  1. tdawnaz;First on the power breath mine was learned from Karate & yoga so would naturally have greater control. They kind of work hand in hand. This control extends to other things without the practicer even being aware of this.Ergo more will power to do exercise & diet.I put that it could be done through the mouth realizing all beginners do not have the ability to do it through the nose.My air volume would be close to the same through either but I have done this for many years.Although I don't find it necessary & probably can't do it now because I haven't practiced it for a long while.I even learned to do alternate nostril breathing.Since a lot will not be familiar with this it is where you inhale through one nostril & exhale through the other. At first you use your fingers to learn the technique but then you can do it without you fingers. btw your would work for the beginner & might put more oxygen in the blood. I have read the Atkins books & believe he was on the right path. The AMA was always after him even taking him to the Supreme Court .They never managed to take his medical license. As for it going onto bankruptcy .I think that's a result of his heirs not managing the business correctly .As well as trying to sell to many goods instead of just the diet books. I don't have time to look up the AMA articles but I don't think they have proof of their claims. If you go with the AMA then how many million kids should be on Ritalin & don't forget they approved Thalidomide(that might be misspelled). Even if the came up with people that had done the Atkins & went off of it or cheated from the start. That had developed type 2 diabetes. The majority of these would have been overweight already so prime candidates for type 2 diabetes anyway.See if you can find me any that stick to the Atkins diet that developed type 2 diabetes.Type 1 diabetes being almost always genetic. I know some about diabetes having both kinds in my family.I don't have it though. I don't even recommend Atkins for a permanent diet.In my case I got up to 205 lbs & decided that was too heavy so I used Atkins till I was 180.Now I range from 185 to 195 eating basically healthy with some simple carbs as well.If I ever let it get into the too heavy range again I will use Atkins without a doubt. I had a few advantages when I was doing the Atkins being familiar with diabetes.I got the Ketostix as recommended by Atkins to monitor ketones which indicate your fat burning level.I also had access to a blood glucose monitor. My normal blood sugar is around 95 to 100 on Atkins it is around 70 to 75.So a definite drop when on this diet for me anyway. It does allow a lot more carbs in the final or long term level .In this level you monitor the ketone level & try to stay in the barely fat burning level. That would be a very light purple on the Ketostix. Like I said if a person wants to do the least cut out the simple carbs & do an exercise they can & will do even if thats slow walking increasing distances. I understand the time to feel satiated is 24 minutes.
  2. tommie;I doubted you would go the tobacco eating route. That is for those that can't quit & it's like anything else if you get really sick from something you tend to avoid it. tdawnaz ;I think he said 18 for his age.We disagree on the Atkins diet .I don't think you can prove that it would cause diabetes. For one thing it actually stops insulin spikes that carbs cause especially simple carbs. This stops the pancrease from over producing insulin & after a time cures its oversensitivity caused by the simple carbs.Actually giving it a rest while on the Atkins diet.Would I recommend it for the rest of your life diet .Not for most people .It is a tool to get the weight down.Where some people got into trouble was they trie to use the liquid protein drinks with it. The Suzanne Summers diet is a lot like Atkins but watches the glycogen index of foods especially carbs & doesn't combine carbs with proteins & most fat at the same meal. Probably the hardest thing to do is the simplest & the best ..That is stop eating the simple carbs. This is not as hard as you think to know what they are .If it's a white carb don't eat it & don't be fooled because someone dyes it.For example white flour. For breathing exercises: The power breath should be done this way: In a comfortable position sitting or standing.Holding you chest muscles tight enough so the air is drawn in deep by your abdomen. 1.Inhale approximately a third of a lung full of air through your nose.Expand your abdomen outward as far as you can when doing this. This should take 1/2 to 1 second 2.For the exhale:With a sudden vigorous movement pull your abdomen in as fast as you can& expel the air through your nose.It should be like someone punched you in the abdomen. This should take 1/2 to 1 second If you can only do this through you mouth at first then do it that way. You should work up to about 10 reps but 3 to 5 are good to start. For the deep or complete breath: Sit or stand in a comfortable position. The start of this you keep you chest muscles lightly tight so the breath will be drawn into the abdomen.Draw the air in expanding the abdomen as far as possible this should take 5 seconds but probably 3 to start with. Once you have done the abdominal part & still inhaling in a continuous motion , pull your abdomen slowly in tightening it while expanding your chest .This should take 5 seconds probably 3 at first. Then hold the breath for 5 seconds. Then exhale slowly & controlled the exhale should take 10 seconds but will be faster at first. The repeat about 3 reps of this one is plenty at first. The above is 1 rep. Then cycle again to the power breath. Doing these & nothing else is a starting workout for some people.
  3. tommie;I've overhauled & test drove a Cadillac 500 but it wasn't my car.I don't think it was a 400HP though.My 455 Buick was only 195HP if I remember correctly.But 195HP in a 455 feels different than 195HP in a 302. The Cadillac 500 I'm sure would be the biggest American production car engine.
  4. tommie gorman ;Congrats on the quiting smoking. The ones I know who have quit & stayed that way all went cold turkey.maybe it's the determination from doing that that keeps them from starting again. If you do decide to have just one cigarette.Chase it down by eating about 3 pouches of chewing tobacco.Try to keep from puking as long as you can then see if you want another cigarette for a while.
  5. justinlay ;I bet you mean North East Texas.I live in North West Texas probably a 150 miles North of Dallas& a good 150 west.& even I can go about another 90 miles North before I cross the real north border of Texas.I'm just giving you a hard time because us Panhandle dwellers consider where we live North Texas. Roco ;The biggest car engine I have had in a car I owned was a 455 cid in a 1975 Buick Electra .It would get around 18 mpg highway but in town about 11 mpg.Still a wonderful heavy luxury car.
  6. dn0 ;I have had the problem the last 5 or 6 builds. It does the regular daily VDB update fine. I looked around the AVG site & forum enough I think I found what the problem is.I just will have to wait for the next build to test it.The AVG mod thought it was what he called my extreme file cleaning methoe.I have only been doing that the last 2 builds so I don't think it is the problem. What I found was that the problem should be with my _RESTORE folder. This is part of the "System Restore" in Windows ME.I disabled "System Restore" & will leave it that way.But I noticed some files were still being put in the _RESTORE folder so I deleted it but it would return on reboot. So I created a file with the same name since this wasn't a path no more files were put in it & it stayed zero bytes. The folder didn't recreate since there was a file with the same name.I think that AVG may use the _RESTORE folder on the build update & if it's not there it corrupts it.So I will see if I'm correct about this next build. Also for those with a similar problem that have XP .Someone posted that they found the problem for them was in anonymous logon. ghostmaster;I started with 9X & I like some things DOS will do.Since ME is the last 9X I use it.Also I think it works better on my older computer. When I get a newer computer I will probably go with XP.One reason is drivers for ME can be harder to find.
  7. Ryan314 ;First thanks for taking the time to read the thread or threads in the links. I think I irritated this mod because I didn't let the other mod that posts this below in most threads A chance to do it .Since I read some other threads at the AVG site to see if I could find a solution before posting. Then I read the sticky & gave them the information they wanted before they could help. "You didn't provide us with all the information that we need to help you. Read PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING - AVG Forum How to Ask for Help, provide all of the information mentioned in that post so that we may help you properly. Thank you." Next I told him the solution he suggested didn't help.I had seen it in other threads where it didn't help either.Thats what got him started I think. I guess what really got to me was when I tried to ask the people that started the other 2 threads in the links I posted if their problem was simular to mine.He removed those posts.Siting this as the reason: "but we do keep the threads as clean as we can from extra stuff that isn't directly linked yet... it just makes it much easier for the user that we are trying to help if they don't get possibly unrelated info posted in their thread. So we leave stuff that is directly related to helping.. but remove others that aren't or aren't proven related." Or we don't want you to prove others are having the same problem so we are not going to let you contact them to compare problems. Then we can post this: "No one else is reporting a re-occuring issue with updates like you are... this means it IS something unique with your system that is causing the corruption."
  8. wyantm06;I'm going to weigh in on this so to speak.Lets start with there are no magic pills. Life style change is basically what every program you use will suggest. I'm going to start with recomending you try one of these two diets. One is the Atkins diet get the old original Diet Revolution book. The other would be & don't laugh ! Suzanne Summers diet book.I think she has a couple out.Hers is actually a modified Atkins .The real Atkins will make you lose weight faster. On Atkins you don't have to count calories but if you cheat it will not work. On calories at your size at least 1800 a day & 2200 might be better till you lose some weight if you use a calorie counting diet instead. The reason is if you don't maintain a certain level your metabolism will slow down.Basically the bigger you are the more you need to prevent a slow down.To a point any way. Now for exercise at your weight I wouldn't run or jog.My personal opinion is this is harmful to anyones knees .So unless your a professional athlete that gets paid to run don't.Walk fast, ride a bicycle even a stationary one, or swim. For weight training don't start or even go heavy weights .Lighter weights with lots of reps. This gives you some of the bone strengthening & muscle building effects as well as cardiovascular exercise. Also get a Yoga book but only do the simplest exercises at first as you limber try the harder ones.As this limbers you up you will find you do better at other exercise. btw I'm 6 feet also & at 53 I keep my weight between 185 & 195.So you figure out whether I know what I'm talking about. Let me state this again don't use the Atkins diet if you are going to cheat on it.It is actually dangerous to cheat on it because too many carbs stop the fat burning effect & you return to the carb burning effect so the increased fat with the carbs can clog you arteries & increase your cholesterol. You will understand this better when you read the book.
  9. Hi all,This is going to be a bit of a rant about the AVG Forum. This is a reason people dislike other forums & love testmy.Me included. However since I was & really will again have a problem with the AVG update.I decided to see if their forum could help.If you read the links in my post espesially the thread I started I sure the AVG mods conclusion that it is my cleaning method is wrong. This is the link to my thread there: http://forum.grisoft.cz/freeforum/read.php?1,77501,backpage=,sv= I registered as thorny1.Below is one of the mod rdsok's replies to me. "No one else is reporting a re-occuring issue with updates like you are... this means it IS something unique with your system that is causing the corruption." So after his conclusion it was probably my cleaning method.I posted in 2 other threads there that I thought were simular to my update problem.Only once in each asking them to read my post & let me know if they thout their update problem was approxamatly the same.btw thw forum doesn't have PM so this was the only way I had. rdsok removed the post from each thread with this post to me. "Please quit posting in every thread that has update issues... as we've already told you there can be many possible reasons that a user has this issue and just because it appears similar to yours doesn't mean the cause is the same... this is why we keep the threads seperated instead of trying to use one thread for a common issue... the causes are normally different for each." No wonder he says "No one else is reporting a re-occuring issue with updates like you are" because if anyone tries to compare issues this mod removes the post. Here are links to the threads I thought had approxamately the same update problem. http://forum.grisoft.cz/freeforum/read.php?1,77480,backpage=2,sv= http://forum.grisoft.cz/freeforum/read.php?1,78378,backpage=3,sv= So what do y'all think? I would change AV but I like AVG & this is my main problem with it.I tried Avast & it seemed to slow my OS down.I have tried several online scans at various sites including Kaspersky & none of these found a virus so this means that AVG is doing a good job as far as I'm concerned if I could just get the update to work better.
  10. CA3LE ;Take the rest of your vacation .You've worked more than enough for a man on vacation.Unless you are worried the hackers will shut the site down again we can live with any small problems. If you can even take some additional days to make up for the work you've had to do.& next time take a cheap crappy cell phone.
  11. wyantm06;If you can go to a scrap metal yard I bet the electro magnet crane operator would run the electro magnet over it.That might sound like a joke but I'm serious.
  12. I abused my engines more back then it just didn't hold up to that. One of my favorite Ford engines is the 300cid strait 6 cyl.The FI one really runs well.I was impress with the way the held up in a small city bus fleet when I worked for the city on their busses. The busses were carbed also.
  13. tommie ;The only power line I was ever involved with getting replaced was at my grandparents house several years ago.The power company just looked at it & said OK no charge. For the not cutting .A good rope hooked to the back of a vehicle & the line should do the trick.I would just wait till we had one of the days we get a 60 or 70 mph strait wind. Then claim the wind did it.
  14. tommie ;Mine is carburated & has low milage.I have been satisfied with the 351.Probably the worst Ford engine I ever had was in my 1973 F150 it was a 360 cid.Don't let anyone tell you this is just a small 390 .
  15. wyantm06 ;Have you went into you computers BIOS & made sure the your HD is listed & enabled? Then is it in a list like primary boot? You shouldn't even need a HD to check BIOS because I beleive this is all on your CMOS chip. Also hows your battery? Last where did you buy the HD? or do you have a receipt? you can probably check warranty information online if you can prove when you purchased it you may still be able to get it warrantied. btw my HD is a 1999 so they can last a long time.
  16. The topic page showed this: Page created in 0.138 seconds with 23 queries. The post page showed this: Page created in 0.147 seconds with 15 queries. But all the smilies & other buttons loaded after the results & were slow like they have been since testmy being down.I'm just giving things some time to see if it will get better. As you know I have dial-up & I'm also using IE6.
  17. tommie ;A lot of dial-up is limited on the amount of hours time they allow per month .This is even ones that advertise unlimited .You have to check the TOS for the ISP.You probably really didn't need the info I just thought I would through it in. Roco;Probably not much you can do about line quality outside you house.Inside I bet you already have installed the best you could.Where I live we have an in the air drop from the pole the phone company will not replace this unless its damaged. It will almost always meet minimum requirements. So if I ever think mine needs replacing its going to snap in a wind storm .We do have high wind here some of the time.
  18. Me & dlewis23 both live in Texas & I paid $2.14 a gallon last I bought.tommie's gas probably was refined in Texas so strange how KC MO pays less than us.I have seen this on many occasions where out of state gas is cheaper. My pickup which I only use when I need a pickup is a 1981 Ford Lariat Supercab with a 351 cid engine .It gets around 16mpg highway.
  19. bryanlautt ;It depends on your connection type & we do have some topics at testmy you could search for more information. In general : 1500 for Cable 1492 for dsl 1500 or 576 for dial-up Ask your ISP what they use for your type connection.
  20. Ryan314;Think of how small the fan motor & its bushings & electrical windings are.An air spin is like putting several hours use all at once.If you like to watch one spin with compressed air get an old no good one & spin it till it flys apart.Or better yet go down to the hobbie shop get a model airplane propeller rig you a shaft & some bearings attach the propeller & spin the heck out of it.Or make you a whirley-gig & let the wind do it.
  21. CA3LE ;No hurry on this .I just wanted to ask if this type of attachment was wiped out. They are some testmy ones php did for me.I can use an image site like photobucket to host them. I just thought I would ask about them since they are not working. http://www.testmy.net/forum/index.php?action=dlattach;topic=14096.0;attach=12619 http://www.testmy.net/forum/index.php?action=dlattach;topic=14096.0;attach=12620 I left the img off of course.
  22. Glad TMN is up & running .Good job Damon
  23. dn0 ;I use My Vital Agent.I can't say how it would work for you .It's freeware so give it a try if you want. http://www.myvitalagent.net/
  24. I found out a power strip I use for my main TV is causing some picture interference.I tried another one & it has the same effect. If I unplug the strip & plug the TV in direct I don't get the interference(But I also don't have enough outlets for the DVD,VCR's.Satellite reciever etc.)I ran across the article in the link below & thought I would post it for opinions. The article was about the ground loop effect on an electron microscope. http://www.biotech.ufl.edu/EM/data/fields.html One reason I thought this might effect computer performance & you might not even realize it was happening. So what kind of power strip do you use for your PC or TV?
  25. I only had the popups yesterday morning. After I used my erase program on my cookies & TIF I didn't have any more problems.I didn't use the quote yesterday though. All seems normal now.Foe me anyway.
