  1. So, we finally broke something on our old Macbook. The display. Took 5 years to break something and it's still not Apple's fault. This is a late 2006 model and it's still a completely awesome laptop. (I have upgraded it a bit though) I would rather pay a couple hundred bucks and fix it... can you say that about any PC laptop made around the same time, I don't think so. I was wondering if you knew of or could help me find a good, trustworthy place to get a new display from. I've found some from Google search but maybe someone that reads this may know of a place. Do you know if you can get something like this directly from Apple? Hopefully without paying so much that it's not worth it... because like I said, it's still an awesome laptop despite it's age. I guess if it costs too much we could hook a keyboard and monitor up to it and use it as a stationary computer. Thanks!
  2. Why thank you... So you have one computer that's wireless and one that's wired? The wireless is working fine but your wired connection isn't? I too think that it has to do with an address conflict. If the wired computer tries to use an address that's already taken you'll have problems. You should however get a message telling you about the conflict. To troubleshoot this, first make sure that no computers are connected to the router. Leave your modem in place if you've established an internet connection and know that's working. Then connect just the wired computer. If you're still having an issue, then the problem runs deeper. Realize that it could be as easy as a fouled port on the router... so also try using a different port, if you have one open. Sometimes the quickest, easiest thing to do is reset your equipment to factory defaults. If you don't know how to do this just provide your router model number and we'll provide instructions for you.
  3. Just don't worry about it... if you really want to I can merge the accounts. But since you don't have very much forum activity yet I don't think it's necessary. The broadband.gov test is also a flash based Ookla test... therefor you can put that in the same category as speedtest.net --- it's made by the same people. Off the subject but someone as MSNBC recently misquoted me saying that I thought the FCC testing was sound. Totally was taken out of context. I actually should have been quoted saying something like, "Some of their techniques are sound but with flawed test methodology the information there can't be trusted." -- I let it go because of the amount of quality traffic they sent me. He pretty much used me to write what he wanted, I have email proof of this from our conversations... I know now to watch my words when I'm talking to the press about anything. Because they'll twist your words on you. I love how all the negative information I gave was omitted. What's their agenda? But, that's another subject all together.
  4. D.C. was down a little bit ago... but service was just restored. Did some system updates and for some reason it completely crashed the server on reboot. That server has never been down since I turned it on. First time for everything... it's cool now. BlackKitty, try the DC server like Triran suggested. Navigating to http://dc.testmy.net will change the default to DC for you or click the button on the screenshot that was posted ... let's make sure you're having the same problem over there too.. that eliminates many routing issues.
  5. Here is my result on Cox.net in Phoenix Arizona to Dallas, TX across the country to Washington D.C. If I can do it, you should be too. Especially since my host has direct peering with Comcast, 60+ Gbps of direct peering. ... this is why I don't think the problem will be found in your route. Most likely your modem, router, NIC or settings... something local. But I could easily be wrong.
  6. WELCOME! I'd like to encourage you to read my legitimacy page and Why do my speeds differ from speedtest.net? What's your Operating System? Also, you must be seeing poor speeds elsewhere to question their results, right? MANY providers use speedtest.net's service and I don't think any of them even realize how poor the test is. According to their own admission they doctor the results. They are making adjustments for an unknown variable! How is that scientific? Their test looks pretty but I believe that testmy.net has a superior methodology. Many common issues aren't detected by that test but are very obvious when you test here. I do things differently. I'm sure that if Comcast would love to help if they were given the correct information. The call center people have been told to send people there, it's not their fault... it's the fault of whoever told them to do that. I can say this with certainty, if you're in North America and you can't pull your speeds here... you have a problem. My servers are very well connected and if Comcast or any ISP tells you any different... you need to question them. Ask the community... ask the countless people that have relied on this service for so many years. One thing that may help you is TCP Optimizer -- especially if you're using Windows XP. I'm guessing with an i7 you're running Windows 7... let me know. We'll try to help. run pathping testmy.net or mtr testmy.net from the command prompt. And return those results please -CA3LE
  7. This is how to share your speed test scores here, these instructions work on any website or forum not just TestMy. Sharing your average and max speeds are all covered in this video. Note that there is also a button for exporting to CSV (excel / open office document). Also, if you filter your results (e.g. by identifier, date, days.. etc) the resulting share image and links will reflect the filtered results. Enjoy! This was made by request from Mario!

  9. Welcome to the site, please read this rule If that's your true speed... why can you only pull ~45Mbps here. ... here's a 186Mbps result 1300+ miles from the server.
  10. Thanks everyone, Yeah, it would be crazy if she was born today... because she was conceived on the same day as me too (Valentines Day). Exactly 30 years after I was conceived and born, that would be pretty nuts. ... she is late by 4 days right now, so it could easily happen. Thank you for the birthday wishes, I can't believe I'm 30. Another decade wiser. Luckily I seem to age slowly so I should look like I'm still in my twenties for years to come.
  11. Dang, that sucks. Well, you bring up key-logging. If you think that's possible, you may be screwed. If your Mom has been logging your keystrokes and she's gone in and changed your passwords you should be able to do a password request from the place you're trying to log into. Unless she was smart enough to also change the email address and other account information needed to reset the password... then, well... maybe start up some new games because she's got you in 'check' with that one... 'check mate' if she supplied the credit card info used to pay for membership (e.g. World of Warcraft). I feel sorry for you. That sucks that your Mom doesn't trust you. If she did log your keystrokes like that, SHAME ON HER! Seriously, I don't care if she's your parent. It violates your privacy! And I don't care how young you are, if you're old enough to use a computer you're old enough to have computer privacy. Parents... Block sites or keywords if you have to but DON'T LOG YOUR KIDS. Give them the same respect with their computer usage as you would with a diary. ... if the kid can't be trusted on the computer, take it away... but DON'T violate their trust by logging keystrokes.
  12. Now I got it... thanks
  13. No problem Jeff. I'm glad that you found my tools so useful.
  14. I'll take that into consideration when I get back to work. I'm glad I don't have to deal with problems like that, good luck.
  15. You can share your speeds on facebook already but it's not on the front page. Under your results page click "share" next to the score you want to share, then on that page click 'facebook share'. Is that what you mean? Or are you talking about doing something different?
  16. That sentence makes my head hurt... are you sure you typed that right? lol
  17. This is why a site like TestMy.net is so important... without a site like this there would be nobody to call these guys out. People think, "Oh, it's AT&T... they're huge... they HAVE to know what they're talking about." Well, as you can see... they don't. I've said this since the first flash speed test I saw, flash is a terrible protocol to try to benchmark though. I think it's retarded that companies are relying on stuff that that for technical support. It disgusts me because I know that they know this... I think they're doing it on purpose to alleviate stress on their call centers. They need to realize that unhappy customers do cause the phone to stop ringing... but it's because they leave you! Truth is that the truth can hurt sometimes. And if they want to lie to themselves and their customers they're not alone. This BS has become common practice among ISPs. I think they should be required by law to use a third party for speed testing, because of the major conflict of intrest. I think they have the mindset that if you pretend the problem isn't there, maybe it will go away. ... stupid and unfair to customers. Who knows, if you guys keep spreading the word maybe we can change policy. Yeah, that's obviously impossible with your connection.
  18. Awesome, glad to hear it.
  19. No problem Nope, the Auto Speed Test is unique to TestMy.net. Even with scripting on your end it's nearly impossible unless the test site wants you to be able to do that. You'd need to be able to automate mouse clicks to get the test started otherwise. Far too much trouble IMO. You could write a bash script that downloads a file from one of their servers and logs the results... sounds like allot of work considering that I've already built the tool you need. --- Although, upcoming versions of the automatic speed test will have the option to test from any server you want. It should be sweet but I bet your problem is resolved by the time I release that update. Thanks for visiting! Tell your friends...
  20. First, welcome to my website. One thing you'll want to do is run a traceroute to the speed test server they give you. It's most likely hosted within their network. They say that this is to eliminate the variable of the other guys server or traceroute.. blah blah.. BS, they probably don't peer very well. The basically have you test on a server within their network and eliminate the variable of... the internet. I mean seriously, how can it be an internet speed test if you're not even extending the connection beyond the host. I think it should be illegal for ISPs to do this to their customers. I think they should be required to use a third party testing site. But it's become common practice, I'm trying to change this. You may want to run a test on the Washington D.C. server. See if your results vary. http://dc.testmy.net (this will change your default server to DC, links to change back are on the test pages... or clear your cookies) I have very powerful servers and one of the most well connected hosts in the world. Chances are, TDS is just not delivering and hiding the fact with the internal test. You can feel that it's not right, otherwise you wouldn't be here... So what speeds are they supposed to be giving you? Another warning, the server address you go to when you perform their speed test isn't necessarily where the test is coming from. They could host the site it outside of their network.. but transfer using an internal server. Tricky business and it should be against they law. As I've said many times, you're paying for Internet not Intranet. It's just not real world.
  21. mod_security dude http://www.modsecurity.org/
  22. I use pretty much one user for my databases... just make sure your password is strong. Bruteforce is pretty ineffective... unless the password is dictionary based. You should worry more about SQL injection hacks than someone actually cracking your entire DB.
  23. This topic was started early yesterday but is just being made live because the counter just rolled over. MILLION PARTY! I've been cryptic about these in the past, basically every million speed tests I'm going to post a theme based topic. Just for fun. Join me in posting videos, links.. whatever that's related to this parties theme. This time the theme is "Crazy People" This lady is nuts!
  24. I hear that... I'm not 100% positive but from my experience Intel based NIC cards usually have good linux support. Can't hurt to give it a try. Also, have you messed with any TCP settings or are you running a fresh install?
