  1. Oh, btw, this would cause your invalid speed test results:
  2. OH MAN, THAT'S ROUGH!! wow...ok, try booting to safe mode and run some AV scans -boot up computer, hit F8 quickly -when boot screen comes up, choose safe mode
  3. Looking at your tracert, there is some lag between the router and modem. Try a direct connection and see if your speeds are up to your cap. If they are, look to upgrading the firmware from the website of the router vendor.
  4. One way to find out.
  5. Can't start to safe mode? try this: -click start, click run -type: msconfig -hit enter -click the BOOT.INI tab -check the box for /SAFEBOOT -click apply, click ok/close, click restart when it prompts you this should automatically take you to safe mode. to reverse the process, just remove the check mark from /SAFEBOOT and restart
  6. LOL you know you can copy from the command prompt.
  7. Me either, i say OS. which reminds me, try this al244: -from the command prompt, type: ping 127.0.0.1 -hit enter Post your results here
  8. I'd suggest Linksys, i find they make the best networking hardware. As far as the licence key...is your copy of Windows legit? lol....if it is, you shouldn't need one.
  9. Yeah, so you may want to look at a new NIC....i'd get a good one, make sure it is 100Mbps capable....you may also need an OS reinstall too
  10. :haha:
  11. It's the thrill of the chase! When it comes to computers, I've never agreed with the philosophy of "if'n it ain't broke, don't fix it" I say: "If it ain't broke, mess with it until it is broke, then format and reinstall"
  12. Is your IP address still 169.254.x.x?
  13. OK, so here's what you do: -Open my computer, go to the C: drive -Open the Windows folder -click Tools at the top, choose folder options, click on the view tab -in the Advanced settings window, find Hidden files and folders and set it to Show hidden files and folders -click apply, click ok -find and open the inf folder -find the file Nettcpip.inf, right-click it, go to open with and choose notepad
  14. the Windows folder IS your root folder
  15. "Windows" folder = root folder = %winroot%
  16. Basically you are unable to obtain an IP address.
  17. If you have a direct connection, network card is installed properly, TCP/IP was reset using netshell command, no firewalls.....yup most likely a winsock corruption slash virus. Did you powercycle the modem?
  18. Gotta love it. Got any antivirus software? run it. You can try to restore the winsock and winsock2. This is the best walkthrough for it: http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;318584
  19. You can try to reset your TCP/IP stack: -click start, click run -type cmd and click ok -on the command line, type netsh int ip reset resetlog.txt -hit enter and wait for the next command line -type exit and hit enter -reboot your PC and try to connect Also, if your IP address is 169.254.x.x, try to renew it to see if it is a winsock corruption: -click start, click run -type cmd and click ok -on the command line, type ipconfig -if the IP address starts 169 then type: ipconfig/renew...what is the error it comes back with? -if the IP address starts with something else, then you are connected to something or another
  20. I'm sure there will be some.
  21. LOL i guessed this guy missed lesson 1 of hacking: CYOA
  22. I would suggest you stop using reg cleaner. Those things are useless if you've ever intentionally made registry changes. They will basically only help to get rid of redundant values (ie. old programs that weren't properly removed), and only work on a general template, not specific to your PC. Also, reg cleaner may be overriding your cablenut settings.
