  1. What is the error that you get when you try to renew the IP address from the command prompt (ipconfig/renew)?
  2. OK, shut em all down and test again.
  3. Welcome to the forum, Carter. If you haven't stopped here already, this is your bible: http://www.testmy.net/forum/index.php?topic=2097.0 Otherwise, make sure you are running the speedtest with your firewall and browser toolbars disabled. Can you provide a traceroute?
  4. Got a firewall? Got browser toolbars? Got spyware? Got messengers or p2p's running? Got any other downloads running?
  5. Well isn't that just a thing of beauty.
  6. I would definitely keep it comin. First off, make sure your registry is cool, try ccleaner found here: www.ccleaner.com Download, update and run SpyBot S&D: http://www.safer-networking.org/en/index.html Download, update and run Ad-Aware: http://www.lavasoft.com/support/download/ I would also suggest trying an online virus scan, such as http://housecall.trendmicro.com/ Finally, when you PC is clean of crap, get cablenut (info found HERE) and apply VanBuren's setting which is closest to your advertised speeds.
  7. Probably looking for constructive comments, ladies and gentlemen, constructive comments. For example, one might say something like this: "Your connection looks pretty poor, considering your advertised speeds" But being the good Testmy.net member that you are, you might also add something along these lines: "I would suggest trying the links provided above, as they worked for me. Make sure that you are spyware- and virus-free (there are many free anti-virus and -spyware tools, just search google). Run a test with your firewall disabled, or try a direct connection to your modem if you are using a router. Also, it often helps to clear the cache and cookies in your browser, and to disable any additional browser toolbars, like the Google toolbar. If you have any questions or require clarification, just ask!"
  8. :haha: I'm seeing timeouts on hop 1 and high times on hop 4.
  9. Hello, shotinthedark, and welcome to the forum. Have you made any software or hardware changes?
  10. Hello and welcome, ctlenator. If you haven't already, I'd suggest starting here: http://www.testmy.net/forum/index.php?topic=2097.0 Things that could be the cause: firewall, router, toolbars...
  11. If it's standard, then you are looking really good.
  12. This is turning into a demonstration
  13. Total time logged in: 10 days, 4 hours and 24 minutes.
  14. Have you made any hardware or software changes recently? like install, uninstall, update, etc.
  15. Oh, burn.
  16. I would suggest running a firewall for every second that you are online, as opposed to turning it off and on. raptors892004 suggested some very good *free* firewalls that I would use in place of the XP firewall. It does not hurt to run a software firewall (ZoneAlarm) and a hardware firewall (Linksys) at the same time, as they each perform different tasks. As for the slow down, were you able to determine which firewall was the culprit?
  17. That's why we have THIS
  18. Blunted 2, my opinion is this: the program is being targetted by activity that you don't want (you blocked it, didn't you?), so remove it and get another one that's probably better anyway.
  19. oh yep.
  20. Right at the top actually (yeah I'm a smartass) Tracing route to testmy.net [67.18.179.85] over a maximum of 30 hops:
  21. Yeah, but still...your firewall is telling you that it is blocking an incoming connection targetted at this app....you gotta wonder why, no?
  22. First of all, I would not attempt to uncap your modem because your ISP will 100% notice and your ass will be theirs in a legal suit for the next few years. Second, North American ISPs block SNMP because it is vulnerable to DoS attacks. Good luck with that....it makes me laugh harder than the other.
