  1. VanBuren: I had read the definitions I still don't understand why thw RWIN value is not the same for all 3.for example: GlobalMaxTcpWindowSize=128480 TcpWindowSize=128480 DefaultReceiveWindow =128480 instead of this for example this is from ROM-DOS's cablenut screen shot GlobalMaxTcpWindowSize=87600 TcpWindowSize=87600 DefaultReceiveWindow =128840 I asked Van because he's the cablenut expert but if someone else want's to reply it's ok.
  2. Swimmer: Does pc cillin block ping too? My ISP blocks both ping & tracert on dial-up for security they say.So since raptors892004 can ping you are probably right it is something in his OS that is blocking tracert.
  3. I still don't understand why all three of these settings are not set the same in XP since they all appear to set the RWIN: DefaultReceiveWindow ,GlobalMaxTcpWindowSize,& TcpWindowSize. When someone posts a screen shot of their cablenut Manual tweak screen usually these settings are different from each other. Another question ROM-DOS added a 0 to some of his cablenut settings some of this was to the 3 above but also these 2 below .He is testing way above his "cap" on dial-up.These 2 should be wrong
  4. ROM-DOS : I have my modem set to software even made sure the com port was set to soft in win.ini.I use com 3 but thats just a slot change & shouldn't make a difference if there is no resource conflict. The NDT shows your window scaling on
  5. ROM-DOS: netmasta's Instructions are pretty good.My print screen button also has Sys Rq on it it is between F12 & scroll lock button. If Ctrl + V doesn't work for you Left click on the white screen in paint then use edit & paste then save as .jpg.Save to MY Pictures. Then when you post at testmy select additional options at the bottom of the post screen then Browse to MY Pictures & click the screen shot then post.Paint is in StartPrograms Accessories
  6. ROM-DOS : I would like to know some of your other system settings. What modem do you use? What settings have you made to your modem Like extra string settings Or other ? Could you put in a screen shot of your Cablenut Adjuster(Manual tweak screen)?
  7. Niccko: I have dial-up I know my ISP blocks ping & tracert. But the message I get is: C:WINDOWS>ping testmy.net Pinging testmy.net [67.18.179.85] with 32 bytes of data Reply from 65.182.79.69: Destination net unreachable. Trace complete. So your ISP is probably not blocking these .
  8. ROM-DOS :I did this test at a different NDT site because its the only one that gives results in Mb/s when the results are below 1 Mb/s.as you can see much slower than yours. TCP/Web100 Network Configuration Tester v5.1.1 click START to begin Checking for Middleboxes . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . The 2 results are upload & download speed.I use it for the RTT since my ISP blocks ping it gives me an indication of latency. It also reports packet loss. If you want to try what I beleive is the largest possible RWIN(for fun) At least I couldn't get the analyzer test below to give me the unscaled Receive Window on anything larger.I think in XP you need to change it in these 3 cablenut settings for it to work. DefaultReceiveWindow =65781760 GlobalMaxTcpWindowSize=65781760 TcpWindowSize=65781760 https://www.speedguide.net/ TCPIP Analyzer MTU = 1500 MTU is fully optimized for broadband. 9. ROM-DOS : How do you do on this NDT test they always show me fast they should show you faster. http://nitro.ucsc.edu/ My theory is that you are close to a telco terminal & your ISP.Then your ISP accelerates the connection once it gets to them Like maybe the ISP uses FIOS.So only your signal to & from them is on copper & dial-up.What kind of PC do you have because a faster PC would explain part of the faster speed. I think you are getting the fast speed I just would like to know how.
  10. fred:The reason the test says :Your PC is connected to a Cable/DSL modem is because it can't understand that a 56K dial-up modem tests that speed.I have done the NDT test at other sites & didn't get the alarm.
  11. ROM-DOS : I've been messing with my settings so I've been kind of in & out.I have windows ME so my Cablenut doesn't have
  12. ROM-DOS: I checking out some of your settings it did speed up the SmarTest for me.On the larger test about the same. The reason I chose the 128480 RWIN is it shows the unscaled RWIN as 64240 which is as large as you can use with an RWIN based on 1460 MSS .The unscaled RWIN has to be under 65535 or it will scale again. btw I called my phone company to find my distance they sat it 26600 ft from the telco. You probably just have to call your s & ask the distance.I used the CO finder at Broadbandreports it says 16480 ft but SBC should know the distance of their line to me .
  13. ROM-DOS : Your normal connection speed would indicate you are fairly close to the telco.Where did you get the free internet connection? My MTU & MSS is set like yours but i normally use a larger RWIN . Receive Window (RWIN): 128480 Window Scaling: 1 Path MTU Discovery: OFF RFC1323 Window Scaling: ON RFC1323 Time Stamping: OFF Selective Acks: ON MSS requested: 1460 TTL: unknown TTL remaining: 24 2. 14. netmasta: I agree about the NDT test it usually shows that speed or close to it no matter which NDT site I use so thats what I expect. Its just the first time I ever got the alarm message.
  15. I did these tests at the NDT test in Switzerland http://cemp1.switch.ch/network/performance/web100/tcpbw100.html I have a 56k dial-up modem. My question is about this result"Alarm: Duplex mismatch condition exists: Host set to Full and Switch set to Half duplex" Where would the mismatch be there are no setting in my OS for this.btw I don't get this result at other NDT test sites. 16. You are correct 53.3 is what everything says. But here is a link to an old topic & some of the tests I posted.I no longer get these speeds I think CA3LE did some work on the test after that it has been more like it should be for me since.I don't know how ROM-DOS got a faster score. You can't get that type score with a cached test if you cache the test the score is a lot faster on even 56K .http://www.testmy.net/forum/index.php?topic=1739.msg18292#msg18292'>http://www.testmy.net/forum/index.php?topic=1739.msg18292#msg18292 Download Stats ..::: Connection is:: 76 Kbps about 0.1 Mbps (tested with 579 KB) Download Speed is:: 9 kB/s Tested From:: http://www.testmy.net/ Bottom Line:: 1 times faster than 56K you can download 1MB in 113.78 second(s) Validation Link:: https://testmy.net/cgi-bin/get.cgi?Test_ID=UQ4N5IAY9 some slower the second time :::.. 17. ROM-DOS: I have some old tests faster but I haven't had any at testmy for sometime. What is your MTU & MSS setting? What are your settings on PMTU Discovery & Windows scaling? Do you know your distance to the telco or terminal?
  18. amc11890 : The NDT test always shows good speeds when I do this type test.It leads me to believe it is not accurate for a 56K.Because a 56K is not capable of doing those speeds. At testmy I usually get between 30K to 40K which is the correct speed for my 56K at the distance I am from the telco or terminal. At one time the testmy test was showing a lot higher speed but CA3LE has it where it will accuratly test a 56K now.The only thing I test slower at the main test site than the mirrors & the main site is closer.I finally got the Switzerland site on the NDT to work but I got some really odd results .I'm going to post a seperate topic on that & see if anyone knows why. Btw I mostly did these tests because FiosFiend wanted to see some other members do the tests.

  20. I have both IE & FF .I like both if one doesn't work I use the other.
  21. lemon55 : Do you have another browser like Fire Fox ? If you don't & can download it do that & see if you get the same or simular error. If you do then the problem is not in the browser(unless you set something in both the same) .A backup browser can be handy anyway.Heres a link to DL FF: http://www.mozilla.org/products/firefox/
  22. You can run your hijac this through this analyzer. http://www.hijackthis.de/
  23. tdawnaz: For me no Amarillo are prepared to take in about a 1000 Rita victims if we need too Since we didn't get as many Katrina victims as we expected.Amarillo is about 700 miles from the Gulf coast. Our weather problem is tornados but we've been lucky for the last several years. If it hits in the wrong place Houston could suffer some damage but not like New Orleans.Galveston is the largest Texas coast city in danger & Corpus Christi .
  24. chuckle : This link might give the explanation if this is your OS or connection type. http://openvpn.net/archive/openvpn-users/2005-04/msg00148.html If Van Buren reads this topic he can probably explain better.
