The only way I could see folks getting upset is if the points really were worth something. Which I assume their not. So not sure what all the fuss is. More of a toy I'd guess. There are some people like my own grandad who would drink like a fish all weekend, but never came to work drunk. He had his priorities straight. Its idiots that do it the other way. And yes he was an alcoholic in the first degree. He'd pack 3 cases of Hamms just for a weekender. And as a forman he'd fire your ass for being drunk at work too.
