dont do the update wizard just download the file and do the manual update. look on the bottom of your modem if the model number starts with B9xxxxxxxx use this firmware http://www.fastaccess.drivers.bellsouth.net/firmware/B90-610030_VER_3_06_02.upg if it starts with C9xxxxxxx use this one http://www.fastaccess.drivers.bellsouth.net/firmware/C90-610030_VER_3_06_02.upg update then post a speed test.

well that sounds like you make have some spyware running system do some scans and see.

technically they dont resell there DSL they just lease the line semo.net so they can have there own services. its just a way for the telco to make some extra money. they are both the same if you can get one you can get the other. Earthlink does this same exact thing they lease lines from major ISPs.

reno like swimmer said check out ebay you can get really good servers for pertty cheap. anything over 2.4ghz with 1gb of ram will be good for pertty much any game. If you are going to be making it a internet game server then you are going to need a pertty good internet connection.
