Too bad it didn't work the other way around...Having to sign up to get telemarketer calls................
-
Same here. Heard they are planning on doing a directory for cells now, so it's good to put those numbers on the list too!
-
Yeah, Signed up for it when it first started. Seems to work pretty well. My state has a separate one as well. Cholla, do you remember what the waiting period is?

Could be your distance from testmy. I'm located in Maine, so my speed tests are usually slower than the Adelphia test sites are. Also, it depends on the size of the test file downloaded as well. Smaller files give faster results, from what I've seen. Still: :::.. Download Stats ..::: Connection is:: 3330 Kbps about 3.3 Mbps (tested with 2992 kB) Download Speed is:: 406 kB/s Tested From:: https://testmy.net/ (server2) Test Time:: Tue Jun 07 2005 20:25:39 GMT-0400 (Eastern Daylight Time) Bottom Line:: 59X faster than 56K 1MB download in 2.52 sec Diagnosis: Looks Great : 7.94 % faster than the average for host (adelphia.net) Validation Link:: https://testmy.net/stats/id-Y69AK37QX Not bad for a 4 Mb connection........

Yeah, didn't even consider the bandwidth issue as a problem but can see how it could become an issue awfully quick. PHP with Spybot, it is hosted by many different companies. It looks like the selection that you can download from is randomized somehow because the list changes sometimes each time I go to download it.

IS IT POSSIBLE TO BRIDGE TWO 2MEG LINES?
cak46 replied to lewis.c12's topic in Networking and Hardware
Welcome to the forum lewis.c12. I am assuming that you want to connect your one computer to both of the 2mb connections. You'll need 2 nic's and an operating system that will handle "multi-homing" (Win2K or above).. If there is a different configuration or more information on what you are looking to do please post it. -
Why can't I connect to my modem's diagnostics page?
cak46 replied to Svendog's topic in Networking and Hardware
Those are some pretty big fluctuations in power. Make shure everything is tightened down and BTW, how many splitters, if any, do you have from where your cable comes in to where your cable modem is? Might be a bad connection or splitter issue. -
The internal ip for the router would be within his own lan, ............... Doesn't matter what the ip is internally and rr has nothing to do with that ip. I tracerouted the 10. ip and it came up somewhere in virginia with a funky name.... not a road runner machine, they are good about their naming conventions. You're rightabout it probably being hosed, but I'm not convinced the router is unaccessible. Since he's already posted his ipconfig info and we found the 10. ip, can't go much further unless wingzero decides to go forward with assigning a static ip with proper subnet mask and gateway info to try and access it. Could just keep using it the way it is, I suppose.
-
HaloBox, why would his dhcp server ip be from a IANA reserve block? Wingzero, the submask set for your ip is wrong for accessing the router, I believe. You might want to consider changing your ip to a static one along with using that dhcp ip as your gateway and subnet mask for your ip of 255.255.255.0 If you want to do this, look up the page under linksys's site using "red diag light blinking" or, just buy a new router.

Same here....haven't seen 'em. Think that would be a bit distracting............ -

Guess I was a little off....................... -
try putting in the dhcp address 10.38.0.1 in your browser. Here is the IANA for that block of addresses. Are you sure you didn't change your internal ip? Glad that its working for you now. -
Network Interface Card connection problem
cak46 replied to phantom113's topic in Networking and Hardware
Are you running two different internet connections? If the light is not on on the westell, and your intel card is connected to that, this could be why you can't connect with the intel. Power down your computer, then the westell. Leave it off for 10 seconds or so, power the westell back up and wait for it to connect, then power up your computer. If you are running physical connections, disable the other connection prior to shutdown. Edit: If this didn't work, go to Device manager, check "show hidden devices". The miniport should show here. If there is a yellow insginia by it, try updating the drivers for it. -

The local area connection is the connection to your westell. Is this showing enabled or is it greyed out disabled in your Network connections window? Another test to see if youre connected tot he web: Get to a command prompt and type ping www.yahoo.com Command prompt is found by the following: Start>Run then type in cmd and click Run. Type Exit to close the cmd window. If you get replys, it's connected to the net, if it times out, you still aren't. If still not connected, reboot and try the ping again. -

You have two nic cards or the mini port is using your intel card? Is it a Westell router/modem combo that your nic is connected to? -
I use crucial.com quite alot for memory purchasing.

Network Interface Card connection problem
cak46 replied to phantom113's topic in Networking and Hardware
Check the configuration for the nic itself. Set the speed and duplex to full duplex, 100Mb and see if it connects (may have to reboot).. Please let us know. Welcom to the forum! -
I believe he's talking about the firmware. Kinda like FlashBios. Same thing. Get to a command prompt and put in ipconfig /all then post your gateway and dhcp server addresses. I want to see if it's the router ip or outside of your lan. On another note, incoming pings may be blocked (Where the cable modem is plugged into the router), but from within your lan, they are not (up to and including the router). With your networking class, you were probably dealing with a moch more complex and expensive router. Have not heard of getting a terminal session with a home router (could be, but I doubt it). Might be a stupid question, but is your computer plugged into one of the four switch ports and your cable modem into the WAN port? Please post the results.

Not necessarily... i'm not up on infrastructure of cable plant, but one adelphia tech told me they had removed docsis 1.1 from the part of their system that I am on, since they had replaced the modems of the customers. Not sure whether this means the systems are not backward compatible. Frankly, I don't know. Here is the ip for your 1 internal modem diag. screen. Enter the ip in the explorer address screen, then click Go. Saw literature on DocsDiag, a program that comes with your modem for diagnostics? Edit: might help to have the ip : 192.168.100.1

put into words a two year old can understand.
cak46 replied to zulu79's topic in Networking and Hardware
Even with win98 or ME, your machine will get laggy because of the low ram. It depends on the programs, but if they are all active (using cpu clicks and ram) or reserve alot of ram space, four would bog down '98 or 'me as well with that amount of ram. I wouldn't run xp with under 512 of ram but it really likes 1GB. -
Yeah... Found information that says your modem supports the max for docsis. www.toshiba.com/taisnpd/products/pcx2500.pdf Hopefully sooner than later!
