Hello again whiteolorin, Yes, it most certainly WOULD be nice if DirecWay would GIVE a little instead of constantly taking, but do not be looking for them to provide any "boost" to you ever.
-
Amen to the exceedingly long hours and hard work that has been invested by CA3LE to bring such a beneficial website to the entire Internet Community who, incidentally, are doing more than simply dropping by for Speed Tests or occasional assistance.

I need some help with a download problem
The Reverend replied to whiteolorin's topic in HughesNet (DIRECWAY)
Super whiteolorin! Again, I'm sorry that I couldn't pull in that file for you, but at least the "magic answer" found it's way to you, and that's what this forum is all about. -
i hate Norton. Plain and Simple.
The Reverend replied to Indestructable's topic in General Discussion
I had Norton (Symantec) for years, then out of boredom I decided to try out Zone Alarm Pro. (Contrary to what I've read it has no effect on my speeds in the least). But, that isn't why I am posting this article. Ever since I moved up to a DW6000 and started using the Hardware Firewall on my Router, there hasn't been a single hit to my Zone Alarm Pro firewall. All it does now is keep stuff from getting OUT. Prior to that, (and because my IP was static), it logged and stopped over 107,000 "attacks" from the hackers that love to prey on DirecWay users. Now, a lowly little Hardware Firewall is keeping everything quiet on my homefront. I love it. Lastly, VanBuren is right. Norton Internet Security has A TON of features you won't find on comparable softwares, and although it uses a bit more resources, it is well worth what it is using! Cheers! -
I normally try to restrict myself to the DirecWay users area, yet I see that nobody has answered you for well over an hour, so I'll stick my neck out and give this a shot okay? I don't know what tool you may have used that might have screwed up your settings, so here are some "possible" fixes: 1. Do a System Restore if you are using Windows XP 2. Download "Cablenut" (which is advertised all over this website or rather, is 'downloadable' at www.dslreports.com), let it set everything back to the default settings, then retweak using that same programme. 3. Wait for somebody more knowledgable than myself with 'standard' broadband issues to "notice" and reply to your post! 4. Find VanBuren on this website and ask him directly via his e-mail link. He'll be happy to assist you, yet bear in mind he's always extremely busy, and perhaps that is why he hasn't personally answered your post already. RTB (The Troll Guy) is another one that is quite competent and well able to answer your question(s) too. Sorry I could not have been of more precise help! Cheers! *Hang in there ....it's been a VERY busy day with no end in sight!

Alright BrawnyDawg! If you have applied what few tweaks I supplied you with for IE6, then you are running "flat out" to the best of anyones knowledge right now.

How much faster is FireFox than I.E. on your machine!!!
The Reverend replied to MICROWAVE's topic in General Discussion
My FireFox speeds are identical to my IE6 (SP2) speeds. No diff at any time of day or night. In fact, the same applies to Opera and all of the other "popular" minibrowsers out there. They don't offer my system any additonal speed in the least. BUT ...I am an unwilling DirecWay user, and Satellite Internet is a whole different animal as compared to DSL or RoadRunner or ???? Cheers! -
Well dang BrawnyDawg, I didn't realise that you were using Mozilla, so perhaps NONE of the info I gave you is of any use. I DO know that right now the web is going about as fast as it ever does, so you really should be getting another 200 than what you are unless you are in a city with ALOT of interference! By chance do you have an updated copy of IE6 installed (with SP2)? I have a feeling THAT very well may be where the "missing" 200Fbps has gone. I just took a speed test using the same criteria you did, and I'm running about 200 faster than you. I don't have Mozilla loaded as an alternate browser, so in the meantime I'll get a copy installed and mess with it to see if it just may be dragging you down (and to see if I can find a tweak to spark some life into it. Some folks get better results with the "light-weight" browsers, but for a DW6000, well - - it's designed from the ground up to work with Internet Explorer 6 with SP2 installed. It's worth a shot if you really want to research all the avenues of approach until everything is exhausted right? Cheers! *I'll keep this open (as always) so that I don't miss your next post.

Hey There Van-B! Not only has CA3BLE seen it, but we've been messaging back and forth.
-
Well dang ....I got to a bit over 3megs 2 times then it just quit transferring on me so I gave it up.
-
Hey There BrawnyDawg, I'm using a DW6000 with a .98m dish and Commercial Account.
-
I'm downloading the file as I type, but the dang thing is only rolling in at 36.7KB/Sec ...so it's going to be awhile.

I need some help with a download problem
The Reverend replied to whiteolorin's topic in HughesNet (DIRECWAY)
I think you'll find there are more than enough "willing members" here to download that file, split it up into several pieces using a file-splitting program, and then make it available to you in 100meg sizes, or 25meg, or whatever it takes to work smoothly for you. -
HI, I clinked on the lick, I mean clicked on the link, Windows Media 10 player opened right up and started downloading the file ....it begins with an outside pic of Letterman's studio ...and the download speed must have been pretty decent as it was rolling right in (Media Player 10 doesn't tell you "numbers" ...they like keeping you guessing huh)? Say Van-B, I have no clue why you are pulling a "zero zone" as you describe ...the Vies Source is 'typical' at this end anyway. And Indestructable ...I'd recommend Apache simply because it's easy and there is no lack of support for it! But everyone has their differing likes and dislikes right)? What a boring world we would live in if everyone was in agreement ...no debates, no wars, no differences of any kind? YUK!!! ....lol. Cheers!

I need some help with a download problem
The Reverend replied to whiteolorin's topic in HughesNet (DIRECWAY)
Hi whiteolorin, If you have a FAP threshold of (what is it? 167MB for most users?), the FAP will actually start to 'kick in' sometimes LONG before you reach your limit. -
DWay is open 24/7 ..just call 1-866-347-3292 and follow the voice prompts.
-
ooooooooooooooOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOoooooooooooooooohhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh.
-
Say what now? That's a rather impressive jump in measurement there HarleyRider25670!
-
Hey there TBrown, Before I upgraded to a DW6000 with .98m dish I was using DW4000 modems and a .71m dish on Sat-Mex5.
-
Hey There Microwave Everyone knows that their ISPs "spy" like crazy on them, sell them out to anyone with a buck in their hand that resells the info, yet they (overall) pretty much treat you like dirt yet smile while they do it.
-
That is quite true about the DW4000 modems ...unplug them for 10 minutes and everything in them is "forgotten" ...which comes in quite handy at times!
-
Now THAT would be a lovely sight to see on my screens, yet alas ...around 1,000 is as good as they'll give me. You are correct in that they DO keep track of your surfing habits, and that's why I bought two accounts;
-
Ummm, I've posted this before, and perhaps it has to do with the fact that I'm using a Commercial Account with an upload factor (enhanced) of 256k, but my kiddos are able to play Graal and Starwars Galaxies (Sony) without any troubles (Using a DW6000, fast computers and a .98m dish).
-
My FAP Threshold (limit) is 800 Megabytes, however, I have repeatedly "hit" my limit and then gone over it by as much as 1,000 before the FAP actually kicked in.
