I'd look into that... the program is just calling it how it sees it. For some reason you're not getting a clean connection to those locations. Funny that you got a better connection to Amsterdam than Washington D.C. I corrected the selection on that page. Thanks. Thank you ... and you're welcome!

I'm curious to know too. Remember, to route to Amsterdam you're going to be routed through more providers. So the test here will be a better test of your providers peering. (testing at speedtest.net on the Amsterdam server) That test only took like half a second so they're obviously not testing with enough data to be accurate over there. ... the server is more than capable of testing your connection. Symmetric gigabit. I know that you weren't questioning that but I wanted to make sure that was understood. Also, the test system mirrors what I have running in the United States. You've got some bottleneck in there. I'm curious to see other members scores on that server. On that Virgin Media connection, how often do you see close to 100Mbps in the real world? What about 60Mbps?

Hey Sean, How long has it been like that? I wouldn't worry about letting them know, there could have been a fiber cut or something and their having to temporarily route too much traffic through one pipe. Chances are, they know about it. I've had similar issues that took months to resolve. Did you know that TestMy.net has a server in Washington D.C. also, there is a button on the test pages to change your default server... Or go to http://dc.testmy.net --- visiting that page will change the server for you.

That'd be sweet dude. As long as you come in at the right price. I'll PM you. It's the standard 13.3" model... I have to take open it up to get the serial. After I updated it to 10.6.7 the serial doesn't show in the OS anymore. arrrrgh matey! Pretty sure there was only one model back then, this is one of the OG Macbooks

It can be measured and quantified... just not by their own speed test. I agree, it is a scam. This is why I've continued to build this over the years, I want to inform consumers. Their scale says 12 oranges... but my scale that you snuck into the store says you only got 5. Since you, by your own admission, have never seen those speeds you have to agree then that their scale is wrong. (I'm going to keep rolling with the analogy, okay) It's sad, you should be able to trust your 'grocers' scale. But sometimes you need to verify, this is what TMN is here for. I think that people should just skip the extra step and go right for the third party. ...you see, I stand to gain nothing by lying to you about your speeds. If my results aren't trusted... I no longer have a benchmark. It used to be that if you called tech support, to any North American ISP.. there was a very good chance that they would send you here. Not anymore, ISPs that have something to hide have retrained their support staff to send people to ONLY their speed tests. So, what... is Comcast blaming the ENTIRE internet for your slow speeds? You get slow speeds everywhere except their speed test, sorry... that's fishy. I can smell it through the computer even. Disgusting and hardly anyone knows about this stuff, they usually take their ISPs word for it. People figure, "They're a huge company, they know what they're talking about..." --- uuuh, no they don't. OR, they do and they're knowingly scamming people. I think that they HAVE to know that it's BS... but I like to hope that they're actually misinformed, good people. "TestMy.net ... your ISP hates us because we tell you the truth!" Please help by telling others about this site. Hopefully we can eventually make a difference in the quality of the World Internet. BlackKitty, what kind of modem do you have?

welcome mytest...i..cles ... hummm, I never thought I'd welcome 'mytesticles' to my own website. But, oh well. So, the problem you most likely have is the account that your trying this under doesn't have administrative privileges. I'm pretty certain this is your problem. Your probably logged in using a standard account so Windows doesn't give you that option. Let me know if this was the case please. -D

Welcome to TestMy.net hoanimas! https://testmy.net/auto is where you need to go to get started. Here's a video I just made for you to show you what to do. I recommend that you refrain from using the connection during the test. You'll get the most accurate results if you do it that way.

So, we finally broke something on our old Macbook. The display. Took 5 years to break something and it's still not Apple's fault. This is a late 2006 model and it's still a completely awesome laptop. (I have upgraded it a bit though) I would rather pay a couple hundred bucks and fix it... can you say that about any PC laptop made around the same time, I don't think so. I was wondering if you knew of or could help me find a good, trustworthy place to get a new display from. I've found some from Google search but maybe someone that reads this may know of a place. Do you know if you can get something like this directly from Apple? Hopefully without paying so much that it's not worth it... because like I said, it's still an awesome laptop despite it's age. I guess if it costs too much we could hook a keyboard and monitor up to it and use it as a stationary computer. Thanks!

My Desktp is giving me headache with connection
CA3LE replied to Disobedience's topic in Networking and Hardware
Why thank you... So you have one computer that's wireless and one that's wired? The wireless is working fine but your wired connection isn't? I too think that it has to do with an address conflict. If the wired computer tries to use an address that's already taken you'll have problems. You should however get a message telling you about the conflict. To troubleshoot this, first make sure that no computers are connected to the router. Leave your modem in place if you've established an internet connection and know that's working. Then connect just the wired computer. If you're still having an issue, then the problem runs deeper. Realize that it could be as easy as a fouled port on the router... so also try using a different port, if you have one open. Sometimes the quickest, easiest thing to do is reset your equipment to factory defaults. If you don't know how to do this just provide your router model number and we'll provide instructions for you. -
Just don't worry about it... if you really want to I can merge the accounts. But since you don't have very much forum activity yet I don't think it's necessary. The broadband.gov test is also a flash based Ookla test... therefor you can put that in the same category as speedtest.net --- it's made by the same people. Off the subject but someone as MSNBC recently misquoted me saying that I thought the FCC testing was sound. Totally was taken out of context. I actually should have been quoted saying something like, "Some of their techniques are sound but with flawed test methodology the information there can't be trusted." -- I let it go because of the amount of quality traffic they sent me. He pretty much used me to write what he wanted, I have email proof of this from our conversations... I know now to watch my words when I'm talking to the press about anything. Because they'll twist your words on you. I love how all the negative information I gave was omitted. What's their agenda? But, that's another subject all together.

D.C. was down a little bit ago... but service was just restored. Did some system updates and for some reason it completely crashed the server on reboot. That server has never been down since I turned it on. First time for everything... it's cool now. BlackKitty, try the DC server like Triran suggested. Navigating to http://dc.testmy.net will change the default to DC for you or click the button on the screenshot that was posted ... let's make sure you're having the same problem over there too.. that eliminates many routing issues.

Here is my result on Cox.net in Phoenix Arizona to Dallas, TX across the country to Washington D.C. If I can do it, you should be too. Especially since my host has direct peering with Comcast, 60+ Gbps of direct peering. ... this is why I don't think the problem will be found in your route. Most likely your modem, router, NIC or settings... something local. But I could easily be wrong.

WELCOME! I'd like to encourage you to read my legitimacy page and Why do my speeds differ from speedtest.net? What's your Operating System? Also, you must be seeing poor speeds elsewhere to question their results, right? MANY providers use speedtest.net's service and I don't think any of them even realize how poor the test is. According to their own admission they doctor the results. They are making adjustments for an unknown variable! How is that scientific? Their test looks pretty but I believe that testmy.net has a superior methodology. Many common issues aren't detected by that test but are very obvious when you test here. I do things differently. I'm sure that if Comcast would love to help if they were given the correct information. The call center people have been told to send people there, it's not their fault... it's the fault of whoever told them to do that. I can say this with certainty, if you're in North America and you can't pull your speeds here... you have a problem. My servers are very well connected and if Comcast or any ISP tells you any different... you need to question them. Ask the community... ask the countless people that have relied on this service for so many years. One thing that may help you is TCP Optimizer -- especially if you're using Windows XP. I'm guessing with an i7 you're running Windows 7... let me know. We'll try to help. run pathping testmy.net or mtr testmy.net from the command prompt. And return those results please -CA3LE

This is how to share your speed test scores here, these instructions work on any website or forum not just TestMy. Sharing your average and max speeds are all covered in this video. Note that there is also a button for exporting to CSV (excel / open office document). Also, if you filter your results (e.g. by identifier, date, days.. etc) the resulting share image and links will reflect the filtered results. Enjoy! This was made by request from Mario!

Closest back to back / Most consistent speed
CA3LE replied to i2d | ScruFFy |'s topic in Show off your speed
Welcome to the site, please read this rule If that's your true speed... why can you only pull ~45Mbps here. ... here's a 186Mbps result 1300+ miles from the server. -
Thanks everyone, Yeah, it would be crazy if she was born today... because she was conceived on the same day as me too (Valentines Day). Exactly 30 years after I was conceived and born, that would be pretty nuts. ... she is late by 4 days right now, so it could easily happen. Thank you for the birthday wishes, I can't believe I'm 30. Another decade wiser. Luckily I seem to age slowly so I should look like I'm still in my twenties for years to come.

Dang, that sucks. Well, you bring up key-logging. If you think that's possible, you may be screwed. If your Mom has been logging your keystrokes and she's gone in and changed your passwords you should be able to do a password request from the place you're trying to log into. Unless she was smart enough to also change the email address and other account information needed to reset the password... then, well... maybe start up some new games because she's got you in 'check' with that one... 'check mate' if she supplied the credit card info used to pay for membership (e.g. World of Warcraft). I feel sorry for you. That sucks that your Mom doesn't trust you. If she did log your keystrokes like that, SHAME ON HER! Seriously, I don't care if she's your parent. It violates your privacy! And I don't care how young you are, if you're old enough to use a computer you're old enough to have computer privacy. Parents... Block sites or keywords if you have to but DON'T LOG YOUR KIDS. Give them the same respect with their computer usage as you would with a diary. ... if the kid can't be trusted on the computer, take it away... but DON'T violate their trust by logging keystrokes.

You can share your speeds on facebook already but it's not on the front page. Under your results page click "share" next to the score you want to share, then on that page click 'facebook share'. Is that what you mean? Or are you talking about doing something different?
