  4. Check in the device manager, under network adapters. Make sure your NIC is here and not conflicted. If you NIC is missing, check also under other devices. If there is a conflict, reinstall the drivers. If it is not present at all, it may not be seated in the mobo properly, or it may be totally shot. If the NIC shows w/out conflict, sometimes you can uninstall the NIC and restart the PC to resolve this issue.

  9. OK, basically answered your own question. Ethernet card, or Network Interface Card (NIC), is the spot you stick the cable from the modem. So we can scratch that. ~Well, the next step I'd try is to update the drivers for your wireless adapter. Right click my computer, choose properties. Click the device manager tab, click to select view devices by type, and click the plus next to network adapters to expand it. List your entries here if you're not sure which is your wireless. To update the drivers, go to the website of the vendor of the adapter. ~You could try restoring your browser: Internet Explorer 6 -open Internet Explorer, click Tools, click Internet Options -under the General tab: -click "Delete Cookies" and click "ok" to the dialogue box -click "Delete Files", put a check where it says "delete all offline content" and click "ok" to the dialogue box -click "Clear history" and click yes to the dialogue box -where it says "Days to keep pages in history" set it to 5 or less (the default is 20) -under the Security tab: -click the "Default level" button -under the Privacy tab: -click the "Default" button -under the Connections tab: -make sure it is set to "Never dial a connection" -click the "LAN Settings" button, set it to "Automatically detect settings" and click ok -under the Programs tab: -click the "Reset web settings" button, click "yes" to the dialogue box -under the Advanced tab: -click the "Restore defaults" button -click apply, then ok -close and reopen Internet Explorer, test for browsing on a few different site Mozilla FireFox -select Tools from the menu bar and then click on Options -select General from the menu on the left and click on the Connection Settings button -put a dot in Auto-detect proxy settings for this network -select the Privacy Icon from the left menu and clear all values ~I would also suggest getting some additional spyware removers. Lavasoft Adaware: http://www.lavasoft.de/ms/index.htm Spybot Search & Destroy: http://www.safer-networking.org/microsoft.en.html Both work great with Win98.
  10. hey white33, welcome to the forum. Your upload is nice. Do you have an ethernet card on your PC? If so, I would try to connect your PC directly to your modem. ie. unplug the ethernet cord from the router and put it in the PC. Then shut down the PC, unplug the modem, wait 2 mins, plug in the modem, start up PC. Then test you download speed once again. Also, I'm seeing Singapore. Distance to the server can play a big role. You can try some of the mirrors here: https://testmy.net/mirrors.php
  11. You need to dump your Internet cache. For IE: -click Tools, click Internet Options -click delete files and check the box to delete all offline content -click ok -close and reopen IE For FF: -click Tools, click Options -click privacy, click cache, click clear -click ok -close and reopen FF
  12. You probably shouldn't leave the house....unless it's straight to the shrink's and back.
  13. 6 inches on the ground here. Van, I got my sled all fixed up and ready to go. Had to replace a piston (burned it out last spring) and head gasket. Squeals like a banshee now. Not enough base down yet, but I'm ready.
  14. Wow. Good call. So why do we mash the buttons harder on the remote control when we know that the batteries are low? And who puts the thin ice sign on the thin ice?
  15. Welcome to the forum,
  16. Here is yet another way: -click start, run, type: services.msc and click ok -find messenger from the list and double-click -set startup type to disabled -click apply, click ok
  17. You may have better luck testing from a mirror closer to you. There is one in Germany (https://testmy.net/o-mirror-just-) and one in Sweden (https://testmy.net/o-mirror-VanBuren) But your traceroute shows a very good connection.
  18. You can report these emails at the Internet Crime Complaint Center = http://www.ic3.gov
  19. Hey barutcu, welcome to the forum. Could you post a traceroute to google.com while your speeds are low? A traceroute is the best indication of what your actual, physical connection is doing. The reason that this is important is because if your traceroute is fine, then you know you have some software running that is messing with your test results.
  20. Welcome to the forum, Jab-Diddle. Good question. I'm not sure about how the speedtests operate as far as accounting for packet losses and the impact on the results, but the best way to test your packet loss to the server is to ping it over a high number of hops. For example: ping -n 50 <URL or IP address of server>
