Jules : Here are some dial-up tweaks.Do you have a Telnet you can run a data line quality test to? I put one in a link below but I doubt it will work from Australia.Jusst keep calling your phone company until you get a good tech I talked to several at mine before I found 1 that knew about this test. Most run the standard line quality test.If you can run this one it will tell you what your noise level is.You also should make sure you have a good ground rod that you ground your NID(network interface device) to.Thats the box on the outside of your house.New phone cable inside the house & new phone jacks can lower noise.like cat3 or cat5 there are even sheilded cables if you have a lot of interference from electrical devices in your home. Download & install Cablenut;use the ccs file for your OS & connection. I make these adjustments to Cablenut for a custom dial-up file if it doesn't make yours work better you can use the ones that it puts in automatically. On the RWIN use the one of the settings suggested by TCPIP analyzer for RWIN based on MSS & enable windows scaling. On my Cablenut this is Tcp1323Opts set to 1. Check your system at https://www.speedguide.net/ . Select the TCPIP analyzer. If it shows your MTU other than 1500 or your MSS other than 1460 you need to change it to these. I will add this some dial-up's work better with MTU = 576 MSS = 536 so you can try these too if the larger settings slow you down. You can't make these with Cablenut .I do mine in the registry so I can't tell you how to do it in XP registry. If you have a program that adjusts your MTU &MSS use it. In My Computer go to dial-up networking R.click on your connection select properties. This may be different in XP I will give you the way I do it in ME P probably has the same settings they may be located a little differently. GeneralConfigure on the dial-up modem you are usingmaximum speed to 115200.connectionport settingsset your FIFO Buffers to maximum.advanced error control should be checked, compressed data should be checked, use flow control should be checked, Then it depends on the dial-up modem you have Check hardware for an external dial-up modem or an internal with on board controller,Check software for an internal modem that uses the CPU for its controller(this is the majority of internal modems also called winmodems.) For extra settings try W3;S10=50;S25=100 these depend on your specific modem but these work for several. W3 makes the modem report DCE speed instead of DTE speed.S10=50 is a hangup delay that helps keep you connected.Try these last sometimes the ISP won't connect with the extra settings & you have to take them out. Back to the General tab if the phone number you use for dial-up is in the same area code as you are uncheck the use area code box.In the networking tab under advanced options check enable software compression & under allowed network protocols uncheck everything but TCP|IP unless your dial-up uses one of the others to connect. . Open your registry (start - run - type regedit) and change the following registry entries: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESystemCurrentControlSetServicesClassNet000X (where X is a number between 1 and 9)there is a value named SLOWNET, change it from 01 to 00. HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESystemCurrentControlSetServicesVxDCOMBUFF it has a value called Start, change its value from 00 to 01. HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESystemCurrentControlSetServicesVxDVCACHE, it has a value named Start, change it from 00 to 01. The last 2 are controversial whether the help or not they usually don't hurt performance & sometimes help. HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESYSTEMCurrentControlSetContro lPriorityControl (if PriorityControl is not there, make the value) - on the right hand side right click and select new DWORD value, name it IrqXPriority (X = Irq assigned to your modem), then right click it and select modify and give it a decimal value of 1. 9. Open your sys.ini file (start - run -sysedit - ME type system.ini) close the boxes until you are at the one with the title C:WINDOWSSYSTEM.INI, under [386enh] add the line ComXXIrqXXbuffer=4096, XX=Com port your modem is on and Irq assigned to your modem, it should look like Com03Irq07buffer=4096. Then select file - save and reboot to take effect. You can check these 2 links they are for 98 or ME you may need the patch in one of them to enable windows scaling. https://testmy.net/forum/index.php?topic=1772.0 https://testmy.net/forum/index.php?topic=1633.0

FallowEarth& coknuck; I have Ad-Aware build 1.06r1 the latest & no problems.I plan to update the Spybot S&D again I just thought I would give them some time & it could have just been a bad DL for some reason.I know I have updated it at least 3 times before with no problems. Most of the time Spybot doesn't find anything in my system & all Ad-Aware finds is a few negligable objects these are just low security risk MRU's.I give Spyware Blaster a lot of credit for keeping spyware out.So I'm sure I'm safe to wait & update again later.

FallowEarth sometimes it would freeze my OS & I would have to do a hard shutdown.I thought I would try it again in a couple of months & see if it would work better.Probably just something in it that didn't agree with Windows ME.The definitions are the same in 1.3 at least for now.I have adaware by Lavasoft too as well as Spyware Blaster & Sygate firewall so nothing is getting in anyway.
-
VampireXxX I had a few problems with the new version of spybot .Version 1.4 I went back to 1.3 for now it works much better for me.If you have the 1.4 version DL the 1.3 try it after you uninstall 1.4 & reboot. Almost any of the antispyware programs should run in safe mode if they don't then something is wrong with the software sometimes its just the DL got corrupted while you were downloading it.Or you installed it with a program running it didn't agree with.Anytime you install any new program its a good idea to shut as many programs down as you can & your OS still operate.

cak46 I tried to PM you but it didn't show up in my outbox. So I thought I would put some of what I thought here so 99 RAT could look at it. I believe you are on the right track with the passwords & keys.99RAT do you have the correct key for your XP Home? You may have to make sure that's in your OS then an administrator password for the XP Home. Then the right key for the XP Pro probably the same administrator password.I think both keys will be necessary because the XP Pro was an update type install. That should get you permission to do what you want to in your OS. The problem started with 99RAT installing Silent Hunter 3 the result was a partial bad install. Thats when the Lsass.exe error message started.Probably because the install was attempted with the user password so it didn't have permission to do a complete install for things that required administrator permission. The uninstall was probably tried the same way.So it was incomplete also.Parts of Silent Hunter 3 are probably still in 99RAT's OS. What I would try once you're sure all keys are in the OS & you have administrator level access. Is install Silent Hunter 3 with administrator password;reboot & then uninstall it;reboot.See if the error stops. If it doesn't try the install & uninstall 2 or 3 times(rebooting in between) to see if it will remove all of the Silent Hunter 3. If it does then you can install Silent Hunter 3 with the administrator password & see if the error shows back up.

I did a search I think you meant M.A.P.S. nettools 3.1 anyway I'm not on a network I have one PC. My ISP blocks ping & trace route so part of the net tools wouldn't help me.I already have software that does most of what the net tools would. Thanks anyway they might help someone. This is a link to what I found: http://www.aptrio.com/Utilities/Network/essential-nettools-346.html

NeeDSpeeD; I had someone do the test then php sent me the reply I quoted.I don't have Dway & didn't know.I woud say since it gives the proxy MTU & MSS it doesn't work correctly for Dway.

Buzz you need to right click on the post you are typing select all then copy.then if it disapears you can just paste it back in.If you are still losing it paste it in notepad & save it . I haven't tried the follwoing but you might be able to open in a new window with IE I think firefox uses a new tab.that might work -

Cable Internet Connection Guide (for Windows XP)
cholla replied to FallowEarth's topic in RoadRunner (Time Warner Cable)
Hi FallowEarth In windows ME you have to type command instead of cmd in the run box.My IP address changes every time I connect. Do you think power cycling helps a 56K dialup modem ? I do . I usually completely power off when I'm not using my PC so in effect I do this at least daily.I even turn off at the surge protector . -
billybob12345 : I haven't tried either .I use MyVitalAgent its freeware works fine with my dialup I'm not sure how it would work for broadband.

CA3LE I am using the testmy black because the font size is larger.I already have largest in the IE veiw.Is there another way to select a larger font size with the new format?Other than that the new format would be fine.
