  6. NNoooo don't tell me XP pro is in the way out, It's still running fine here , I kinda issed the all singing and dancing Vista , been thinking about 7 , but decided to wait and see with 8 , would I load a dogy coppy of XP , yes but I get the customer to click on yes on the Eula , if it's his computer and he supplies the OS cd and key , thats his problem , BTW around 70% of computers running XP I see in the UK are pirate , not so with Vista , I guess it wasn't worth pirating ? Win 7 legit is very cheap in the UK ( around $50 USD ) but the uptake as far as I can see is low , I guess XP legit will be around for many years , back in 2008 the company I was working for moved from win 95 to XP , I cant see them scrapping that for some while yet , but what the hell do I know ,I thought win M.E was the greatest thing since sliced bread , and no I never got a BSOD Maybe I ain't trying hard enough ,
  7. You sure can Bro , it may have been my original quote from way back , now I prefere Tdawnaz's quote can we say beautiful acceptance awareness and truth , I lost the NP Disorder , a couple of months back , I got hit in the teeth wthl a glider wingtip ,aperantly it gives my mouth character so I have been told , meanwhile my dentist is looking into it , well no matter ,I grew up thinking I was the original ugly kid joe , but then that never stopped me ( wink ) and it still don't , but I will admit the love bites are looking odd these days BTW, has the unable to upload pictures problem feature been solved ?
  10. It's a sticky ? seems like Vista is dead and gone, I still think it's win 7 or XP ,sure support for X p is now buried , but I support computers running win M.e , ( win 9x ) and got a free customer on 98, and doing OK ( silver surfer), her computer is a Stapes 750 Mhz, she 89 y , she uses email for family across the world and my Numero Uno customer , and still on 56k dial up , but she can still type faster than me , I am kinda thinking is anyone still on Vsta? or is it a clear cut fight betweem XP and 7 ,? maybe a poll is needed ,? win 98 win M.e ,( never had a problem with it ) XP Vista ( makes me think of visit but ain't staying ) Win 7 or are you a mac fan ? ,far to rich in this dog eat dog world , BTW I started out with win 3.,1 ,and no I dont want to go back

  12. I hope somebody from the Philippines picks up on this , I can't advise ( UK ) is this problem just your city or all of the country ? , Like the UK you are a island , we are close (22 miles) from mainland Europe , indeed distance is the killer of BB , I am 3500 miles from TMN USA , and I have a lose ( about 20% of speed ) do you not have a Philippine forum , ? , (although you are welcome here ) I was thinking local information is worth having , my only connection with the Philippines is I have a Friend living there , he uses a local INTERNET café , without a problem , Regards Roco UK
  13. Have a great day Regards Roco UK
  14. great to have you along terry101, I am nearly out of contract with Pipex ( been with them for 8 years , since way back in the 512Kb days . they have always been reliable , but I am looking at Be , but still not sure with my long line I will see any advantage , I guess I will hang on until BT rolls out fibre to the cabinet localy , my BB is £19.50 a month including all phone calls , and line rental and I don't realy need anymore than 6Mbps download speed , my line attenuation ( distance ) is 45 dB that dropped from 51 Db after some bas** stole the cable and wiped out 700 + local phones for more than a week , still it's a ill wind , my speed went up another 1 Mbps after the new cable was laid , same post code as your xchange ? dang , I am moving house soon , the estate agents think I am mad when I ask how close is the nearest exchange ,
  15. OK Sat is none of my buisness ,The UK is a small island , I don't know anyone over here on sat , it's either Adsl via phone line or Fibre optic cable in the larger towns , but I was thinking ( dangerous for me ,I might have to go and lay down ) sure America and Canada are vast , and beyond my comprehension on size , but railways cross both , laid wayback in the good old days , I figure a Sat is a short lived costly item , never going to have great speed or pings , surly it's cheaper long term to lay cable , maybe to the nearest town then wirelless link from there , ? , the UK now has Adsl to 90% of folk , some I agree are only seeing about 1.5 Mbps , the remaining 10% are slowly getting radio relay links , maybe having one national phone company back 40 years was a good thing ( anyone had the right to a phone line no matter how remote , ) Sorry if my comments sound stupid , but it's the only way I learn BTW , I just re- thougth this post , in the England I guess you can't be further than 30 miles away from a town , and mountains are no bigger than a nipple on a virigin , ADSL on the phone line ? 8 years back my line was good for a max of 2Mbps , same line now gives me 6 Mbps , soon to be going to 24Mbps , ( fibre to the local cabinet , 400 yards away ) to me Sat dosn't seem the way forward , Regards Roco UK
  16. I guess it depends on which review you read, I got sold on Mint , well, maybe sold is a misomer ? it was free , I never got it online in the past , it was a bit like open office for me, that I found was crap back then , maybe I ain't geeky enough , I need a system to work like my fridge , washing machine , and the cooker , ( put my dinner in the oven , press the button , eat the meal) , plugins ? I leave that to my G/F ,, , I admit I have put my dinner in the washing machine in the past ( thanks J.D, ) , it came out a bit dry next day ,
  17. I am on I E 8 now , it takes a bit of taming , but works well for me , F** k firefox etc , in the past it as clunky and no faster for me , I guess that will get the fire fox guys howling , but do I need to run a browser that needs I.E as a back up, ? Tommie I think from past posts we both ran Pirform de-fragger ? , for me it seemed to lose it's way with it's updates ? auslogic defrager, seems to have got it right for me , it has a nice option to speed up disk layout for fast booting , ( recomended once a week ) indeed my puter still boots in under 30 seconds, either way I do a full "C" drive back up b4 adding new programs, I guess it's a old habit dating back to the 90's once bit., twice shy is the way I go , ,
  18. Speed and things I got a thing about light things being faster, one of the reasons I never tried Vista My computer is a budget home build , 3 core AMD with 2 Gb of memory ,(It’s no faster in normal use than when running 1 Gb .) my O/S is Xp pro 32 b, for testing I use Performance test V5 by passmark software , Been logging tests for years , My interest is in lightening the services running , a good tool for that is Micro’s Systernals procexplorer , I was using AVG antivirus, free , till I noticed the number of running services , Now using Avast free , it is very configurable and light , Just been running Glary Utilities , as a clean up tool ( from Cnet ) It also has loads of options , and so far is working well , it’s free And the latest de- frag tool is by Auslogics , it sure does a better job than the built in m/s tool , also free, I now have my system running with only 20 services , that includes a software firewall and Avast antivirus , and seeing a 19% increase in performance on my computer , The disclaimer If anyone uses any of these tools , be it on your head , not mine , they worked for me , That’s all I am saying BTW . my next project is Linux Mint 10 , been there in the distant past , and didn't like it , but then I don't give up that easy
  19. Hi Fred , good to see you around , so whats with the "it sure feels good to be back home "???? from another old timer Roco .........UK
  20. as Zalrenate said , also you are testing long distance ,I Loose about 30 % testing over 3000 miles , my local UK 5.5 Mbps drops to about 3.6Mbps ,
  21. looks like your M/b has on board graphics , try pluggng the monitor it that , as Ray said it could be the card , can you look up bleep codes for the P.B ? all I could find is http://www.foxconnch...ID=en-gb0000079 ""Beep Code" Means… No beeps Short, no power, bad CPU or motherboard, or the CPU is not installed properly. One long beep, then two short beeps Video problem Continuous hi-lo beeps CPU overheating Repeated long beeps Memory error All other beeps Memory related error
  22. I live on a hill ( small ) in Richmond UK , ( belive me with the UK rain ,living on any hill is a luxury , along with 12,000 other folk all clinging on , , 200 hundred years back only Dick Turpin( Highwayman ) and a few revenue men lived here , Oh, and our local legend "Gentleman Jim " another highwayman , he did the imortal "stand and deliver " with his pistol raised , the only passenger on the stage coach was a pretty young girl , the only gold she had was a locket given by her dead father ,so Jim the gentleman settled for a dance with her , and she kept the locket , his downfall was on another robbery he aciddently shot and wounded a Duke , and later wrote a letter of appology , very few could write in those days , Doh, indeed he was the 2nd son of a nobleman , it's the curious "heir and spare" syndrome our royal families still practice today , the spare in case the first born dies , and it's got to be a male , Just see what you folk are missing without a Royal family ???? , ( it's all in the breeding just like race horses ) folk I admire " the Dutch " ( Netherland/Holland ) I sayed in a hotel 30 ft below sea level ( the sea was only 1/2 mile away ) I didn't sleep easy ,
  23. You know I could never say no , as long as you can put up with old grumpy ,
  24. BTW , Be back soon , I am going on a cruise
  25. Sorry maybe I am just a Brit realist ? , maybe we should put it to a vote /Poll ? , America and the UK is not fine ( much to my regrete ), the hugging and back slapping has long gone , just ask the Brit members of TMN ( hello anyone there ? ) indeed I was well aware of frappers demise , another fine mess you got me into ? , (my posted vid ) and honey don't take my posts so serious, I could be wrong , I often am , but at least I am posting , Best regards Roco....UK
