  1. Good job. Just let us know what happens, eh?
  2. You still have some really high times to the modem (1st hop).
  3. DMZ = De-Militarized Zone.
  4. If you are serious about going ethernet, you should be able to tell your ISP that it's not practical for you to use USB (you don't have any free ports, you want to hook up a router, etc.), and they should be obligated to resolve that. I would just be sure before calling that you can connect via ethernet to something else, otherwise they may tell you that it is your NIC.
  5. That's a pretty good site. I think I'm gonna add it to my favorites, too. TY.
  6. They all have their quirks, but I find ZA to be the best.
  7. Oh dude... ....that's exactly why i got a remote starter for mine.
  8. We had chat here once................... Ask Frank what he thought about it. While you're at it, ask him if has any new gossip.
  9. It never hurts to start here: http://www.testmy.net/forum/index.php?topic=2097.0
  10. You have some high times on the first hop, to the modem. That's gonna throw everything else out of whack. The first thing I would try to resolve this is to force the duplex on your NIC. In WINXP: -device manager >> network adapters >> right-click NIC >> properties >> advanced tab -depending on the drivers, there may be a number of headings here (Duplex, Duplex Mode, Media Type) -choose 10Mbps or 10BaseTx for the speed -choose Half Duplex for the duplex mode -click ok, restart PC After this is done, perform another traceroute and speedtest
  11. Have you been able to use ethernet to connect your computer to another device, like a router or a different modem? If so, I would be calling your ISP and asking whats up with that gateway. You're probably due for a new one, unless something needs to be activated on their end.
  12. Hello and welcome, rainjaguar83. Please begin by reading this thread: http://www.testmy.net/forum/index.php?topic=2097.0 Post back if you have any questions or clarification.
  13. I would make a direct connection with your modem, then post speedtest results and traceroute. This will determine whether it is the router causing restriction and speed loss.
  14. If that doesn't work, type 192.168.0.1 into the address bar of your web browser, and look in there. Try looking under Setup/Configuration....I'm thinking that maybe it's possible that ethernet connection is disabled Are there other ethernet ports on the gateway-majigger?
  15. OK, che-check it. 1. disconnect USB 2. connect ethernet 3. reset modem/gateway 4. from command prompt, type netsh winsock reset catalog and hit enter 5. exit the command prompt and restart your PC. 6. check/renew IP You can always plug the USB back in later if it don't work. But trust me, ethernet speeds will always exceed those over USB. It's in the technology. You want speed, it's ethernet you need!
  16. still using that USB?
  17. Are you using both ethernet and USB right now?
  18. It all depends on what kind of activity they're up to, and how you have them configured. Shutting them down is simply the easiest way to remove this from the equation. As for the Outpost, try deleting the logs and restarting your computer. There may be something corrupt in there. Otherwise, try turning features off one-by-one and see what most affects your speed.
  19. Yeah, that's odd that the ethernet light stays on with no cable hooked up. What is this Actiontec Gateway #2 getting the 192.168 IP? Have you tried disabling it from the device manager? Make sure that you have your ethernet cable hooked directly into the modem, and that there is no USB cable attached to the modem and powercycle it by removing the power for about 1 min, then returning the power and then restart the PC.
  20. That's the fun of it, you can try any number of different .ccs files to see which is best. Just remember to reboot your PC after saving each, as it is a registry setting. Also, keep in mind that these are all preset, and you can always tweak them a bit yourself. As far as why some servers are faster than others, it depends on several factors: traffic, distance, upstream of the server, path through network/backbone. I wouldn't sweat it too much, though. Testmy.net has the most accurate speedtests on the net.
  21. from the command prompt: -type net stop dhcp and hit enter -type net start dhcp and hit enter -type ipconfig/all and hit enter....still 169.254.x.x? -type ipconfig/renew and hit enter....still unable to contact dhcp server? -type netsh int ip reset resetlog.txt and hit enter -type exit and hit enter -right-click my computer-->properties-->hardware-->device manager -expand network adapters, uninstall your nVidia NIC -restart PC Windows should reinstall your NIC after restart.
  22. Yes, I would say that this is your next step.
  23. A traceroute is a utility of TCP/IP which maps the path that data takes from your PC through the networks to the destiniation. It is a good tool because it bypasses any software you have, and shows if there are any problems with your ISP. -click start, click run -type cmd and click ok -type tracert testmy.net and hit enter If you copy and paste your results here, we will help you makes heads or tails of them.
