EDIT: heres a promo of the show... http://www.king5.com/video/eveningmagazine-index.html?nvid=347974 And the Space Needle prank bit.. http://www.king5.com/video/eveningmagazine-index.html?nvid=347972

Just reading Google news and here is a link to two tests to 'generally' see if you are infected with Conficker. There is a test button just below "check to see if you are infected". http://www.confickerworkinggroup.org/wiki/#toc1 Interesting test. So if you even have another virus, you may not be able to get the linked pics from the anti-virus sites to show up. Link to test page itself.. http://www.confickerworkinggroup.org/infection_test/cfeyechart.html And this one as well. http://iv.cs.uni-bonn.de/fileadmin/user_upload/werner/cfdetector/ Less detail though... All from the article of.. http://news.cnet.com/8301-1009_3-10210934-83.html conficker is still alive, but waiting for the attention to dissipate. 'Conficker' Also known as 'Configuration F*cker'.

Yea, those are a pain for the uninformed. After installing something it's good to have a look around for any extra's that you don't actually need(like over zealous auto updaters). And always make sure to read the installer screens, even though some programs don't notify of everything that gets installed. And when uninstalling there are those extra's that hang around waiting for the program to be installed again. Some programs put something in to the add-ons in FireFox(A security flaw to many). And sometimes make a mess with instability or the urge to phone home. But thats what a two way firewall is for. Ask my permission before access to the Internet.

Have you found a site with just that April Fools look. Post it or at least the link to the Jpeg image... Or wonder why there is a Guinea pig in the server? http://img.fark.net/images/aprilfools/2008/guineapigfoolz08.jpg YouTubes new layout? Warner Bros. Acquires The Pirate Bay? http://torrentfreak.com/warner-bros-acquires-the-pirate-bay-090401/ Adding a Mailbox Gag. The ending will leave you Gaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa. WTF? No skinny Jokers were harmed in the making of the show.. It's like Americas funniest Home Videos, but without the hits to the crotch. http://www.youtube.com/watch?gl=US&eurl=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.esquire.com%2Fthe-side%2Fvideo%2Fpranks033007%3Fsrc%3Ddigg&feature=player_embedded&v=F_HESNR69Pw

There is a cure and I don't know if it was rolled out to standard anti-virus programs, as well, late monday and today.

RF interference issue? Move the FIOS box over a few feet if you can. There are some cable boxes that have issues with the TV and channels will change themselves on the cable box.

Hughesnet is pretty hardcore with the FAP. No Loose FAP limits on the first month.

Generally when both your download and upload are showing slow, that could mean the dish is out of alignment. I am guessing you have the HN9000 modem, so you would be on the newish satellite spaceway3,For new installs.. you should also use at least the 1.5MB test for testing speeds. type in to your browser 192.168.0.1 to access your modems error codes and it should say your connection stats. Your receive signal strength should be in the 150 range (very roughly). I am on DSL, so it is from other posts that the information comes from.... And latency could be in the 600ms range , but software on the system makes it in the 1000ms range. To enable more customers to get on the system.

So might you know where you got the Trojans from? Just curious. And I hope they fix that security hole in FireFox with the 'unauthorized' Add-Ons. If you install something and it puts in a Add-On with out asking? Thats a security hole. There is the permission whitelist for a website install that is being by-passed by downloading a program and then installing that way.
