  1. Holy Shit! How did he live through that? Freakin amazing! I wonder what was going through his mind as he sat there looking around at the wreckage and then realized he wasn't dead...
  2. So while Cable is a little , we should demand extravagant things for the website Just kidding....I know the feeling of having your brains a little scrambled. Hope you recover quickly My dad would be 6ft under if not for a helmet. He went into the trees doing about 55mph, and basically it disintegrated his helmet, but somehow left his head intact. No reason to not wear equipment..Unless you want to turn in your life insurance..
  3. March 11, 1958 http://www.americanheritage.com/articles/magazine/ah/2000/5/2000_5_50.shtml I doubt they had the safety precautions we have now...Imagine that falling through your roof while browsing TMN
  4. Welcome to the wonderful world of not having to worry about how many people are on the network!

  6. Do you have fios? If you do, and you are using your own modem, make sure it is capable of handling the speed. We have the 30/5, and my Linksys router could not handle it. If the router is old, I suspect you don't. If it is cable, bypass the router, and see if you experience any problems.
  7. You won't be disappointed We have had it for almost 2 years now, and have yet to either lose service, or have a slow down. I've only had to reset the router once, and I believe that was due to the power going on and off like 5x in 10 seconds(good old LIPA).
  8. Good find! IMHO, we F#@&ed up with Afghanistan when we dropped them like a bad habit after the Soviets pulled out. Hopefully we are not about to do the same thing again....We armed them, trained them, funded them, and then kicked them to the curb. Then spent lots of cash to try and buy back the stuff we sold them so it wouldn't come back and bite us in the ass.. We should have finished what we started after 9/11. Instead of fighting and winning one war, we are holding on by a thread to 2 of them...And considering the political condition in Pakistan(nothing like a country with nukes that has an unstable gov't), we should be worried more about Afghanistan....IMHO, its just a clusterF#@& waiting to happen all over again. For anyone who is interested, there is book called "Ghost Wars", that follows events from the Soviet invasion of Afghanistan, up until 9/11...A very interesting read....
  9. Your MTU could be wrong, if you had cable previously, and made no changes.. Go here, and run the optimizer. http://www2.verizon.net/help/fios_settings/optimizer/ ...Reboot, and then retry the applications that were giving you problems...Also run another speed test.
  10. Wow, I quit trying to help.. But, I will say this.. Network speed, and Internet speed are totally different, and MANY routers CANNOT HANDLE FIOS(your intial post stated you were using 2 routers)...Yes they can tranfer over the network at full speed, but they will not give you full internet speed..Trust me, I have close friends of the family that work for Verizon, specifically FiOs service...You cannot use any old router for 30/5.. My questions were to help others who have more experience, understand what exactly you were asking.. Your initial question gave minimal info, and I was trying to get a clearer picture of what you are doing... My suggestion of getting a larger switch was just that, a freakin suggestion...Many people don't mind spending a few bucks...I mean really, how freakin expensive could it be when you split the cost 7 ways...But again, I was not say to go buy it, it was a suggestion.. I'm done with this thread.... Can someone give me some TMN bucks for the time I wasted typing in here that I will never get back..
  11. I think its a communication issue between the switches.... One larger switch would probably cure that...One large switch between 7 guys shouldn't cost too much..
  12. Ahh, I see... Not sure, I'll have to think about this one... Can you tell me the exact chain... For example... Verizon ----->---->Switch 1 ----> "A" PC's Router ----->---->Switch 2 -----> "B" PC's If I understand you correctly, If you transfer files from "A" PC's to "A" PC's, it is ok. Your problem arises when you transfer from "A" PC's to "B" PC's...Correct? You get full speeds while surfing/downloading, but across the network you have problems(if you have to pass through both switches and the router)? Does the verizon router have Wi-Fi? If so, you could use wireless cards..They are relatively cheap now...Just an idea.
  13. So it's more of a network problem than an ISP problem? Just wondering why you need the switches....Do you have more than 4 pc's connected?
  14. I'm not sure exactly what you are doing, but if I understand correctly, you have other routers other than the verizon router installed? Most likely, if you are using other routers, they cannot handle the speed.
  15. Glad to hear it worked out If you do continue to have any problems, have them re-check the box they installed. Our neighbors had it installed, and couldn't get full speeds, and they eventually figured out it was a problem within the verizon box(the one they installed in the house was defective)..Verizon replaced the box, and they are cruisin now.. Of everyone I have known to have it installed, all have gotten full speeds 24/7...The only problem, was my neighbor, and it was solved quickly.
  16. Been there... I believe I used to use that same analogy as well.. I just called them everyday, when the speeds dropped like a rock...I used to get really slow speeds though....We had the 10/1 at the time, and I was lucky to get 2mb most days.. I saved all my speed tests, and had them check at the pole several times...Each time they could not get anywhere close to full speed...Plus the fact that my modem used to take up to 20 minutes to sync. Eventually I called a supervisor, explained how long the problem had been going on, showed him all the speed tests, and the long list of service calls. Eventually they refunded us for I think 5 months of service.. There really is nothing you can do...They oversold the node, like they did here, and now you are pretty much screwed, unless they decide to split the node, which they won't do. That is the reason I HATE OOL. They LIE!!!! Up to 30mb is their way out of actually providing it..I still believe laws need to be made for such cases. I can't understand how you can advertize one thing, give another, and get away with it..IMO, it's legal fraud. It's one of the downfalls of being on a shared network.. I also love the fact that OOL kept insisting it was both of the PC's in the house, and not their service, but some modern miracle must have taken place, because with FiOs, all pc's get 30mb 24/7/365. Blunted, pm me if you want to run that line check...

  22. It does the same thing, minus the error..Just sits @ "Forwarding to results page... one moment" It's done it for a while now... I believe I have tried it right after a re-install, and it does the same thing..Not quite sure why..
