  1. I really don't know exactly what your issue is. But I'm sure that you can feel there's an issue there... otherwise you wouldn't be looking into it. To be honest with you, I'm still trying to understand how my test is able to detect all that it does. Many times I've seen people that have an issue with their cable modem. They score low on my tests but nowhere else. I'd really like to know exactly why that is. With a deeper understanding maybe I can tell the user exactly what their issues are. I just know that it works. ... just because I wrote every single line of TestMy's code doesn't mean I fully understand how it does what it does. It seriously surprises me, often. What kind of modem do you have? How old is it? We've seen ALLOT of people here that describe the same stuff you are, they swap out their cable modem and problem solved. You may want to look into your modem itself. What I would do is go buy one at Best Buy (or somewhere that has a good return policy)... set it up, if it doesn't improve... return it. -- try directly connecting the modem to your best machine first to make sure it's not your router. When you get the new modem also test it directly to your best machine before you set it up on your network. REMEMBER, you must completely power down your modem before it will connect to a new device (e.g. you computer or router), it remembers the MAC address of the device it's connected to.
  2. Have either of you tried TCP Optimizer? see this post >>
  3. ... Hey spudler_t, it's not TestMy.net... Testing as I would expect. Looks like you may have a problem.
  4. Welcome samanthar! First, that test in your router is flash based. Please read >> https://testmy.net/ip...m-speedtestnet/ -- the same should be true for any test that uses flash protocol. If your results vary between mirrors you may have an isolated routing issue that you may want to bring up with your provider. Keep visiting!
  5. Welcome! First, there can be overhead. Second, how is the cisco router testing? Where is it testing to? I can also almost guarantee you that it's not testing through your browser. You may be in your browser but it's not actually using your browser. There is most likely a 3rd party application handling the test. Like Macromedia Flash or Sun Java... right? Tests that run that way are a poor judge of your browser... and as we've found many other issues as well. Other speed tests seem to not notice a problem unless it's on the Providers end. TestMy takes everything into account and is the only Internet speed test online that works this way. There is no layer between the test and your browser. TestMy's servers are also unbiasedly placed on the backbone of the Internet. I believe this makes for a more accurate depiction of your connection speed. Try testing with one of the mirrors, use these buttons on the speed test pages. Testing with the mirrors can help you see if you're having a routing issue to the main server. ... the results you get here can't be compared to results you get with any other speed test. Read Why Do My Results Differ From Speedtest.net? for a little more insight. That information applies to any Ookla speed test... but if they have to adjust I assume any flash speed test has to. Besides the adjustments they admit they make, as I said before... there's allot that they simply can't test because of the protocol they've chosen to use. ... things are different here. ...please help me by telling your friends about TestMy.net - this spreads by word-of-mouth only.
  6. Still happening after router and modem reset... it's intermittently happening now. 5 minutes later I'll give it 24 hours...
  7. It has to be the router... happening now in one room and not in the other.
  8. Well, now it's running great. Next time the issue arises I'll do what I always do... reset the router and modem and it will be fine. I couldn't take my network down when the problem was happening. I was just hoping that someone was about to provide insight. Very likely could have been the issue.
  9. Now it seemed to lock... then right at the end of the first test it sped up. Ran two more tests, third one I got my full speed. Annoying. I've seen it do this before briefly but it always returns to normal before I can figure it out.
  10. Maybe my own forum can help me... for the millionth time. I rarely post questions but it's still taught me allot of what I know. The past few days my modem or router seems to be locking at around 14Mbps. I feel like it's using one channel or something. Here's the query https://testmy.net/st...=3&l=25&q=CA3LE ... see all of the 14Mbps scores... almost exactly the same, every time. Taken on different computers too. (bet most of you didn't know you could combine two of the same type into one share image, huh?) Now I should probably take my own advice and connect the modem directly to first eliminate the router as a variable. But I've got too many things going on right now to take my network down. Plus, it really seems to me to be the modem... I've done this stuff for a long time, at this point I can feel where the problem is... that's my only way to describe that, lol. Why is it doing that? I thought maybe someone else knew what I was talking about and could save me from having to troubleshoot it. I can get my connection speed, or close to it on usenet. But it takes forever to ramp up. On usenet, to get to ~6000 kB/s or 46Mbps I had to download 275MB+ of information. e.g. Usually, I go from zero to full speed pretty much instantly. (giganews) What do you think? HAHAHA ... and as always, speedtest.net has NO IDEA that there is even a problem. Even though there is OBVIOUSLY a problem. Seriously guys, help me get the word out... the evidence is so stacked against their tests, why does everyone use them!!?? AHHH!
  11. Check out this post... I don't just think it will help you, I know it will. -D
  12. Welcome to the site RfrankNRTC, thanks for the input. I really appreciate it. With the automatic test you can also set minimum and maximum sizes now. So now you have even more control over that stuff. Keep visiting and please pass the word along.
  13. Remember, if the test is testing through a 3rd party application... like Macromedia Flash, which is what all the other major speed tests use e.g. speedtest.net, speakeasy.com ... all of the ookla speed tests. It's by passing any issues you may have with browser configuration. TestMy.net uses only your browser, so it's more sensitive to issues like that... as well as others. Many connection issues seem to escape the other speed tests... but these people have more than enough evidence that they have an issue. Like mudmanc4 said, I offer multiple locations, so if routing is ever an issue it will be evident by trying the mirrors. If you get around the same, crappy score on all the servers then you have something you should look into.
  14. Because of the technology they use there are limitations to the accuracy of those tests. This is a very common question and problem that we often get asked about here. Please read >> https://testmy.net/ip...m-speedtestnet/ Thanks, I hope you like TestMy.net - CA3LE
  15. Yeah, I'm kinda generically using the X axis... it's being used to display extra information instead of time.
  16. Alright, I had to visit... think and revisit a couple of times but it should be all hashed out. Should work great for you guys... let me know if it doesn't - CA3LE
  17. Okay, never mind I took care of it.. now I'm off to dinner. I'll hash out some extra details later. Let me know about any bugs
  18. I just realized that some people were wanting to enter a minimum size as well. I'll work that in as well... off to dinner now
  19. Hey esalcedo, I'm a man of my word. I said I would rock this out for you when I got back to work... I just got done adding that feature so I wanted to let you know. Please re-visit the Automatic Speed Test page I think that you'll find it does what you're looking for now. ~NJoy! A related topic that helped push me to add this quicker... https://testmy.net/ip...362#entry333362
  20. Yes... I know. I'm kinda crazy... but I worked that up for you already. You can now select the maximum sizes and granted that there are no bugs it should stay within the parameters your set. Check it out at >> https://testmy.net/auto I think you'll find it does exactly what you were looking for. Please let me know if you spot anything buggy or weird. ~NJoy! Note that the upload test isn't as dynamic as the the download test with the way it draws it's files. So it's not going to give you the exact size, rather the closest match it under the max size you set. (something non-critical that's being addressed by version 13)
  21. Hey jdpalmer, welcome to TestMy.net I'm actually on the drawing board with that right now. A few people have asked me for this. I should have those controls built in... heck, I may be able to get it done tonight. I think I've pretty much got it all built in there I just need to give users access to be able to control it that way. I'll let you know what I come up with. I've gone over it in my head, pretty much written... shouldn't take me too long.
  22. This is why I still use my Logitech MX5500. I like the feel of a regular keyboard. But as I get more used to the thin keyboard on the iMac I don't find myself on on my mini using the MX5500. Although, I do have a very unorthodox typing method... I think it came about first because I didn't like typing the way teachers wanted me to. Second, I think it was my natural way of protecting myself from carpal tunnel... both of my hands use both sides of the keyboard, sometimes, hard to explain. I also look at the keys allot. It's a weird style but I can type 60-90wpm that way and well over 100wpm in programming... home row style I can only achieve 35-45wpm. I think that the new thin apple keyboard has made me faster actually. Not at first but after I got used to it. The keys are more sensitive but also precise at the same time... you'd think it would be easy to hit the wrong key but it isn't. Sometimes I feel my finger brush the wrong key but check and it seems to never register. You have to hit the key just right with purpose and they do with without interfering with regular typing. I also seem to flow without having to lift my fingers as much. I always thought the new apple keyboards were beautiful in design but I'm starting slowly I'm starting to favor overall. ... ideally my next input device would just connect to my mind. Screw typing!
  23. ... Logitech doesn't even provide side profile pictures so I'm not even sure if there is a added benefit of being thin or something. Sounds like we agree then. STUPID! If I was going to go spend $60 on a Mac keyboard... sorry Logitech, I'm still getting the Apple Keyboard. Do you think Steve Jobs ever thought, "Hummm, for this new keyboard... should I spend the extra money on a solar panel that makes no sense or build it out of a solid piece of precision Aluminum..."
  24. I was pulling a link off Logitech's website and noticed a solar keyboard. http://www.logitech....4?WT.ac=ps|8604 Which is fine and dandy... but now they need to make one for programmers that run on caffeine and insomnia since our keyboards don't really see the light of day. ... seriously though, I kinda think it's dumb. How often do you change your batteries on your keyboard anyway? My fingers are constantly tapping away and I've only used about 3-4 sets of batteries in the last 12 months... seems like more of a gimmick than a truly useful feature. What do you guys think?
