to view ur current boot.ini file, go to: control panel -> system -> advanced -> startup and recovery settings -> and then press Edit button This will open notepad with your current boot.ini file in it.. Just copy+paste what it says in this forum and we can better tell you if its something from it

In XP you go to Folder Properties (Right click -> Properties on folder), then the Customize tab and select the type of folder you would like it to be.. Should be something at least similar in Vista

and those small files are in all categories (e.g.: music, videos).. you could find them on almost any search (usually .rars)
