  1. Cool. Without getting yourself in trouble, approximately how many do you think your store received?
  2. Yeah, there is a limit- I rarely see a member with FIOS hit there mark either. Probably is the nature of the beast, since the headend gear is high end/high dollar gear, and the customer premise equipment is on the cheap side. In the case of cable modems, a cmts runs lets say around $200-300 thousand, and the cable modem in your home that transmits the upstream is around $50. I'm sure the same is relatively true for the FTTH method.
  3. Nice speeds - especially the Upload. I usually don't see any of the x / 2 plans exceed their advertised upload.
  4. Nice set-up. And Transedge01, I think he just has this network set-up for home use. I don't believe he is attempting to run any type of server (team i2d corp again?) out of his home. And you can find racks on ebay, I would look there for prices.
  5. That's what I thought, I have been through your town. So, what do you do for vacation? Do you drive through the Nebraska plains? Or visit the corn fields in Iowa? :haha: I definitely miss the mountain life, I was never bored, and I am one of the few that likes snow as opposed to 95
  6. You lucky SOB. That is some beautiful country you live in. Been through there a long time ago. I live in NE now, but lived in Oregon a few years back. When I took vacation to come back home, I always drove so I could basically go exploring. Drove all around Wyoming, Montana, Idaho, etc. If I recall, isn't there a section of Hwy 212 that is at 12,000 feet elevation to the W/SW of you? Or is that a different highway I am thinking of. Enjoy the snow!
  7. Pretty descent for satellite, actually I can't recall seeing better ping times than yours. Can I ask, what part of the planet are you located? Just curious where the snow is falling right now.
  8. That is strange. My window shows "Ping.exe" like resopalrabotnick is saying: Also, I attached ping.exe from my PC (it works), try running it, see if you get good results. I believe you will have to save it in c/windows/system32. I would change the name ping.com to something like pingBAD.com temporarily, and then try pinging again. If anyone else can jump in to help that would be great.

  11. I am running Serv-U FTP server. They give you the full version for 30 days free to try, then a limited version free after that. The limited version accepts 2 connections at once, and some security settings are disabled. Not too shabby for free, though....
  12. Yes, you go to the appearance tab under your display proper.....................wait, never mind When you are able to get to your appearance tab under the display properties, that is where you can change the default colors. Strange problem-

  16. It is nothing to worry about. There is always some type of activity. For example - your modem is sending out a signal every 30 seconds just to let the cmts (device at the headend) know that it is alive and to ask the cmts if it's upstream power needs to be adjusted. This is just one example of the many behind the scenes activities going on. You also have all of those fool script kiddies trying to ping everything on the planet, but if your firewall is sufficient, then not to worry.

  18. Thanks; I changed the user name, but the folder name I did not change. After reading up a little more I learned that it is a bad idea to change the folder name like you are saying. I will have to watch myself when posting screenshots a little closer, once in a while I post my full name by accident.
  19. I like that, too. But, once in a while I will notice my time is off a little bit. Then I will check the properties and see that it is no longer set to auto update. This has happened a half dozen times or so, darn gremlins..........

  21. I had my current PC built by someone else and they used my full name when installing Windows. Look at the attached screenshot. I cannot just rename that folder because it contains the system files. (or can I?) Does anyone know of a simple way I can do this without re-formatting and re-installing windows, or would that just be easier.

    ping?

    You are welcome. Now let me try to explain it. When you run a ping test, you instruct your PC to send out a packet for an echo request (or ping) to some other device on a network (this includes the Internet). It can be a server of any type or a router or some other active device. This device will receive that packet then resend it back to your PC. (not all device will respond, just like your router was instructed to not respond) Your PC will then calculate the round trip time for that packet. If it does not receive that packet back within a given set time period, then it will "time out" and show a lost packet. A longer than normal time period between round trips can be defined as latency.
