  1. haha, never shoulda said that ...... :2funny:
  2. ok, thanks.
  3. $5000.00............? or 500.00? I found a couple for around 500, did'nt see any for 5K What software did you use for self recovery?
  4. I need a company that will recover lost data on a failed HDD. VERY important data, so the recovery company must be known and reputable. As well as lightning fast....who do you reccomend?
  5. Welcome jprizzo. I was wondering how long it would take this topic to make it's way here. There are several ways to check your internal B/W, but w/o the full network in, and no physical meter, ???? NEXT is just the beginning, you have to take in consideration powersum cross talk, and far end cross talk (PSNEXT & PSFEXT) There are 4 pairs to worry about in bidirectional networks. Your weakest areas will be the termination at the wall plate (due to physical harmonic imbalances between the cable/jack/and connector). Everything "echo's" back o the wall plate as a weak link. (not the crosstalk issue )controlling these echoes requires tuning or impedance-balanced network, carefully selecting each component. Enough rambling, I'm sure you already know this stuff. As for a software solution, I'm not aware of any, of course I am no expert on the subject by any means. I would recommend calling the ISP, and speaking to the tech who comes out until they are interested enough to investigate : )
  6. " Something " (There's one in every crowd, today , I'm it : ) Good luck w/ that Sir Roco ! Can't wait to see the fifth digit Tommie. We all know you've earned it lol After all, it must a might bit tiring seeing the second
  7. Where's my team-mates? pony up them points peeps!
  8. Hahahahahaa...... I love it! :2funny:
  9. Try changing the frequency of the wireless router, there may be interference from something else on the same channel nearby.
  10. It sounds as if you are re-installing an operating system on a new partition each time. That would account for the "smaller" size . If you want to do a complete format before installation, just place the OS disk in the tray, shut down, restart ( you may have to hit F12 or F2 key to boot from cd depending on your system. Usually though , autostart will take over w/ an OS. When you see where the screen says "delete existing partition" or partitions, do so , if you want to use the entire disk space. Pay close attention, read everything before hitting any keys. Let us know how your doing : )
  11. I should ask first if you know what package, or what bandwidth you are paying for. That would be more simple. Otherwise , you should be able to see where the ISP has you locked in at. They call it a " provisioned rate" or something like that . Who is your ISP?
  12. Wow,the latter would be my choice! You know what you need, and what you want, this one surely appears to be suffice. Let us know what you decide. Doesn't appear as if you can go wrong . http://www.bestbuy.ca/catalog/proddetail.asp?sku_id=0926INGFS10096059&catid=20354&logon=&langid=EN
  13. I think we have covered the topic here once before, that the advertizing companies tracking where you go, in the same manner as adsense and such. Look forward to many of these in the near future. And Tommie, jail? if they infiltrate our OS , then yes I agree! But who wants to see ads? not us, so they do this crap to get to us. If you begin to see subtle popups here and there, even embedded into webpages, this could be a symptom. DO NOT USE the norton stand alone removal tool! This is what caused the system "epilepsy".
  14. Thanks coknuck, we had to do a system repair from the OS installation disk. So far s, so good! Previous trial would not even allow for a boot from the cd, imagine that! The parasite is "Virtumonde" , an nasty trojan that infiltrates the entire system , including trackers, keylogger, re-installation scripts, on and on. It's still there, but I feel w/ a bit of tedious work can be removed. This sucker even changed the admin password. Someone has ownwed that machine for at least 12 hrs.
  15. A friend of mine had a virus and now cannot log into safemode or anything, never had a password now needs one ????????? hlp pleeezze it was awtss / or vundoo
  16. I'll stand corrected on the internet banking, I just assumed the security would be the slowest link, wich in turn would be your connection. I also assume that the general population is running anywhere a 2 gig box or so. yeah, you have many out there running more than that, but really. I also realize M$ has been stuck on making NT pretty for years, as wellas directed towards media. Don't worry, I'm not bashin you D , just M$. JUst had my fill, thats all.
  17. Do you know what rate provision your ISP has locked into your modem? 192.168.100.1 will take you to your modem stat page, or close to it.
  18. Not to bad at all
  19. Stop it ! :2funny: :2funny:
  20. Personally it's become necessity for me to stay attentive to the newest. Where I felt thing fell apart was when the mainstream gaming industry left the PC, and took a sharp left to gaming consoles. Games just aren't performing as well on a PC as they should. The code is there, but the hardware/ and such lags. Until there is a major breakthrough in internal throughput "bandwidth" / Bus speeds, we re stuck in limbo. As for my building a new box, well, thats ongoing, I refuse to allow the ramblings of "vista" to coax me into another ME cycle. NT is still the most stable secure structure that MS has introduced.Until MS acts on the fact that the UNIX system is the future, all they have is reintroduction of warmed over windows 2000. I state all this due to the fact if you are not gaming, compiling,or rendering, just posting your thoughts on testmy.net, or simple banking and such, a 1-2 GHz machine will be suffice. Or less if your patience is up. Realize that typing on forums is just glorified teletype anyone here remember those days? I still use it for certain forms of communication. Look at the storage space you have, then look at how slow your fastest computer today is running, puts things in perspective. We still have not found a way to produce light without heat, when we do that then and only then will we see real progress in technology.
  21. I thought I would update some of you on the electric bill, I just asked my wife what the avg. bill was, 140. - 180. monthly. Not bad at all considering all the other regular house hold goodies we have drawing juice.
  22. Just out of curiosity, what is the max U/L for a zip here? I suppose since coknuck asked, it is assumed to be higher than what he was tryin to U/L.
  23. One of the freat things about a linux distro is, they detect other partitions. If you were aware of them , and noted the size and whereabouts, you can decipher what the partition manager is stating. The Idea of a defrag is valid, yet many times if configured properly, the linux partition will move the files on it's own, maybe not where they go ,but out of the way none the less. If you have concern about losing files, simply use windows explorer to drag any and all files needed into a new burn folder for cd/dvd media. By selecting the expert install, this is telling the system installer that you know what you are doing, remember all those questions you knew nothing about? Or very little ? Just save your files, do not overwrite " C: " and you should pay attention to the partitions chosen. If you want to learn to set partitions yourself, thats great! do a bit of investigating. You don't have to be a computer scientist to learn about swaps ,risers, extended, roots, ect.., besides, it's fun!
  24. I think there trying to say there is no root partition. Did you set the partitions manually?
  25. Hey now, don't bust Ubuntu so quick, lol, before to long they may have the most advanced ( video tricks ) OS on the market. Although I do agree , boredom set in fairly soon after install. As for gnome, ok, I guess, but KDE is far more advanced, as well as useful , and integrated into the OS files.
