If the old line test bad then it should help if any of your data goes through the new line & not just your voice part of the signal for your telephone.Provided it is the same guage & the isnulation on the new wire is as good as the old line.

I like Everest that way you don't have to look at the back of the equipment & maybe loosen a connection.I might double check if i was ordering a part but just for a quick check you can't beat Everest.

Van Buren's mirror also has the larger test .Just select download test at the top then test mirrors. Heres the link https://testmy.net/mirrors.php

Cstmstyle I agree with Blunted I think you have bad cable..A short can be a break in the wire if this is inside the insulation you might not be able to tell by looking.I know its a lot of trouble but Take the connectors off & check each wire in the cable for continuity move the cable around when you do this to see if it loses continuity. This can be done with a simple multimeter on the ohm setting. If you can get a couple of female connectors you won't need to take the ends off just build a couple of testers with the female connectors .Then if you find a short remove the male ends & test the cable that should tell you if its the cable or the connectors. You say they are wired correctly but are the connectors supposed to be the same on each end or opposite.Meaning both facing down at each end color code the same or 1 up & 1 down color code the same.

philp: I tried the test at the rr site I got 38K Houston is farther than the Dallas testmy .I got 32K at testmy. My onboard meter "MyVitalAgent" showed both to average 38K.Of course this is dial-up & pretty good for 26600 feet from the telco.

With Windows ME the best way I found to go to safe mode was to hold the Ctrl key down. But I made some entries in msdos specifically to the C:>edit msdos.sys here I added Logo=0 & BootMenu=8 .Now I get a black dos type screen at startup with a boot menu I can select safe mode or normal There are a couple of other safe mode options also.Windows ME doesn't have the safe mode with networking option. If anyone knows how to add this to ME they can post it. I know this didn't do anything to awnser the topic question but I don't think I could have added anything not already said.

php : I don't think the problem is with your program but with my ISP blocking ping & tracert.I don't get any different results when I run ping or tracert myself without your program.I use clipboard very seldom so I really don't know how well it saves other things. The only problem I saw was it didn't put the checktestmy.log in the same file I DLed the zip to.

php :test with Windows ME. I DL the zip by save to Temp file in drive C: I extracted both files in the zip into my Temp file. I selected autocheck.bat.This brought up msdos tracert. The checktestmy.log was not put in the Temp folder but in drive C: It did copy in the clipboard even if the msdos screen said there was a problem.I could not get it to save in clipboard.I was able to open the checktestmy.log with notepad & copy & paste that here. MYRIAGON : In doing some web surfing I ran across this. What do you think about it? : http://forums.infoprosjoint.net/showthread.php?t=1904 "From what I remember from older OS's. You are unable to read from 2 different partitions if they are different formats ( Fat32 and NTFS), well today I partitioned my laptop's 40GB HD. The main partition has Windows XP Professional on it and is a Fat32 drive. I created a new partition around 9gigs and it wouldn't let me format it to a FAT32 drive when I was in Windows. So I was like what the hell, lets make it a NTFS drive and apply the reg tweak that is here in the site somewhere tol make it where I can read both drives from within Windows. To my astoundment, Windows XP is able to read b/t the two different partitions with one being FAT32 and the other NTFS. What is the highest Microsoft OS that can do this ? Or just I just stumble onto a fluke occurance ??"
-
cak46 Good question on the 2000 screen .I noticed that too Glad Van buren knew the awnser.
-
pitbull481 or MYRIAGON: I just wanted to know was the NTFS put in the hard drive by installing XP over the 98 that was on the HD?Or did you format the HD first? If that hadn't been done would it have had the FAT32 for the 98? Did the HD only have 1 partition to start with?
-
try rebooting with nothing in the flopy or cdrom drive .Do you get a no OS screen? One more thing pitbull481 did you set the PC you are putting the 98 into to boot from the CDROM in the BIOS instead of booting from the hard drive?
-
pitbull481Try this if you want to .Go back to the A: prompt with floppy windows startup disk in. At the prompt type" Sys C:" without the quotes. Then go back to the E: prompt & see if the commands

I don't know if you need to use this but here is a link to a Sys C: command http://www.computerhope.com/syshlp.htm#01

pitbull481: You may still have the 98 setup in your XP.I don't have XP so I'm not sure. You should have an options file Or if it has a different name in XP .The file that has the windows install .cabs It may be in the install folder instead of the cabs folder. There should be 2 files setup.exe check properties it may be for XP.Look for one named W9XSETUP.BIN if you have it rename it W9XSETUP.EXE.Then if you have it run the setup it should install windows 98.I don't know how well this will work over XP but if it doesn't you can reformat & install XP or the w2000 from disturbed.I think w2000 is going to work a lot like XP on the older PC.

cak46 the Kaspersky I gave the link to is all online it does a DL to your OS like trendmicro does but I guess it doesn't remove what it finds.I just thought if there is a trial version 99RAT might use it & just not purchase it.Probably wouldn't hurt to uninstall his current antivirus if thats what he does.
