  2. ronss - welcome! I'm seeing some packets timing out in the Cox network. Have you called Cox to see what is up with that? Can you also post a speedtest result that you are seeing from the speedtest on this site - do one during the slow hours versus the faster hours.

  5. I would be careful to distinguish between a Smartbro Cablenut setting and CSS as the more commonly known Cascading Style Sheets acronym. However, as always (!) sharing a tested cablenut setting is definitely appreciated.
  6. Welcome! It's likely due to the path from you to the servers. Try testing against a mirror closer to you: http://www.testmy.net/o-mirrorBAF http://www.testmy.net/o-mirror-Diablo321 http://www.testmy.net/o-mirror-TimPawlak2
  7. WPA can be beaten fairly easy as well: http://www.technewsworld.com/story/32070.html http://www.gnucitizen.org/blog/bt-home-flub-pwnin-the-bt-home-hub http://www.crn.com/security/18824216 http://www.wifinetnews.com/archives/002453.html There are other protocols and security measures out there (ie. 802.11i) to patch up some of the holes. The trouble is that there are always people finding more flaws. Your best bet, do a combination of the security measures at your disposal. And be smart!
  8. You might have luck with the "Verizon_Fios_PPPOE_30000_5000.css" file, or maybe another of the Verizon Fios files. You can find these from VanBuren testmy.net Cablenut settings.
  9. MAC addresses can be spoofed. However, it's not really much of a threat, as the wireless pirate would need to know the MAC to begin with in order to infiltrate your filter. This would require a fair bit of homework and investigating, and probably means that they have also gained admin access to your router. Unless you've really pissed one of your neighbour's off, I'd say this is an unlikely attack. If you believe you've been victimized by something like this, I'd recommend setting up a strong WEP or turning off your wireless and switching to wired for a while. A fine step to go along with MAC filter is to disable your SSID broadcast.
  10. I'd probably get tired of living after a few short hundred years... But then again, there are many thrills to be had. As long as I'm not on a walker for the last 920 years of my life.... And think about the savings in seniors discounts!

    PING?!

Traceroute is another good ICMP resource. Ping tells you how long it takes to get from your computer to the server you are testing against and back. Traceroute goes into further detail by showing you the response time from every router/server that you hit between your computer and the server. This is a good way to determine at which point in the route to the server you are experiencing latency. Try it out (from the command line): tracert testmy.net
  14. I agree with peepn here: the disable button on the front of these lappy's is a nuisance. If that's not the issue, you may want to remove and reinstall the wireless adapter drivers.
  15. Here, here, Mr. Roosevelt! As an (educated?) outsider looking in, he is certainly one of my favourite Presidents of past.
