  1. Yea I'm going to, would it be worth it to upgrade the antenna on it? Have you had any sucess doing this, or is it just not worth it?
  2. I'm thinking bestbuy right now, but its 60. I could get it from provantage for 55 with shipping and it would get here in 1 day.
  3. Yea I believe that hughes bought out direcway and is ditching the name.
  4. Do you know of any computer stores that carry the WHR-G54S? I don't feel like paying 20 bucks for overnight but would like it asap.
  5. Looks like I am going to be as I can't find an older firmware for my current router which seems to be limiting download speeds to roughly 3.3. Without the router I'm getting 5.5. I think I'll order the router tomorrow and luckily I'm off next week so I can mess around with it, I just hope I don't brick it. The process is pretty easy right? Sounds like I have to use that ftp program to upload the image to the router, then restart or something and clear the nvram, which can be done by pressing the restart button at startup with the g54s. As far as normal vs mini, what do you recommend? I'm assuming mini has less features, maybe it runs quicker?
  6. I've been browsing the dd-wrt forum and from what brainslayers post I have seen he seems to recommend the whr-g54s the highest, higher than its counterpart for 20 dollars more because the g54s has a built in cpu cooler.
  7. Yea I'm familiar with updating firmware on routers as I just did at the beginning of the week with my current router the zyxel p-334wt to a newer one. Now my speeds have been suffering and I'm thinking its less of road runners fault and more of the routers as hooked directly up to the modem me speeds are much better. I've been looking for an older firmware to upload but can't find any. Oh well, I've been thinking of getting this buffalo for awhile anyways. I think I heard you need to tcfpt (something like that) the firmware to the buffalo instead of using the upgrade function with the gui as the buffalo uses encrypted firmware or something.
  8. Double angry 5! My interenet is so poor right now that when I'm trying to talk on t he phone it cuts in and out, can hardly hear the person. This can't be vonage's fault as it always worked flawlessly before, but ever since my interenet speeds started deteriorating the calls did as well.
  9. I hardly get speeds like that wirelessly on my home network .
  10. Will the whr-g54s work with dd-wrt firmware? I'm thinking of getting this because my current wireless router doesn't support dd-wrt and has a bug where internet browsing slows down to a crawl when transferring files from one wifi computer to another. How easy is it to flash dd-wrt firmware on a router, can I go back to the original if I mess up? Any more info on this router and dd-wrt is greatly appreciated. Also what makes this router special that it can get 125Mbps? This is what it says on their website: * When operating in High-Speed Mode™, this Wi-Fi device achieves an actual wireless network data transfer rate of up to 34.1Mbps, which is the equivalent data transfer rate of a system following 802.11g protocol and operating at a signaling rate of 125 Mbps. Couldn't a normal g router get 34Mbps because its up to 54Mbps?
  11. Just got off the phone with an earthlink rep who is clueless. They don't know of an upgrade, maintenacne or any slow down at all. So I asked them if they could tell me about my flaps and they laughed at me and had no idea what a flap was, neither do I, but they should. Would've been nice for all customers to receive an email, or a letter saying that they would be doing something during these dates so speeds might be slow or something.
  12. It could be that the modem doesnt support gig speeds and you have the gig nic set to gig speeds and not autosensing. Also when you are changing the ports for the modem and network restart your computer if you arent allready.
  13. I've got a custom water cooling system, but I think it was a little overkill. All in all it was a great learing experience for water cooling though, but I've heard of people keeping overlocking opterons pretty cool on air, but then again I was going for dead silent as my comptuer ison 24/7 in my room.
  14. What would be my best bet for some nas on my network? I've looked at some of the ones on newegg that hold like 2 hardrives and have 10/100 lan ports but they all seem pretty slow from the reviews. From your experience with these products are they slower than have the drive shared on a computer wired to the network? I have an athlon xp 2400 motherboard and hardrive laying around but I would just have to buy some ram for it. Will I get better speeds with an actual computer vs. the network storage box?
  15. Swimmer how much did you pay for the 330? Did you get it from ebay?
  16. There are always so vague with what they're doing. And my speeds continue to suck: Your connection is: 2310 Kbps or 2.31 Mbps You Downloaded at: 282 kB/s You are running: 40 times faster than 56K and can Download 1 megabyte in 3.63 second(s) Member Ident: Username:richcornucopia CompID:64027127210 Test Time:: 2006/03/29 - 6:06pm Test Browser and OS info: Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 6.0; Windows NT 5.1; en) Opera 8.51 Test ID: 3KTR4IEPN (if this is a screenshot go to testmy.net to see if this is fake) Diagnosis ^info^: May need help : running at only 54.02 % of your hosts average (mindspring.com) This was tested from a 2992 kB file and took 10.61 seconds to complete Your connection is: 267 Kbps or 0.27 Mbps You Uploaded at: 33 kB/s You are running: 5 times faster than 56K and can Upload 1 megabyte in 31.03 second(s) Member Ident: Username:richcornucopia CompID:64027127210 Test Time:: 2006/03/29 - 6:07pm Test Browser and OS info: Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 6.0; Windows NT 5.1; en) Opera 8.51 Test ID: O61JK4YHT (if this is a screenshot go to testmy.net to see if this is fake) Diagnosis ^info^: Looks Great : 0.75 % faster than the average for host (mindspring.com) This was tested from a 386 kB file and took 11.85024 seconds to complete
  17. If money does become an issue you could save some on the motherboard. This is the one I have http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16813138264, and is a very good board all around. Its stable for overclocking, I've got my opteron 148 at 2.9ghz, the onboard video is decent, and the price is great for all the features it has. It had everything I needed and was the cheapest motherboard I was looking at so I went with it and am glad I did .
  18. Wow thats looks sweet . Good find swimmer.
  19. We get it jeff, no need to post that same response in every board...
  20. What happened was the barb (the part that the host goes onto/over) cracked so it started leaking. This was a barb of the pump which I mounted outside the case as I had no room in the case because I put the radiator in it. So it wasn't much of a problem because it just leaked on some paper towel which I had under it as a preventative measure. I'm pretty sure the only reason it cracked was me being a bit too forceful when moving it or something, idk, but whats good now is that its fixed and the new barb I got was less than a dollar . Maybe when I get home tonight I can post some pictures of it.
  21. Lol, since this thread was made I've had no problems. Keeps my overclocked opteron nice and chilly. Whats also nice is I only have on 120mm quiet fan running on low so my system is dead silent. For those taking their first leap into watercooling I definitely recommend an all in one kit as it will have everything you need and instructions (if you bother to read them).
