  1. Now you are telling me ? "Ocean bottleneck... two words that rarely meet." been seeing that for 7 years, Amsterdam ( Netherlands ) still involves a sea crossing for me from the UK m,ybe the sharks are chewing on the fibre ?
  2. Blessings Ca3le , Amsterdam ? about 230 miles straight line ,but it does involve the English Channel hop , Test result close on right for me , BTW "Our most popular visiting European countries are... United Kingdom," I still spread the word ,
  3. so how many post does Biggles need to post a pic ? or do we have a problem Huston, or do,I have a problem , ,
  4. ::.. Download Test Results ..::: Download Connection is:: 4795 Kbps about 4.8 Mbps (tested with 6 MB) Download Speed is:: 599 kB/s Tested From:: https://testmy.net/ (Dallas, TX USA) Validation Link:: https://testmy.net/db/CwF56DM Test Time:: 2011-07-31 18:45:07 Local Time 1MB Download in 1.71 Seconds - 1GB Download in ~29 Minutes - 84X faster than 56K Tested from a 6 MB file and took 10.497 seconds to complete Running at 236% of hosts average (as9105.com) ---------------- Thanks TMN for the 236% of my host average, I learnt a lot over the years on this forum . being in the UK on a long old copper line ( 50 years old + and too many hops ) , I sync at 6,720 kbps,. I am staying a member ( can you escape ? ) lol I ain't posting for a time , but my thoughts are still with you guys, my router stats UK Link Information Modulation: G.992.1 Annex A Bandwidth (Up/Down) [kbps/kbps]: 832 / 6,720 Data Transferred (Sent/Received) [KB/MB]:290.00 / 7.44 Output Power (Up/Down) [dBm]: 12.5 / 19.5 Line Attenuation (Up/Down) [dB]: 25.0 / 44.5 SN Margin (Up/Down) [dB]: 13.0 / 7.5 ---------- the ADSL SNR is the killer, soon as it gets dark (sunset) I will have to reboot the modem/router, and take a speed hit, a snr of 7.5db is scrapping the barrel on a long daylight line UK , once the dark hours set in I need a SNR of around 9db to cure the constant buffering on you tube , BTW, notice my 45.5 line attenuation that's about 2.5 miles from my telco as the crow flies , an limits me to about 2Mbps indeed we Hav vays of improving things ,
  5. going a bit off topic, just read a report that Apple is richer than the American Gov , not surprised , with the price apple is charging in the UK, my involvement with with pc's goes back 15 + years , never worked on or met a apple machine , but a few folk I know that use them at work say they are great , I guess as a m/s user I am living in a shadow , but I figure what I never had I don't miss ,
  6. I didn't vote , being in the UK , as it would effect the results , but I snych at 6.2 Mbps (adsl ) with overheads it gives me 5.4 Mbps down and 500 Kbps up , (8 years back I was on 50 Kpbps dial up) later this year I got FTTC arriving with 30 Mbps , but the cost per month will double , I may opt out and stay as I am , as the cost for my unlimited is $10 USD a month, and I ain't that much in a hurry to get anywhere ,
  7. wellcome from wellcome from Roco UK , I ain't English also although I suffer thier crap broadband , "Fáilte" indeed or in my native tounge "Séyiz les beinv'nu" , and no I dont speak it , I had to google it much to my shame ,
  8. a UK member getting 50 mbps, dang you must be Wain Rooney or R . Branson it sure beats the ass out of the UK average of 4 Mbps on copper ,but sigh , fibre isn't an option for everybody the UK , or affordable , both counts for me, .
  9. Wha ,Cananda 70% ice , my Frenchain't that good , I had trouble ordering a burger and fries in Paris , I had to revert to mime , the beef was easy , the fries took some beliving , and try mimeing a bap , I got a french hooker by mistake , My original province 80 sq miles when the tide is out , Pop,40 K out oif the tourist season , near on a million sardines in a tin in summer yeah I would go back , the only stopper is the today $5 million bond rquierd , 7years out of the state , and it's start again time , nd no , aparently that ain't against my human rights , as the island is ruled by the Feudal system , not part of NATO/E.U/ Common market /Britain/ or covered by the Geneva agrement , strangly enough it's very prosperous and doing OK , Btw it dosn't have a standing army , Hmm, maybe a leason to be learnt there ? , just smile at eveyone with a bulging wallet , or maybe not , for me home is where you make it , indeed nowhere is perfect , ( talking of Mime , being a travelling guy )
  10. WOW , just look at the space ? , ( it's a bit in short supply in the UK ), The orange guy is ..is ....is , dang I have forgotten , we have them also but seen over here as a bit exotic , (same latitude as Ontario ) I specialise in dandelions and bind weed , my garden is laid out and maintained by a band of female helpers , I supervise from my deck chair , I guess I was born and bred a Spanner man , but I do appreciate a tidy garden ,and the same for a workshop , Mudmanc , you are moving ? , Raining ? sounds like moving to the UK , but the last 14 days we have had clear blue, and 22 C ( 68 F ) another UK record busted , April Showers ,bring forth May flowers , BTW ,band of Female helpers ? , no I ain't a Macho pig , I sort their Computers and cars for free , they love doing gardens , indeed barter is the way to go during these hard times , Mudmanc you moving far ? , "Far" in the UK is 100 miles , after that you fall over the edge , I still can't get my head around a country 3000 miles wide , maybe being born an Islander ( 8X10 ) don't help
  11. good to see you around on the forum, and thanks for the link ,Adobe for me is bloated , and slow kicking in , much faster options availible indeed ,
  12. Thanks , indeed for a crowded London I find it a pleasant oasis , and indeed the English have a thing about gardens , although my main interest is in the garage/workshop visible at the end of the garden, a few shots of the garden through the seasons we had a bad winter this year ,I lost a few shrubs , but my Californian Rock roses survived , and so did my Japanese black bamboo, The Mexican Yucca didn't , Jeez, I am turning into a gardening nerd ,quick pass me a Southern Comfort , and lets talk Bikes , or my mind will match my body
  13. Aaaw honey, I am so sorry , I couldn’t make it ( the wife hid my passport ) but, indeed it's good to have friends across the pond,
  14. hey honey , I did ask you to marry me back in 2007 , but I fear I am now past my sell by date , but the offer is still open ,
  15. Speeeeeed ? , well that makes the UK ADSL in pole position without a doubt, 2001 I got 125 Kbps , 2011 I get 5 Mbps, 2Mbps more than I should , ( thanks TMN forum , I read and learn ) Yeah, crap speed ,but thanks to TMN forum I know why , and can do some work around's , as a international forum I am sure many see less ? , I question whether making those slow speeds #1, would improve/embarrass the Isp's into investing ? put me down as a don't know .
  16. Hi from Roco , a member for a few years now Just a Warning to all the young dudes , how 25 years on , and Cigarettes whisky and wild wild women , can drive you crazy and drive you insane , the before and after pics (Btw, never regreted a moment of my life ) BTW , not only with each passing day I look more like my dad , I dance the same way
  17. Try foxit reader lite , fore sure I am done with Adobe in all it's incarnations , apart from the freebie photo deluxe , still using it 10 years on
  18. very true , Xp suits me fine, it does all I need , it's light and fast on a this years box , Oh, and I am a skinflint , short arms deep pockets etc Xp is like an old friend ,I know all it's wrinkles , I guess a bit like my 36 year old car , my 75 year old house , my my G/f who is ..... ......and still younger than me , indeed, if it ain't broke etc.
  19. nothing to add , but Adobe pi**is me of any way , ( so bloated , and sun java ain't that far behind , just to many phone home's going on ) next up is Google updater, IMHO these programs are so "last year" , BTW, I tried running "mint" , now back on XP pro, I think that will see me out unless win 11 changes my mind
  20. Aparently Sky dosn't throttle , as you say you get presumably 4Mbps on speed tests , but much less on downloading ( P2P ? ) , which isn't unsual , and on Adsl slow speeds during the hours of darkness is also normal , I would sugest rebooting your Modem/router at that time, I guess you are on the up to 8Mbps package and about 2 miles from your exchange , but I think you already have the answer http://www.skyuser.co.uk/forum/sky-broadband-exchange-information/39612-21cn-pstn-wbc-exchange-upgrade-31-3-11-a.html but if you require further help , maybe you could post your router stats , it would give a much clearer picture of whats going on ,
  21. Hi Pat , indeed wellcome , I am over in the UK , so I had to google Boquete , I think you are right , it sure looks good to me ,
  22. Hi Kokxas . I am no expert on these things , ( I just try and do the humour ) and in the UK , it looks like we need more details of your o/s and country, are you in RUS ? , if so testing over 4000 miles your test results seem about right , 2.8b out of 4 , I have a 6 x1 conection in the UK, 3000 miles to Dalas TX , and get about 5x1/2 , the distance being the killer ,
  23. I feel 2010 today , ( late night ) so no prob this end ,
  24. I got a down button when I first got married , seems like it comes with the territory
