Back sometime in the 70's, they were selling cans of dehydrated water as a joke. it said "Just Add Water" on the can.

I have a neighbor down the street that had one of those modems, his was round like a disk if I remember correctly. He ended up getting a westell modem with ethernet and we had to install a NIC on his PC for him. As far as I know he still has the westell and working good. His looked like this.

It's doing the exact same thing here, but everything seems to be working ok, and it's only when you first go to the testmy home page.

Well it's a long shot , but I did find some supplement files for your laptop for winXP. Also I found a web site with some generic drivers for your card and it said may or may not work with XP.......lol. It said that it was important to uninstall old drivers first if you can. Hope something here works...good luck, let us know..

Hey Pitbull.... The only other thing I can suggest is that you clear the bios and or reset the defaults, or if there is a updated bios at gateway, get it and flash it, and make sure all cables are attached to MB securely. Good luck bro...

I suggested to run a chkdsk /r last night in his other post https://testmy.net/topic-7074.msg68166;topicseen#msg68166 but I don't know if he tried it or it didn't work or not........I hate to see anyone resort to compusa, but you gotta do what ya gotta do...

I can't really say too much because I have a 17Year old Mitsubishi analog that works as good as new. I have been trying to keep track of the newer TV's though and my thought is to go through the process of elimination. 1- Porjection TV's seem to grainy for me, so no to that. 2- Analog TV's are just plain outdated. 3- Plasma's are nice, but too damn pricey, at least for me. 4-So that leaves LCD , nice picture quality, not as pricey as plasma. Then you just have to consider, Brand name, Widescreen, HDTV,Price,Bells and whistles. Good luck...I'm glad I don't have to decide right now.

I know you said don't paste websites , but I have a link to one that shows what services are safe to disable or set to manual, and that can decrease the number of thing that start when windows starts---------------> http://www.theeldergeek.com/services_guide.htm#Services Also I have a program called regcleaner and it lists programs that are set to start when windows starts and you can turn them off with regcleaner, it can be done other ways but this just makes it real easy, and it backs up whatever you do so you can put it back if you want, let me know if you want to try that and I will post it here....... To me there's nothing like a clean install of windows though, it just needs it evey once and a while. Good luck....

Try booting to the WinXP CD and this time choose R and go in to recovery console, choose what setup you want enter and it will ask for admin. password, if you never put a password just leave blank and hit enter. At the prompt TYPE: chkdsk /r and then enter, it may take a while but it may fix any problems you may have on the disk. When it's done just TYPE: exit and it will reboot and then try to partition and format again.......Hope that works man.

Yeah, but I believe pitbull wanted a clean install, and from what he was saying it wasn't formatting right. It's been a while since I installed win over win. If you choose to setup on existing partition doesn't it restart and then starts setup again ? I'm gonna have to pull out my guinea pig PC today and mess around loading XP on it different ways. for about the last 2 years I have only clean installed. Guess I need the practice.

You know swimmer you are right........I had to sit here and think for a minute, you do have to delete that partiton first and then format.....I was thinking you could just go to the next screen and format it, but NOT ! No wonder I usually delete the patition first....lol Oh well at least I told Pitbull the right way.

Hope that helps....there are a lot of tweaks you can do to XP to make it run better, but for now I would suggest maybe running a defrag, that can help a lot if it's never had one before..........Have a good one.
