  1. sounds like the light and the matrix are ok, just that it's not getting a signal... not even from the internal image generator for the menu... why not email gateway to see what they say?
  2. and as mainland europeans we say (lit.) island monkeys. meant in an offensive and derogatory way. but i do respect anglos of any nation. they saved our bacon back in the big one. without them i'd be goosestepping...
  3. really, was that one of those old-style ones with the hot coals inside?
  4. nice. but don't run the drives upside down too much. some drives don't like that. same goes for vertical mounting. some drives prefer standing on their left to standing on their right or vice versa, i forget.
  5. exactly. the main reason there is a higher percentage of maiming instead of lethal wounds is the improving front line medical situation. look at the simple wounds people in the civil war died of.
  6. penance hell, it's a badge of honor! well done!
  7. mission accomplished. thread is off the beaten path.
  8. well, the dsl to the dslam is. but from there speeds can be a backbone issue.
  9. hm. don't ask questions? sounds like he's planning to slow down someone elses comp...
  10. sounds like the core duo is a sweet piece of kit. (if those numbers are true) the benchmarks on the apple site comparing the new core duo equiped boxes with the old powerpc ones look pretty slick too. btw, that 20" iMac is awesome. i wants one. (but with options it's on the far side of 2k.bucks. ouch.)
  11. they prolly have you capped at 3000000 bps. thats why you are getting the score you're getting. right on target i'd say.
  12. sounds like a ram stick is getting unstuck. might be as bad as a stick going bad or as simple as a stick becoming unseated. open box, remove all ram sticks, reinstall. and watch out for esd...
  13. google for it. there should be plenty of share/freeware ones out there.
  14. if you know someone with a threadcutter one good way to build stuff like that is to use metal pipes cut to length, threaded, and then assembled with the necessary fixtures from the plumbing department. (and you can then use the whole rack as a radiator for water cooling if you seal it all up).
  15. welcome. looks good. don't tweak it, you might just ruin it.
  16. looking at the knowledge level of your average joe, i think not too many would take note. however the trouble you could get into would be enormous. enormous on the order of 375 lbs. goes by the name of big bubba. and you'd be his girlfriend for the next 10 to 15.
  17. i believe this is why. then again, theoretically, all board additions are possible. it is up to the owner to select those that suit his purpose. practically the adding of all possible boards would be impossible due to hardware constraints. a more prudent course of action would be to add the new board only when a post is made in general discussion that requires moving to that particular board. hence only if a member posts about the feeding of chinchillas would the board on chinchilla farming be created. even with the current growing number of members this should prevent an all too large databse of boards.
  18. being an ex steam engineer i thought would make you hate the term derailed. good thing i never rode on one of your trains then...
  19. so how about just setting up a link to e-bay or a site with free want ads?
  20. i for one don't mind a derailed thread. and if the thread doesn't turn on its side when it gets derailed i hit the throttle and take it away from the tracks and even off the beaten path if possible.
  21. it can give traffic back to the site. and ca3le can always charge a fee. but seriously, a want ads section might not be a bad idea.
  22. how about an opt-in for flashy ads? i wouldn't mind ignoring some banner ads for the good of the site.
  23. do you mean want ads style or auction?
  24. for cleaning the outside of the case and keyboard etc. i find the kirkland baby wipes from costco are perfect. other brands probably do fine too. just use a non-lotion type to avoid a mess. (after seeing the kind of dirt and stuff those things will clean off anything i'm almost afraid to use em as intended ). DO NOT CLEAN THE SCREEN WITH THEM OR ANY OTHER SOLVENT LIKE WINDEX ETC. !!!!!!!!!! usually there will be an anti-glare coating on the screen that gets totally ruined and streaky if attacked with a solvent. soft cloth and a little water at most.
  25. don't know about kosher, but don't you dare go and suggest organic whole grain pancakes.
