Haha , yes , I remember all the " wtf " about cool n quiet once everyone started using it.

I'm using 8.8.4.4. and testing another right now myself. Of course it has a quick ping time , they have a sever on every corner lol There used to be a good list of external dns by overall rated speed and security.

Thanks for the suggestion AlucardHS , but yes , not just the piece I'll need. Chances are I'll be doing it with PFsense I just haven't looked into it yet.

So I have several USB 3.5" drives , been using them with a USB powered hub. Anyone have a solution for connecting USB devices or drives to the local lan ? Doesnt have to be fast , if i want fast I'll put the data ona a local server. I have a WD world book that has a USB connection , I suppose i could connect the hub to that , but even then I can still only connect to the drives through the world book that connects with a cat5 to the network. I would connect them to one of the local boxes, either PFsense , a centOS server, or an ubuntu server, just hadn't thought to far past a hub of some sort. It would be great if there were a USB hub where a ethernet connection lives with so I could keep them within there own subnet or even subdomain.

Considering the RAID controller is located within the board , yes the CPU will host it ,and actually RAID 1 will give some increase to reads , because it now reads from two places instead of one. I understand your comment though , if we were dealing in a server situation then yes you would want to consider going with another RAID option. But then again we would be utilizing an actual RAID device. Not to forget the proper RAID10 application requires minimum of 4 physical drives where RAID1 minimum is 2. So as my experience goes , I'll have to err on the side on RAID1 for this application. Elliot , my thoughts on how the system will be clocked up is most definitively within the BOIS by increasing bus speed x multiplier , not forgetting about voltage, remembering when you upclock this , the main bus will be clocked , so everything will run at increased frequency , forcing the divider ( ram/cpu ) to be adjusted so we don't overclock the graphics card.

That MB is RAID capable , think about grabbing another HDD by all means, at least one, in fact get two more as RAID 5 requires minimum 3 . Cost matters here because you have a 1tb drive , so maybe just RAID1 will be a nice little read boost while gaming. But if you do , match the exact size of the drive , of course the same brand helps , but I've done it several times with different stickers on it but the same size. More then likely the same drive with different branding.

Windows Xp Repair Cannot Finish Due To Safe Mode
mudmanc4 replied to TheArtworkGuy's topic in General Help
This is what I was concerned with. Once the mbr has been overwritten by either a partial installation ( which is just about what you have there or had ) then the fixmrb command doesn't have any relevant information to grab from the boot sector so it chucks a fresh one in pointing no where. no I dont know exactly, why it does that , never did , just been there many times before. Same way when trying to install windows next to linux , windowz cares not what else is on the disk . Where linux will at the least look , and give the option to install a bootloader to access both installation folders. Do you have any live linux cd ? Something that you would be able to see the existing file structure on the hdd ? If not there free if you can't download one for some reason, i have ubuntu 10.10 oem disks here for you. There are ways to do this unless theres worse damage. You should be able to install linux next to the windoze installation , and unless the directory tree has been trashed by a virus ( maybe the reason you got it in the first place ) then you should be golden , i did say should hahah -

Windows Xp Repair Cannot Finish Due To Safe Mode
mudmanc4 replied to TheArtworkGuy's topic in General Help
You can do it easily. But carefully. Go grab yourself a copy of Gparted , a free open source partition editor. Boot from the CD that you just burned. Takes a minute so no worries, I can't remember exactly where it is in there but you should see where you can re write or over write the MBR or " master boot record " . This can cause the system to be useless, I just state this for the simple reason that someone will do it for another reason. But you have one. I have to say that recovery disks have been known to bork the entire installation, at times deleting the entire directory structure and deleting the MBR instead of correcting it , it re writes it as if there is new installation . after this can certainly render everything useless. So I hope they have a backup of there data , and another installation disk for the OS ? You have to be very careful at what you do at this point, there is one way that Iv'e gotten around this, thats to install a linux distro side by side, this will install a boot record , and then install grub , a boot loader. You might want to think of this before attempting to re write the MBR really. Even if the disk is small , you can still install a basic linux system on it to get what you need to get you out of hot water, and make the windoze installation bootable again. -

My Net Provider Say My Speed Is Slow Because....
mudmanc4 replied to SKYCAMERA's topic in New Members
Hey SKYCAMERA , I see your last tests ~ Try running the tests several times , at different times of the day. Also you could do a trace route to testmy.net start > run > type " cmd" without the quotes > type in tracrt testmy.net To copy the output from the shell ~ Right-click on the command shell window. A context menu pops up. Select the Mark option. Use the mouse to select a rectangular area. (You can also use the cursor keys. Hit Down to move to the first line that you want to copy, then press Shift+Down to select the lines you want to copy.) Hit Enter Switch to another program (such as Notepad) and paste (Ctrl+V). Then you can copy to here ( thee are other ways but keeping it simple. ) -
Well roco i suppose updating the 15 year old OS might help in keeping some of the newer un wanted items out. So you don't like java either huh ? well I see.

Since DNS pharming is becoming more prevalent then ever , it should be on the minds of everyone. What about googles namebench for DNS performance querry ? Anyone used it to see what the best DNS solution is as tuned for you ?

Hey Tedzepplin good to see you back in here first of all. My first reaction s well as likely yours , is a defective CPU. If I were in your case the first thing that comes to mind , after you doing what you have already done as far as monitoring ect , is to switch the CPU's between the machines If the second PC reacts the same way ( the hot core ) , then chances are a .001 micron chunk of dandruff got caught in the die lol You might also want to look into the graphics card , switch them as well before the CPU , it's at the least more simple yes ? ANyhow , thats my first reaction. Your thoughts ?

I still have the HTC Touch Diamond. Why ? Because I have flashed more ROM's on that thing then cousin vinnie has had canolies. I used droid os before most people knew what it was , and had more apps on it then ten people might have in there lifetime. HTC is one of the most modded devices out there. The hardware is solid, I wouldnt worry to much about the newest software , other then the screen issue of course. Because if your a nerd like myself you'll soon be flashing an unlocked firmware version and the latest ROM with the latest apps that the wireless ISp's don't come close to having. I'm exited for you and hope you get it. !!!!!!!!!!

Well I don't think music has anything to do with what the FCC has in mind. But they are also attacking sites that pirate , but it is most definitively coming in secondary. It has more to do with deciding who is allowed to use public airwaves and internet. And what they are allowed to say. Say you and I have a disagreement on a subject , one of our opinions will be allowed , the other will be considered hate speech. Decided by a commission. Say I would like to have a website that reports and discusses my countries government , it will not be allowed , unless it is there opinion. And i am sure more restrictions then this. From what I have heard so far , there will be a point system , once you reach a certain level , your " license " will be revoked. So this limits information as well as opinion. What kind of world will it be to not be allowed to voice your opinion. Didn't we go through that already in history ? And millions died ? Who would be the ones to decide what needs policing ? And why would this even be necessary , so no one is offended ? Or so only one opinion can be spoken ? One lie so that everyone is to believe it as the truth ? How will history be written , and by who , ? those that have decided that certain information should be told and only that ? Just sad that everyone everywhere isnt standing up against this, because it is most definitely not just in the US. By far. In my opinion , no one anywhere should be stricken from speaking there mind. Noe should anyone anywhere be held back by a panel somewhere that purportedly makes the news for the people to take as fact.

Well you by now can tell when your graphics card is heating up , stuttering , then artifacts and sunburst like lines. Omega drivers , is a driver specifically made for ATI and nVidia cards for gaming. Works great even if your not gaming. Here's a general link , you'll have to make a few choices to get to the correct driver for your OS Omega Drivers for ATI You should grab the att " gpu Z " , it's going to give you loads on info on your card. If it refuses to give you the temps , then you might want to update the VGA bios. GPU-Z.0.4.9.exe.zip

Yes dude i am understanding , as much as anyone not within the MS team in that dept and up could. Somehow you are equating your own experiences with web and MS reasoning behind shutting the update system off. Your not thinking on there terms. EOL is one thing , stopping support is another , either way , it's irrelevant . By your reasonings they have to scrap an entire OS that uses the same update system as the newest OS to remove the old and go with the new , in your own words makes no sense. Anyhow I don't need to use anything MS anywhere in my life. See, I'm complaining about something that I care not about , I realized that when I got over myself wanting to use a proprietary system that is now but a mere shadow of what it should or could be. I'll stick with BLAG

Roco please don't be fooled by a few key words such as p2p and porn ok , this is about serious sensorship , this is not about trying to stop "illegal" activity . This is about the FCC in the states , as well as around the entire net , choosing who can have a website , yes , you read that correct. This is about who can see what website. Who can say what in twitter , yup and who can read twitter. Who can read testmy.net , and if there should be a testmy.net. Look , this has been going on for some time , the people of course want to do and see more and new news as well as anything else there mouse desires , but in the name of politics , this very well will change , just to what extent is the cause here. This is actually about all media, TV ( I know you dont care roco about TV lol I'm really with you there ) but others do. This is about who can say what on TV and who can see it. Radio the same , who can say what on radio. This is not good for the future. People will lose there free will to do as they please. If you like something , go there and listen or look , if you do not , then leave , right ? Well no , thats what this thing is about , it is about choosing for you what you are even able to hear or read. Putting the control of advertisers and politicians in your face. They are deeming certain peoples opinions as hate speech , since when is an opinion hate ? Thats right , it's not . I'm thinking of generations to come. Thats what this life is all about , right ? Maybe about doing something for those that come after us as we go through this short life , instead of restricting general human freedoms in the name of one persons opinion against another. I like that quote of your words , and it rings true , wait , what did you say lol I fear not nearly enough people understand the scope of what is going on , why , and by whom. It's called gradualism, little by little , changes so slight until life has literally physically changed every aspect until one day we wake up and say , hey , what about ............. Thats whats going on. Learn why.

Yes , I comprehend what you are saying. And I understand software cannot be maintained for ever, not even close to what I was saying . Maybe I should say it different for those caught up in the throw it all away generation. The updates are already there. Leave them in a repository accessible for download instead of hotpatch or otherwise. What the hell is so difficult about this ? Nothing , that right. It makes absolutely no sense other then monetary to remove them, unless the software to begin with was free , making more sense now ? Hello ?
