I would like to know what your upstream levels are. If they are maxed, that could very well be your issue. Does your modem tend to reset on its own occasionally? Also, what about packet loss? Try pinging testmy.net : ping testmy.net -n 50 BTW; here is a way to get your levels if you are interested: click here I have never tries this method myself, so it's up to you.

How about some info first: 1 - Are you running through a router, and do you have more than 1 PC connected? 2 - Have you run updated Antivirus and Spyware tests? 3 - Have you tried a different ethernet cable? 4 - Did you try the suggestions from this thread: http://www.testmy.net/forum/t-2097.0 Also, what brand of modem do you have? Try opening the diagnostic page: http://192.168.100.1 (<--just try clicking link for most modems) If it opens, paste the info from the Signal Level page back here.

I have heard good things about SA also. I think they are only around $50 each. http://www.scientificatlanta.com/products/consumers/webstar.htm

It was just a funny. Just trying to fire some people up

Best of luck with that, xyther, I've been off the crap for a few years. I watched a few friends loose every thing they had (including their health), that was enough to make me walk away..... Kids, DRUGS ARE A DEAD END - Trust us..

The jump from 22ms to 249ms pings looks like it's between Aus and Singapore... lis200, where is your Battlefield server located, Australia?

W Thomas, you said that Comcast only offers a Terayon modem in your area? Do you own the modem, or lease it. Just curious, the whole point of the Docsis protocol is interoperability, giving a customer choices and getting away from the old proprietary systems. I have heard of a couple system that only let their customers lease modems from them.

Good point, Swimmer. That is why you are a mod and I am a low life nothing. :haha: But that very well is a possibility darkkie. BTW, Swimmer, I did not realize darkkie posted this topic twice (tisk, tisk ); maybe you can merge them? edit: On a side note that doesn't really matter - 500th post /happy_bday.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':bday:' />:' />

Not a problem, and good luck getting cust service to even remotely understand your problem.

It looks like it jumps from 10ms pings to 84ms pings somewhere inside of AT&T's network.....

BTW, pathping test takes time, so let it run if you didn't already know this.

Probably was CA3LE :haha:

Never heard of the "Frozen Modem" idea... Maybe you should just run your RG-6, Ethernet and power cords into the freezer lol, and leave your modem in there. BTW, honestly never heard of your problem......

I believe member Dark_Matter is using this service: http://www.serverpronto.com/ One plan is 29.95 a month us$. I have seen $20 / month deals around, but I would have to look around. You could split the $ between your friends.

Best of luck to everyone in the path - let's hope it continues to loose strength. -

It looks like it must smell hideous... Put it out of its misery. -
I have read about using your gmail for on-line data storage before. Do you mind posting a guide on setting that up, ZeroOne? And, BTW, I also have 100 Gmail invites to give out (though I am surprised Gmail is still doing it that way).

I don't under(porn)stand what you mean? I just ran the Kaspersky free on-line scanner, and it found the last remnants of that virus. I have tried for 2 days to download a trial version of the full software, but their system never emailed the links or registration to me after I signed up. I'm guessing something is up on their end, I tried 2 different email addresses. And, cak46, I agree with you; now more than ever....

OK, now I have been converted, Kaspersky is worth paying for. My brother's computer has been hosed for a few days now (porn) and he can't explain why (porn). Both avast! and AVG found and supposedly fixed the Trojan problem, but it kept popping up. Re-ran avast! and AVG, both said the machine was clean. So I get home from work tonight and sit down, determined to get rid of the virus. The first thing I do is run Kaspersky's On-Line free virus scanner. It locates the two last files containing the virus that the others did not see. Files deleted, no more sign of the virus (so far). I'm liking Kaspersky today, thats for sure. BTW, my brother picked up this virus 1 day after (porn) I reformatted and re-loaded windows 2K for him. Also had avast! and Spy-Bot S&D loaded and running before I gave it back to him.

Cable modem experts I have theoretical question for you!
dn0 replied to ratchet's topic in General Discussion
I say you've got issues that the local techs need to take care of, but I remember your earlier posts stating how difficult it is to get something done in your area. You are correct about the 58dB being the max output on your modem. It may be transmitting 58 (max), but it may want to transmit at 62dB ideally, but it can't. If the amp is helping, I would worry more about the high transmit than the high receive level. Either way, the transmit levels should never fluctuate by 14+ dB like yours are, the receive levels, on the other hand, will fluctuate a few dB with the hot days and cool nights, that's normal. -
check out this ueber1337 gear! must have!
dn0 replied to resopalrabotnick's topic in General Discussion
Man, I remember all of that gear. Love the "Ultra portable cell phone; weighs in at a mere 11 pounds" My first mobile was a bag phone like that, had the 12 volt car package, and a big ole' magnetic antenna for the roof. Sweeeet... But, those things to this day work far better out in BFE than my phone now, obviously due to the 3 watt output compared to 500mW today. -
23k download speeds with comcast...and getting worse...
dn0 replied to jhaas's topic in Make it Faster...
Sorry it took me so long to get back. I do not believe you can control the bandwidth of the other PCs on your router with that software. You would need a router that is specifically designed to do this, and I believe there are a couple out there now that we lay people can reach, otherwise it is higher end equipment. As for running all connections through a server or proxy of some type, yes that is possible, but it may be cheaper and easier to look for a router/switch that can do the job. Here is a D-Link gaming router that might do the job, maybe someone on the board can answer that for us. It is around $149, but still cheaper than a seperate PC to do the job. http://games.dlink.com/products/?pid=370 $125 at Newegg: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16833127158 -
23k download speeds with comcast...and getting worse...
dn0 replied to jhaas's topic in Make it Faster...
Welcome to the forum Is the modem in the rental house next door, or at your house? What are your pings to your router (prob 192.168.1.1) and what are your ping times to your modem (usually 192.168.100.1).(I would ping these devices at the time the slow down is occuring) This may tell you if the problem is local or on the Comcast network.
