  1. Drivers for NIC? usu. handled by the manufacturer. To check drivers: -go to device manager (right-click my computer, properties, hardware tab, device manager) -under network adapters, right-click NIC, click properties -go to drivers tab, click driver info this will show you the driver version and file name To update: -from device manager, right-click NIC and choose update driver
  2. Definitely could be better. Notice that the first hop (to the modem) is very high. I would try forcing your NIC to half-duplex and 10Mbps/10baseT.
  3. I'm looking for help in recovering a deleted account (mailbox) in Mac OS X (any version). Basically what happens when you delete an account in iMail (or mail.app, if you prefer) is that, unlike a deleted identity in Outlook Express, all the contents of the respective inbox magically evaporate, nowhere to be found anywhere on the hard drive for recovery. I could not find any useful articles on this, via Apple support or elsewhere. However, I refuse to believe that there is no way to restore these lost messages. I have heard tell that there is a terminal script fix for this, but Apple keeps such things under lock and key. Can anyone help me?
  4. Reminds me of a book I read once.....1984 was it?
  5. Can you provide a traceroute with a direct connection?
  6. Welcome to the forum, sever. Please read this and post back: http://www.testmy.net/forum/index.php?topic=2097.0
  7. Makes sense to me. The router would only provide the Internet signal to the switch, and the wireless access, but for the wired network through the switch speeds should be up to 1G.
  8. This is often true. If you are knowledgable to spot the difference, then you shouldn't have any trouble. But sometimes valid files are infected or are exhibiting malicious behaviour, and the only action an AV can take is to quarantine it. Most AVs will notice the nature of the file and simply deem it uncleanable rather than treating it. As for Ccleaner, I have never had any issues with it deleting something that caused any trouble, which is why I recommend it, but I have noticed this with other apps. The programs I have recommended I have used personally and trust.
  9. I would highly recommend doing so. You may find a significant increase in your PC's performance after doing so, even if you don't quite reach your cap. Trouble with DSL is that you are going through phone lines, many of which are very old and often overloaded. So you may never quite reach cap, or if you do, you may experience some fluxuation. But I would suggest running Adaware, Spybot, Ccleaner, and a antivirus to be sure that your PC is running properly.
  10. Nope.
  11. Did you check to make sure that your NIC is set to 100Mbps versus 10? I would also set it to full duplex, but you might try half duplex to see which works better for you.
  12. When connected to the router, are you able to ping testmy.net or 67.18.179.85?
  13. I still think it is something on your system. The trace you provided wouldn't cause speedtest results as low as the ones you got. Did you download and run the apps I suggested earlier? Are you running a firewall? What browser do you use? Do you have any addons/toolbars active while running the test?
  14. Start, run, type services.msc. Find Security Centre and disable it.
  15. Time Warner Cable = AOL, Earthlink, and RoadRunner. Adelphia was also split between TWC and Comcast, a figure that was not factored into this poll. Plus, AOL and Google recently signed a $1 Billion contract: http://www.timewarner.com/corp/newsroom/pr/0,20812,1142800,00.html
  16. Also, make sure your machine is clean.
  17. What is the speedtest with a direct connection? BTW, disable/shut down firewall when running speedtest and traceroute.
  18. What is the speedtest with a direct connection?
  19. While, connected via USB, try this: from device manager, try right-clicking conflicted NIC --> update drivers, and allowing windows to search via the Internet for current drivers (may take a while).
  20. Search google for a free anonymous proxy. Once you find one, add it to your Internet properties.
  21. What IP address do you get? obv don't give the whole thing, but is it 169, 192, etc.?
