Put Mandriva on my new notebook, but it a little buggy,so I am now going to download Kubuntu and try it out. Is there any advanage going with the 64-bit version or should I stay with the 32-bit version.

I have Comcast Cable. I pick #4 too. But I think it is kind of high for what I get. I pay $52.95 a month for 768/8000 plan and most of the time my download speed is half of what it should be, My upload speed is usually good.

You did change the booting priority from the harddrive to the CD player in the BIOS? Edit - Late again. I got to learn to type faster to keep up around here..
-
It would boot to the CD ,but the program would not work right. I also had trouble running Kubuntu on that computer so I ended up removing it. Probably a hardware compatibility problem.
-
I also had trouble booting Gparted when I was dual booting linux. I find another program called Cute Partition Manager that worked for me. It free also. http://www.cutepm.com/

To remove the sound drivers in Vista you have to do this. Click on Control Panal / then click on Programs & Features / Then click on the sound drivers you want to uninstall / A permission box will come up telling you are about to uninstall the drivers, click on continue / reboot after it is done removing the drivers.

I think another downside is cold weather. The oil gels up in cold weather so you need some kind of fuel heater if you live in a cold climate. Tractor trailer use fuel heater when they run in cold climate you might be able to use the same heater they use. You might have to modify it to work with vegetable oil.

Why do people hate Windows Vista? Has Apple brainwashed America?
Buntz replied to CA3LE's topic in General Discussion
Like I said early I just brought Vista 64-bit Ultimate OEM version for $179.99 at Newegg last Friday. It's down to $169.99 this week. The retail version is only $289.99 not $400.00 and that is for Vista Ultimate http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16832116215 [OEM version ] http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16832116473 [ Retail version ] -

I am rebuilding my current computer now and I will be using windows vista 64 bit on it. I will let you know in a couple of weeks what I think of it. I did use the Beta version when it was out and had only minor problems with it. Roco Can you get a OEM version over there? I got my copy from Newegg for $179.99 USD [ I do think that it is still a high price for just a OS ], Windows Vista 64-Bit Ultimate for System Builders Single Pack DVD. It only give you the install disk, none of the other useless stuff that you will never use anyway. -
Take the side cover off and see if the motherboard name and number is written on the motherboard.
-
What motherboard do you have? If you still have the manual that came with the motherboard it might tell you what the codes mean.
-
Does the BIOS come up before it crashes? Also what are the numbers that are being displayed.

BSOD when not in safe mode in vista 32
Buntz replied to Le_Murphant's topic in Networking and Hardware
Did you try memtest on the ram stick that you took out by it self without the other ram stick in? If it also does not error than you may have a motherboard problem. -
BSOD when not in safe mode in vista 32
Buntz replied to Le_Murphant's topic in Networking and Hardware
If you believe the problem is cause by Vista being corrupted and it is not a hardware problem, then you can try this.THIS WILL WIPE CLEAN THE WHOLE HARDDRIVE SO BACKUP EVERYTHING YOU WANT TO KEEP. You do have the full OS on that DVD right? If not do not do this. You can try to reinstall Vista. Just make sure you reformat the harddrive when you reinstall Vista. -
Quote from: ninjageek While I am sure I am dreaming, wonder if the new nehalem will still fit the the older motherboards or will all that have to be switched as well. Ah the times they are a changing. Short answer is No. It will be using a new socket . [ LGA 1160 ] Intel says that it needs more pins for the internal memory controller.

Dual test is not working for me either. Error 671 Sorry, your score of 314197 Kbps is over TestMy.net's max of 100000 Kbps. It is very doubtful your connection is faster than 100000 Kbps... Please RETEST * Are you running a firewall? -- Some firewalls may need to be taken down for TestMy.net to work. After the firewall is taken down your browser may need to be restarted also. * Do you have an internet accelerator or proxy running? -- Some internet accelerators may cause false results when testing at testmy.net. It's recommended and necessary for you to take down all programs that cache pages. Note that your connection is the same speed although these programs make your connection appear faster because they precached pages for you. Pages that have been precached (in other words fetched for you in advance) are counter productive when you're trying to benchmark what your real line speed is. * Are you accessing the page incorrectly? -- Clicking the back button repeatedly in your browser often is the cause of this error, please refrain from using your browsers back button if you get this error often.

Compare speeds, testing on testmy.net's new server
Buntz replied to CA3LE's topic in Show off your speed
This is my midnight to 9: 00 am speed test when Comcast is not overloading the node. It was done at 5:08 am. I will have to do another test when I get home after work to see what I can get on my 9: 00 am to midnight test. If I am lucky I will be able to get 6000 Kps on the download test. Upload test usually stay about the same around 1200 Kps to 1500 Kps.
