Saguaro Cactus Cell Tower / Camouflage Cell Towers
CA3LE replied to CA3LE's topic in General Discussion
That's a good question. I haven't gone right up to it yet so I don't know for sure. But I really doubt it. First, needles wouldn't really make it more camouflage... you'd never really see that much detail unless you were right up on it (goes for a real saguaro too). So I think adding needles to it would be a waste of resources, I'm sure the designers felt the same way. It also could be an added hazard to anyone that needed to work on it (if they were sharp). I'll have to actually go up to it next time so I can get some closeups... see what it's made of. I'm pretty sure it's constructed out of steel and has no needles... but I'm really not 100% sure... next time I drive by I'll update this thread. -
Saguaro Cactus Cell Tower / Camouflage Cell Towers
CA3LE replied to CA3LE's topic in General Discussion
I don't think it will bother them... if it does they'll just stay away from it... as they would with any radio tower. -
He hasn't taken any tests under his username yet... if you click 'Test Results by IP" you can see the tests taken before he signed up. (only mods and admins can do this) When you click that link it converts the IP to the connection ID and forwards you to the correct results. If you share the link back to the forum make sure that you share the URL in the browser address bar NOT the link you click because that contains the users IP address. In this case, the address is https://testmy.net/compID/1604379535977

Just want to wish all the Dads out there a Happy Fathers Day!

I've noticed a few different types of camouflage cell towers out there but I think this one takes the cake. As some of you know, I live in Phoenix Arizona... in the Sonoran Desert. Now, I've see palm tree and pine tree cell towers but a 50'+ saguaro cactus is a first... or maybe I've seen a hundred of them and just didn't notice. I just know it's pretty cool. They're building this around the corner from me and the scaffolding is still up and they have it open, although they did have it closed the first time I saw it and I thought they were doing something to a real cactus. But then I thought, wait a minute... it looks a little too perfect. A saguaro that large should have a bunch of holes in it from birds and critters. I realized it was fake then a few days later they opened it up so now you can really tell what it is. I'll update this thread once they take down the scaffolding and close it back up. This is much more stealthy than the pine trees and palm trees I've seen but obviously this is the only place where they work. Fun fact, the Sonoran Desert is the only place in the world where you'll see the saguaro cactus. I think it's funny when you watch old westerns and they obviously have Monument Valley as a backdrop... but then you see saguaro cacti everywhere. ...uuuuhh, 1950's hollywood, you need to check your facts.

I kinda hope it's a little bit of a wait.. I'm still perfectly happy with what I have. I can't imagine an extra 10 million pixels... ridiculous.
-
By the way... my 27" iMac can only do 2560x1440 - amazing to think of all my pixels plus 1.5 million pixels crammed into 15.4"... just crazy. (I did the math, 41% more pixels than a 27" iMac, seriously) -- I'll be getting a new iMac when they get a 27" or larger Retina iMac, now that will be INSANE resolution.
-
That's even sexier on the inside. Must suck to be a person that just got the old macbook pro minus Retina. Because that's a HUGE visual upgrade. I'd be in line right now trying to do an exchange if I was that guy... The difference between those displays is like going from a 12" monochrome CRT to a 21+" LCD, night and day. .... finally, pixels are becoming a thing of the past.

I like the latest Chrome and Firefox. They really get the job done.

K, all done. Took me longer than expected. Sorry about the downtime.

This is being extended, waiting on a process to complete before I can execute.

At around 1am TestMy.net will undergo some scheduled maintenance. I need to move all of the database information to a larger partition. To do this properly I need to lock all of the databases during the transfer. I could do them individually and avoid the downtime. ...but sometimes it's like a bandaid on your hairy leg... do it fast and it will only hurt for a second... or pull it off slow and try to go strand by strand... still hurts and for longer. I say, just rip it off! Hopefully no more than 15 minutes of downtime but it could be an hour. Between 1am and 2am (GMT -7) (4am to 5am EST)

You're still getting results... but they aren't being logged? Send me a screenshot of the results page... does it log correctly when you do single tests or non-auto tests?

Happy Memorial Day! ... I was sleeping most of the day... yaaaaawn!

Does this site remains my test history saved in the data base?
CA3LE replied to eteure's topic in General Discussion
I keep a log of every result indefinitely, members who were registered when I started logging in 2005 have a log of every test they've taken. People who tested anonymously also still have their scores recorded, going back to 2005. My account is a good example of a long history of results >> https://testmy.net/stats/?&t=u&y=d&l=2000&q=CA3LE ISP history is also being stored indefinitely. But for hosts with over 25,000 results I only show the most recent. This speeds up query time. In the future there will be a broader search type that will show the providers complete history. -
Yeah, I've been working. The old cut and paste method was incompatible with some new stuff I've added so I had to take it down. But I rewrote it today so it's back in action. Let me know if you have any problems. -- thanks for visiting, tell your friends! -D

There's such thing as dial-up still. lol j/k That's cool, have you actually used it?

What does your provider have to say about this?

Sounds to me like a backup isn't an issue. When power's restored, so will everything on that server. That's lame that happened to them but I'm sure that they lost nothing. Even if it were more catastrophic I'm sure that they have multiple back up plans. I personally have server imaging, local backups and network backups that my servers do automatically... and I also pull my own manual backups of key areas every day... then those backups are stored on two computers at my home, both of which have Time Machine enabled. They're probably either being told that power will be restored quickly... or they're in the process of setting up another temporary server (that's what I would do if the host said it would take longer than an hour). --- Doesn't their host have backup generators? ...but maybe the redundancy was knocked out as well. I wish them luck, I'm sure they'll be back up soon. Trust me, when you sign up for server... you release them from liability in your contract. Unless the provider has been contractually obligated you can't sue for that.

Plain Test Page For Members Only?
CA3LE replied to SlowFreddy's topic in Ideas to make testmy.net better?
I could but it would have to be on a small membership fee or donation basis... going ad free for members effects my revenue too much... revenue that keeps this site running. I experemented with the idea a while back but it didn't work out. I'm wondering, hw much would you personally pay for something like this... without the ads? -
Well, nothing has changed on my end to make that happen. You can only assume that your provider is delivering better right now
-
Trust me, that's the speed during that period... if there's a large pause in the transfer then of course it will be a lower result. Over a larger transfer that delay has less and less of an effect on the speed. Plus, sizes over 6MB start for about 1/4 second before the timer to smooth that delay out. You should always trust the result from the larger size over smaller sizes. But the scores off smaller sizes can tell allot about the health of a connection as well.

Log Scale option for Results Graph?
CA3LE replied to Woodlane's topic in Ideas to make testmy.net better?
I'll be working on a new graphing system soon. Until then, did you know that you can filter by test type in the database. Click the little arrows in the results... to filter by type Then click the little "X" (or default at the top) to return to full results ... does that help? I could also overlay them and have them on different scales like mudmanc4 suggested... but that's a pretty in-depth rework. Your recent results don't deviate very much even when you scale the results up... but if you pull out to max results you start to see deviation in your upload speed. https://testmy.net/st...=100&q=Woodlane - last 100 https://testmy.net/st...1000&q=Woodlane - last 1000 You're thinking of when there was an option for bar charts... also used to be an option for reverse graph. Simplified by removing those options. The functionality is actually still built in...
