  1. WOW!! $200. bucks! . . .that sounds crazy, is that the only service there, I mean, you can't just connect using good ol' dial-up? . . .or do you own a business that absolutely has to be connected that way?
  2. A pulse of light has been stopped in its tracks with all its photons intact, reveal US physicists. In a vacuum, light travels at the phenomenal speed of 300,000,000 metres per second. Scientists can exploit the way that the electric and magnetic fields in light interact with matter to slow it down. Over the last few years, scientists have become masters of the light beam. Speeds of a few metres per second are now reached routinely in laboratories around the world. It is rather harder, however, to stop light completely and previous attempts have halted light but lost its photons in the process. http://www.newscientist.com/news/news.jsp?id=ns99994474 http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/sci/tech/3308109.stm
  3. In both the case of the IBM chip and ordinary glass, maybe the speed of the photon itself is not reduced? It appears to be slowed down from a straight, linear perspective. Maybe the substrates just alter the path of the photon, inducing it to move in a corkscrew pattern or the photons temporarily orbit the "holes" at a constant rate? Yes, this does slow the speed of light from point A to B, but the photon itself may remain moving at the speed of light.
  4. mrkcee; did this just start happening? Try PMing Cholla, he's pretty good at figuring out what might be wrong. . . .in the mean time, try some searches for "internet connection computer re-starting " or some variations of those.
  5. Here's some Registry tweaks, if your comfortable doing this. Just export the keys and save in some Registry Back-up folder in "My Documents" for back-up and enter the 'new' values in your Registry. By default Windows XP caches everything in the DNS cache service, both correct and faulty DNS lookups. To increase performance by eliminating the caching of faulty DNS lookups, change the following values from whatever their original values are to zero. [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESYSTEMCurrentControlSetServicesDnscacheParameters] "NegativeCacheTime"=dword:00000000 "NetFailureCacheTime"=dword:00000000 "NegativeSOACacheTime"=dword:00000000 This tweak will help web pages load faster, it has no real effect on download speeds, just helps your pc look up websites faster thereby speeding up how fast the page loads. HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESYSTEMCurrentControlSetServicesTcpipServiceProvider On the right > change these entries: (ALL values are HEXIDECIMAL) Class - 1 DnsPriority - 1 HostsPriority - 1 LocalPriority - 1 NetbtPriority - 1 Max your Internet Explorer's simultaneous downloads to 20 (default is 2) HKEY_CURRENT_USERSoftwareMicrosoftWindowsCurrentVersionInternet Settings] MaxConnectionsPer1_0Server"= REG_DWORD 0x00000014 (20) MaxConnectionsPerServer"= REG_DWORD 0x00000014 (20) Increase IoPageLockLimit (disk cache) Note- Use the following settings depending on your system RAM: 00020000 = 131072 KB (if RAM > 512 MB) *00010000 = 65536 KB (if RAM > 256 MB) < use this one if you have 512 MB of Memory - RAM 00008000 = 32768 KB (if RAM > 128 MB) 00004000 = 16384 KB (if RAM > 64 MB) 00002000 = 8192 KB (if RAM > 32 MB) 00001000 = 4096 KB (if RAM < 32 MB) HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESYSTEMCurrentControlSetControlSession ManagerMemory Management] "IoPageLockLimit"=dword:00010000 Optimize L2 Cache Detection (Manual) Note: Change the setting depending on the L2 Cache of your CPU. If you dont know the L2 cache of your CPU, use a freeware program like CPU-Z http://www.cpuid.com/cpuz.php 8192 KB = 00002000 4096 KB = 00001000 2048 KB = 00000800 1024 KB = 00000400 *512 KB = 00000200 256 KB = 00000100 [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESYSTEMCurrentControlSetControlSession ManagerMemory Management] "SecondLevelDataCache"=dword:00000200 These are just some of the tweaks I use. . .see if they help.
  6. IBM slows light, readies it for networking http://news.zdnet.com/IBM+slows+light,+readies+it+for+networking/2100-9584_22-5928541.html?part=rss&tag=feed&subj=zdnn IBM has created a chip that can slow down light. A number of companies and university researchers are currently tinkering with ways to replace the electronic components inside computers, which ferry signals with electrons, with optical technology. Optical equipment ferries data on photons, the smallest measure of light. Photons are far faster. More important, optical equipment generates less heat, curbing the growing problem of heat and power consumption. Control Light speed with alternate atmospheres. (Glass, Water) Carry data on various colors, various speeds. Bend light with alternate atmospheres, magnetic pull. Ditch 1's and 0's. replace with colors. Faster, cleaner, cooler data. Less heat. Bundle data in micro-flashes. Save in nano photo burns. Photons act as pixels but carry full programs instead of one pixel. welcome to the future.
  7. I used to have Comcast HS cable and tweaked it past it's cap, so when I went back to Dial-Up I just continued to tweak things. (some settings probably just remained the same in my Registry) . . .at first, I thought, am I just 'foolin' Windows ~ thinkin' it still thinks I'm connected on HS cable ~ lol. here's a link to a post I started; "New 'Dial-up' Speed Record" in "Show off your scores!" http://www.testmy.net/forum/index.php?topic=8475.0 :::.. 8. I took the MSN Speedtest(which is really CNET's Bandwidth meter) http://tech.msn.com/products/speedtest.armx and got this; 190.6 Kbps - You
  9. . . .maybe CA3LE should have added a site "hit counter", I'm sure it would be in the millions by now. . .I'm still waiting for the 'testmy...' tee-shirts. ~ lol
  10. . . .and ramdom is spelt ~ privational nihilism ~ Goddess tdawnaz, our you saying we got a date this Fry-day?
  11. You can download Cablenut_408_zipped.zip here > http://www.testmy.net/forum/index.php?action=dlattach;topic=1013.0;attach=64 and VanBurens_cablenut_settings_version_7_ALL_WIN_OS_AND_SAT.zip here > http://www.testmy.net/forum/index.php?action=dlattach;topic=1013.0;attach=2784 EDIT: How do you use cablenut? ~ just click on the.ccs file you want to try and it will load into CableNut Adjuster, then press "Save to Registry", then "Done" ~ then re-start your computer for the 'new' settings to take effect. For faster speeds I use Cable & DSL 512 128.ccs I think this is it(my settings on my C:Drive)
  12. . . .that's when our Imperium Lord(what's his name?) became the first member of the Empire. . . .and tbaker397, if you get it right ~ I'll smoke a big fat one ~ lol . . .and tdawnaz, if it wasn't for our nations institutional lack of respect for our right to privacy(ramdom UA's), I'ld probably be eating one of those 'far out' brownies right now!!
  13. I'll take a wild guess and say December 30, 2002, 06:41:11 AM.
  14. Welcome mrkcee; it is a neat site(if you like tweaking and sharing/reading experiences). Noticed your Test time (China Standard Time) , are you really testing from China? If so, that might explain some of your speed results. I 'seem' to get faster speed scores ~ using VanBuren's XP DSL low-end settings. Good ISP connect status , (but distance to the US test servers will effect your test scores, not to mention China's Internet filtering protocal, for lack of a better censurable peoples resolution, . . .if you are connecting from 'The Peoples Republic'?)
  15. O-Tay, I'm predicting this'll be my 200th post! ~ WOO HOO!!! "Almost famous!" ~ who came up with these. . .? . . .and, tdawnaz ~ I chose to stop smokin' the 'erb over 5 years ago, and drinkin' over 10 years ago. (that avatar does give me a strange 'contact high', though, and it represents my silent, but visible protest against 'mara-ha-wanna' laws in this country. I'm also definately in favor of medical marijuana use.) . . .so don't judge a member by their Avatar, . . .sometimes. j/k
  16. WOW. . .now, is this the master beta version or just another beta beta version?
  17. . . .OH, NO!!! ~ Now you know ~ but will the truth set us free! (by my sub-standard quantitive permutational filtering our 'active' members list would drop down to around 80 ~ OH, NO!!!)
  18. on: October 09, 2005,when we hit our 16000th member, about 5 pages back ~ http://www.testmy.net/forum/index.php?topic=8827.0 I said. . . "O-Tay, let's start predicting the 20000th Members date! I'm predicting Xmas eve 2005" ~ so I'm stuck with that! I was j/k about the active members, maybe. (some fast empirical permutational forum filtering stuff) . . .but your right, too, tdawnaz, maybe. (I'll work out some statistical anal-y-sis on that.) just re-member: pitbull481's offer that the "20000th member recieves a XBOX360 or PS3, Sony 42in LCD, and Sony Home Theater System."
  19. HEY Paschendale ; I'm off tomorrow(or it'll be today, when you read this ~ lol), and I'll check some of my settings, again. I still get good speeds on my C:Drive. Here are my C: Drive CableNut settings, also. :::.. Download Stats ..::: Connection is:: 169 Kbps about 0.2 Mbps (tested with 97 kB) Download Speed is:: 21 kB/s Tested From:: https://testmy.net/ (server2) Test Time:: Tue Nov 1 20:42:43 PST 2005 Bottom Line:: 3X faster than 56K 1MB download in 48.76 sec Diagnosis: Awesome! 20% + : 125.33 % faster than the average for host (nocharge.com) Validation Link:: https://testmy.net/stats/id-KHUE2BPCV . . .was also wondering if you can ping past your ISP? Cholla, nor myself can, that's why I was wondering.
  20. I'm just waiting for the Google Browser and OS(imagine the power of an on-line OS and a 100,000 Google Servers and all that memory at your finger tips, connected on a 100Mbps fiber optic system gateway) ~ just to blow microsoft and all the others out of the water!! ~ lol ~ I think it's coming.
  21. . . .yeah, having it set as my Home Page is a never ending story. ~ Love it , too!!
  22. I use Avant on my C:Drive and Maxthon on my E:Drive. Both have all the features I like. Avant's neat 'cause you can browse with very little interface and it's the fastest browser in the whole known universe. Maxthon's great with it's 30 some fast choices for search capabilities and has every other add-on imaginable.
  23. . . .maybe a good question would be ~ "What are you passing out tonight on 'All Beggars Night'? I'm freakin', cause I can't find the candy, 'cause the 'ol lady's not home yet! She probably told me. . .but I can't find it.
  24. Paschendale ; If you start using CableNut, try VanBuren's(up-dated) settings for Xp, but try using the low end of DSL settings. . .curious to see if that might help. Good ISP connection speeds ~ that's almost Cap on dial-up. Good luck.
