What are you advertised speeds? What router and adapter are you using? What tweaks have you done so far? Can you provide a traceroute from both wired and wireless connections?

True, but then, how would you know to secure the signal if you don't know anything about the technology, and nobody has told you? I think that maybe the fault is the lack of education on the end of the vendor or ISP. Then again, the router probably comes with a manual....

I believe your MTU should be 1492.

The worst that can happen, if you set the NIC to the wrong speed or duplex, is that your Local Area Connection will tell you that you have a "Network cable unplugged." If this happens, then you know that the current settings are not supported by the modem/router.

Are you rebooting after applying the cablenut settings? Can you provide speedtest results?

Not bad at all. If you find that your speeds fluctuate, your wireless card may have come with an antenna that will increase signal reception. Otherwise, just be sure that your system is squeeky clean.
