You could also run Darik's Boot & Nuke. It will wipe out everything on the harddrive. Than reinstall Windows. http://www.dban.org/

In your other thread you said you were unstable before you updated the BIOS. Did you do a fresh install of windows after the update? Windows could be corrupted from a bad install.

I agree with Mudmanc4. Since you have a $1000.00 processor , money must be no problem. The 790i will be a good match for that processor. You are also going to have to buy some DDR3 memory to go with that motherboard.

Just a quick question on partitioning my hard drive
Buntz replied to scdreamin3's topic in General Discussion
What I did to partition my notebook harddrive [ 250 GB ] to dual boot Vista and Kubuntu was Install Vista completely on a 132.97 GB partition with a another 12.95 GB partition going to the HP Recovery. That left 86.96 GB of free space. I then put in the install disk for Kubuntu, when it got to the partition part of the install, all I had to do was click on the option that said[ install in the largest free space ] and then let Kubuntu finish doing the install. After Kubuntu install was done, I check Windows Disk Management and ended up with 4 partitions. #1 was Vista with 132.97 GB,#2 was Kubuntu with 83.38 GB, #3 was also Kubuntu with 3.58 GB, the #4 was HP Recovery with 12.95 GB -
I run Real Temp to check the temperature of my Intel Quad core . Give it a try and see what it says . It is said to be the most accurate one out now for Intel. http://www.techpowerup.com/realtemp/

Take out the ram, video card, disconnect the harddrive and any thing else you have hook up to the motherboard. Just leave on the power supply wires and the start up button hook up.and turn it on. You should get the error beeps. If you do then install one thing at a time till you get to the problem that you are having now. Edit- I have to go ,got one hell of a thunder storm go on outside.
-
Put in one ram stick at a time and see if it will boot.
-
That would be the next step. Before you do that is there a friend or someone else who has a video card you can borrow first. This way you can be sure it the card and not a motherboard problem or something else that is causing the problem.
-
Leave them in and let's see what happens.
-
Yes, 30 sec to 1 min should be enough time.
-
Turn everything off and unplug the computer. Get a small screwdriver and push down [ easy ] on the metal tab at the bottom of the battery. The battery will fall right out.

Vista on my laptop and my desktop. XP running on my Folding@ Home desktop. I been running Vista for a while now and never had any problems with it.

You do not want to go cheap on your power supply. Here are two links to Corsair power supplys. Corsair makes some of the best for a good price power supply and get very good reviews too. the cheapest one http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817139003 Second choice http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817139004 If you do need a OS here is a link to XP home edition http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16832116511 i

Not bad. What about the power supply? Case does not come with one.

I think you should try Nanobot ideal too and buy a barebones computer. If you can't find one you like then try out my ideal and buy one from a big manufactures and upgrade it after you get it.I do not think you could build one from scratch and have the parts shipped for the price you are working with. Minimum parts needed. Case motherboard CPU Memory Harddrive Video card CD or DVD Player Operating System Power Supply You may be able to swing it using low end parts, I do not think you will be happy with the computer when you get done with it. Edit- If you are going to run Vista I would recommend at lease 2GB of ram as a minimum. Vista loves memory. I run 4GB of memory in my notebook and 8GB of memory in my desktop computer. Memory is one of the cheapest parts you can buy.
-
We need more info. Are you rebuilding a current computer or are you starting from scratch. If you are rebuilding a computer we need to know what you have so far. If you are starting from scratch you will have a hard time building a gaming computer for that price. You would probably be better off buying a computer from one of the big manufacturers and adding the ram and upgrading the video card later on. Just make sure it has a good power supply so you can run the video card with out any problems. Edit- Nanobot ideal is also a good way to go.

When you connected directly to the modem did you turn the modem off first? Turn the modem off ,wait 1 minute then turn the modem back on.
-
If you did the test during day time hours there maybe to much other traffic on the node. For me to get the speed in my sig I usually have to test between Midnight to 9:00 AM. There are no programs that I know of that will tweak Vista to improve your connection speed right now, so like me you are basically stuck with what you got. Cablenut does not work in Vista. Call Comcast and have them send someone out to check all of your cable connection, cable modem and the cable going to your modem, they may find a bad connector or a bad cable. Edit-If your are running a router, try hooking right up to the modem, bypassing the router and see what you get for speed.
