  1. Are you talking about the start menu ? Have you tried right clicking on any empty space on the task bar for options ?
  2. I'm the same way, so I take my time, and enjoy looking, and learning what all the features are, so I get the one that suits the specific installation the best. Post when you find one that you like, or whatever hey ?
  3. Look on this page, in my opinion, you want a PFC power supply when running good video cards, it uses the power better, and from what I understand, more stability, which video cards depend on BIG time. http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductList.aspx?Submit=ENE&N=2000320058+4026+1131509966&Configurator=&Subcategory=58&description=&Ntk=&SpeTabStoreType=&srchInDesc=
  4. I k now it's off what were tryin to do, but man, that's a nice hard drive !!!! EDIT, damn, the whole thing is awesome !!!!! Dude, get a decent power supply, it's the life blood of all that stuff
  5. I would find out how many hard drives I have, what type of connection the video card takes, and other things like this, you get the idea. I think Ryan will be a good one for that, he's up on it .
  6. Most BOIS have a voltage utility, if your able to get in there, look around and glance at where the voltages are. See what looks odd, say if there's heavy swings, or anything out of the ordinary. Other then that I think it's safe to say you'll need to install a power supply rated for the MB. Lot's of people say you don't need a PS w/ that much more then 3-500 watts, I disagree. You buy the best one you can afford to buy, nothing less. The PS breaths life into every component in that machine, all the devices in there need specific voltages, some heavy, some very light ( to put it simple). If the PS is crappy, and unstable, then so will the machine follow. Get a good one, one that you can depend on to supply the correct currents as they were meant to be. The most that's going to be able to be done w/ the PS ( unless he's familiar with changing resistors, and diodes, and capacitors ect. , is a fuse change, and thats's not your problem. Your parents machine is older, and they weren't nearly as demanding on the PS as they are now, so naturally , it will last longer. A "rail" is where the voltage runs through, when you hear two twelve volt rails, that means it has two separate 12 volt output ports. This is good for many things today when you have several hard drives in there, so the power is more evenly dispersed, and the demand in not put on just one area, therefore your not stressing the PS. Some have three, of four rails, or output ports. Unless your running raid on several HDD's then you don't need that. Just size up your system, depending on how many drives you have, and if your video card needs power, then you can determine what you need, and get a little more. They have very efficient ones , called "HE " high efficiency, they will lower the power consumption when the demand isn't there, in return, the thing lasts longer, and the electric bill shows, ( to some extent anyway)
  7. My first thought in this is the power supply wasn't rated for the motherboard, it wasn't a power outage, it was his computer frying. Hope everything is ok over there...............
  8. Keeping in mind the CPU can fry in a matter of seconds w/o a heat sink and thermal compound.
  9. Decent PS but it doesn't look as if it is modular. Did you try what ryan suggested? that's an idea. Iv'e never tried that one, don't know if i would.
  10. Some newer power supplies have what they call "modeler" connectors. Where you have more then one "rail" or sections within the power supply, two or more may have 12 volts, is it possible you have one of these ? If it is, you could try switching rails.
  11. I'm still thinking about this, and I am wondering if it is possible that you lost a rail in your power supply.
  12. Do you know what you should be getting on the download ?
  13. Can I ask how long was the computer running the conversion software ? I know it gets pretty warm sometimes when doing that no? Maybe you could reset the bios, (either jumper , or battery) since nothing else is working.
  14. I think we'll have to wait until coknuck gets here on this one, I can't seem to find much on it, and I don't use it.
  15. You are pressing whatever keys you usually do to get into the bios , and still nothing ? Have you tried to unplug the power and cable to the hard drive to see if you can at least get to the bios ?
  16. Hell yes, cool as hell, I was just bein an ass Very cool, never seen anything like it.
  17. I could easily do with 1-3 Mbps , it doesn't have to be so fast your eye's miss the change in pages. Really.
  18. The things they come up with to get away with not doing your job , America.
  19. Because of what I was trying to explain.
  20. So your telling me that no one needs the location, it will just "be there" ? Look, it does work,(and it's cool) ! The browser will automatically add the prefix, well, nevermind, I was just trying to shed light, I jumped in where I shouldn't have
  21. I haven't tried this one, but I did save it for next time, this happens all the time, people loose that thing when they have someone else build there box, so hey, thanks man !
  22. First, no one will access the cam without the prefix "http://" and "www" then whatever you have named the directory ( camera ) , and you must setup the router to allow it. Even you will not access it from another machine without the proper prefix. example " IP address " or /IP/camera/who knows " see what I mean ? There will be some sort of setup involved within your router, that will be the most important thing. And I'm sure there must be some software that you can configure the cam with. There will also be the firmware the cam uses for internal control. Granted, I'm no camera guru by any means, so maybe you can post which cam you have, and what software your using, and what router you have, so we can see your cool fish tank, I have a fish tank as well, and a cam, maybe I could do the same.
  23. I sure would like to see a couple test results from testmy.net posted with that connection before you get rid of it man.......
  24. Man look at that upload, wow, what was your download before the registry tweaks ? I would dare to bet with that upload, you could get some screamin download speeds once the thing is set up correctly.
  25. Thats ok man, we all started out just like that. No worries. Your ISP is your Internet Service Provider ,of "Cox" which you have. When you sign with them, they may have several different packages that you can choose from for internet speed, you have a pretty damn good package, thats actually above the national average speed So if your curious, in which you are I see, then you can look on your bill, call them, or maybe sign into your account with them to see the allocated bandwidth they have you on. This way, while testing here , you know whether your getting what your paying for through them. Either way, there are many different things you can do to get the most out of your connection, thats the main thing were all here for , besides just having fun and shinning the light for others Are you familiar with something called "cablenut" ? With cablenut, you can change some of the registry values within windows, to fit your connection. What it does is set different values to meet your specific needs, therefore you can "optimize" your operating system
