  1. Does it help to run two radiators ?
  2. Stays nice and cool I see as well.
  3. Geezus dood , yea i agree
  4. Good question. But as we all know , life sometimes gets in the way of some of the things we want to do.
  5. You have an issue for sure spudler. We need to find it so lets look at the clues. First lets start at the last comment of yours , how time expired while you were typing, with IPB ( which is the forum software testmy.net uses ) your post is saved in cache while you type, so if there is an issue as so many times in the past , your content is still there for you. What this tells us , along with that testmy.net shows your upload much higher then your download , is that you have a very real connectivity issue somewhere along the line , and the system lost connection with you while you were typing , before the first auto save of your draft. As far a the results you see on the flash based Ookla tests , it would not show this intermittent issue you have , because from what I understand , Ookla tests many small times , not in any way as testmy.net does. SSo with Ookla or the other flash based tests done in this fashion , would simply send another test instead of seeing the issue. Where as from what I understand , testmy.net will see this as latency, just as any other real world download / upload would. We should start looking at your internal network , if you could post what it looks like then we can get started.
  6. Not a great sign when the upload is higher then the download , since ISP's generally give up download but are tight as an eagles bum in a power dive on the upload. Will you post the ping results to testmy.net , and as well google.com ? I would also recommend running the timed test ( auto speed test ) at testmy.net. Use the 12 tests or less to give you a longer testing period. If you would also run the ping to each of the three testing servers if you don't mind.
  7. Great idea wenfinger , If you like , start a new thread in the help section asking for a new ISP section to be created , ca3le has a section dedicated to that in itself, so others of that 200K can quickly get in your discussion. I'm not sure of his requirements for a specific start of an ISP thread at this point , in the past I thought there was a place to request this, however I would dare to bet asking him in the ways to make testmy.net better thread , will surely get his attention. Or someone will point you in the right direction from there
  8. True that ! Many of us remember , or are still dealing with dial up. It was enough just to be online , in any way. As times went on , I remember people talking about getting higher speeds, then I wanted it myself , each time i was able to get an larger chunk of bandwidth , i was already accustomed to what I was able to use , and each time , I always want a little more. To sit and wait for a small file to FTP across the nation , makes me perform other actions instead of watching it upload , even if it's just a small 20 or 30 MB file, unheard of 20 years ago.
  9. I thought about it yes , then after more thought , I thought , nah , I'll lose my typing skills. What skills I have anyhow. But I'm no one to say whats good for someone else.
  10. Welcome to testmy.net fspilot , I'm sure you'll find useful tools and a friendly community here.
  11. This is irritating as a rash in a dark place. They make it sound as if they are helping people , when in essence all there doing is controlling and logging what your doing when you use there paid service. From the article , Ok , so now we have the ISP deciding what is legit and not ? One if not the largest ISP deciding where your allowed to visit ? Frackin sad as hell ! And I agree w/ TriRan , if it's an ISP owned device , they can do as they please with it. I would chuck it and grab myself something I know they don't simply have complete access to. That wont stop the DNS hijacking there doing though.
  12. Hey EBrown , you might be interested in this download, I know you were looking before , still ?
  13. I like this idea, spudler_t , check and see if there is an available file at DD-WRT , which will have many more options for you to begin setting your wireless router up the way you want and need. Or just post your wireless router model and version and we'll also investigate it with you. ( unless I have the blind eye and you already posted it )
  14. Do I dare dip my toe in on this one lol Speedtest.net is honestly comparable to almost every ISP internal network test by Ookla, unreliable in so many ways. Yes i know when you say feel, as much as one man can feel another man's thoughts ,........... wait , not...no , I didnt mean..... well anyhow I would bet this is some type of quota on the ISP side, as more people are signing up for higher bandwidth connections , the infrastructure is still lacking the overall width , let alone proper engineering to allocate blocks per IP instantaneously. Gauging what available bandwidth is available on the other side of the ISP , to what is required from the " customer side " , and between mac addresses and what there allocated is an art that can only be conducted by edge hardware and experienced and bleeding edge learning. Thats what I feel is becoming a larger issue then ever before concerning internet traffic.
  15. This issue is ongoing. Anything i try to install that required openssl , yum tries to install the dependency openssl i686 0.9.8e-20.el5_7.1 Iv'e excluded anything other than the system arch by adding exactarch in yum.conf , which should over ride anything in any repo that might be calling for x86 arch packages. Currently , the x86 or i686 or anything of the likes , other than x86_64 openssl packages are installed. Yes Iv'e cleared the yum cache. my next move is to set priorities within the repos. Which i should have done before since I'm using atomic rocket turtle.
  16. I don't like the fact comcast is forcing DNS on there customers, in any way. That to me is considered a serious offense, in many ways. Now I'm not with comcast, none the less it erks me to know there doing that, seriously , any type of DNS management by the ISP should very well be a criminal offense. The matter of choice is not in play, as important as DNS is for security and resource availability, in other words , with this type of management , the ISP can literally exclude even google search results, and or simply block out , blacklist whatever , any address they might deem as not conforming to there rules, morals, or external instructions. By doing that, they can re direct any connection to any address they please. Major security risk. To say the least of what can be done by this type of DNS management . Does sound as if comcast is setup a limit on normal browsing, albeit a low one at that for such a large bootfile you have ( is the bootfile still used ? ). I can see this on a 5 Mb /1 Mb ( or whatever the average connection is for comcast customers ) , might allocate available bandwidth to those on the node until any IP needs opened up briefly. Sounds experimental to me.
  17. Now on #TMN free beer + free boobs........ that should about do it.
  18. Welcome to testmy.net jayartibee, you can start out by reading this , which is a legitimacy statement from the site owner. I'm sure he'd come in and have something to say to help you understand a bit more., In the mean time , have you tested from the three available test sites that testmy.net offers ? As at times of heavy network traffic in different parts of the US, you can and will see slow downs. The selection of servers can be found in testing area of the download and upload sections.
  19. Understand , and actually I looked it up and someone is borking a few arch definitions up somewhere so no matter if you specify an architecture or not , your still going to get , or were going to get a different package then you wanted. , people whining about it all over. On top of that , there is /was an issue with an update of openssl.
  20. I assumed so, but then why would someone continue to label packages for the wrong arch in the repo !!!!! It's ridiculous , because by the time they trickle down to the rest of the servers , things are a mess. I'll comment them out in the local centos repo so i don't keep getting them. EDIT , meant yum.conf and adding " exactarch=1 "
  21. openssl-0.9.8e-20.el5_7.1.i686 conflicts with file from package openssl-0.9.8e-20.el5_7.1.x86_64 This is causing me a load of time. This might sound like a crazy question , who knows if an x86_64 machine running VPS needs any i686 packages ? If not I'll make sure by editing the repo that I get none of them , and solve this silly issue. I wish they would stop whoever is doing this, this is the second time Iv'e has i686 packages on this machine that have caused me trouble.
  22. isn't "frankenstiening " part of developing and progressing, and from what I understand , what Community Enterprise Operating System is all about ? It's been given to the people in general , Vs. a corporation to keep hold of. A guy can say almost anything anymore and someone would be forced to simply ponder it , due to the nature or progression in the IT business. I'm not doubting when you say you had to merge a few packages , or take from one and give to another, or whatever, but I'de like to know what redhat has other then support Vs centos ? Just so I'm more aware. Red Hat is an interesting company. Some people think centos was stolen from redhat by de branding and tossing on the net. I don't remember it that way. It might be more like , the centos project was developed by redhat to support the free software foundation. Do you know that redhat is the top contributor to cnet ? In other words , everything that is payed for by those that pay for the branding , or " support " bug fixes in enterprise level companies, that really need these things worked out, goes to giving the community the patches. Really , an amazing company.
  23. centOS is running on roughly 30% of all linux operating systems, if you cannot find enough support for it, then yea I understand needing to pay for red hat. Been having loads of fun with sabayon. They claim to be on the "bleeding" edge of whats new, using kernel version 3 and up. Super fast , and is loaded with new things to learn ( for me anyhow ) as I say , never really got into running any gentoo systems installed text only. I like the challenge of being forced to look everything up before doing it.
  24. Five years ago , life , let alone thoughts on our lives a individuals , may have been so much different then the perception any of us might have on this day.
  25. VPS The host is on it, seems something shat itself but they can't tell me yet. I don't mind getting all these emails telling me how there sites are down :/ I ALREADY KNOW IT hahah
