That is possible but it is going to cost big bucks.. School and companies run Windows NT or 2003 server. Basically what they do is create an internal domain.. So.. You create a domain that is called testmy.lcl. At this point you would have a server that is incharge of the entire domain, also known as a domain controller. From this server you could setup Active Directory. Basically a huge access list of users, computer, and groups. You can also setup policies for each. So if you wanted one group to be able to change the time you could make a policy that allowed them to change the time. The whole aspect of having roaming storage space and profiles is all controlled in active directory. I am sure that there is a way to do all of this in linux for next to nothing.. I just havent had the time to do so. Maybe if I get some time in the coming weeks I can begin to dabble. Other wise if you are interested in going with the Microsoft route you would want to research Windows Server 2003

Insight.. A lot of the insight customers are being moved to new IP ranges as the upgrades take place. For some reason it is taking some time for the new IP ranges to register with DNS I guess so the test is displaying them as 123.123 as the ISP..

alright here are a few things you can try.. The router method.. If it is a linksys.. If you put dd-wrt then you can disable the reset button.. not a great idea if you mess with it a lot but hey.. If you want to use the standard firmware change the router ip to something other that 192.168.1.1 and then in the host file on the computer route it somewhere else like localhost.. Then pretty much apply a block to myspace on the router. Each time there is a request for myspace it is going to be logged. So it should be to hard to figure out who is going where. The second option would be to modify her host log file and direct myspace to say localhost.. I am not for tracking software. I think it should be used as a last resort method. Also setting up the firewall on the router is important also.. Not allowing external sources such as ssh, remote desktop, etc is important but also killing proxy setups from the browser is also important. Does this person have an administrative account?

Those cables are for component sources.. so like hi def stuff.. Otherwise here is the product that I was talking about http://www.ramelectronics.net/html/video-vga-gvm-2000.html I cant find the Viewsonic one anymore... I guess they discontinued it..

Ever heard of insight.. since they upgraded and are now pumping all of their stuff into ATL via level3 no wonder Comcast is having upstream issues.. I am sure that they know about.. However, that being said it doesnt look like there are tons of posts on the comcast help forum..

Can Cable IPs Place Caps on Broadband Download Streams?
Swimmer replied to aarhus2004's topic in General Help
Welcome to the forum aarhus2004.. Looking over what you described is fairly interesting.. You can detect what port WMP is running on by running netstat -a when the stream is active. Start -> Run -> type cmd press enter -> type netstat -a. You should be able to see all of the ports that are currently open and listening for connections. One of these ports is going to be the one used for the stream. I tried it on CNN's site with the embed free news reports and found this. TCP mobile:1614 wms-dtc1n-cnnvip.stream.aol.com:554 TIME_WAIT TCP mobile:1615 stgwms-dtc1n-4.stream.aol.com:554 TIME_WAIT So try that and then repost what ports you found the streams were using. If it turns out that they are just generic port it could be that the ISP is limiting traffic because like shug said they most likely oversold their bandwidth. One other question.. When you download stuff off the Internet from say Microsoft or Mozilla Foundation. Do the download speeds start fast then as the download progresses get slower and slower and slower to the point that the speed drops below 100Kbps? Little update... What plan are you on? Looking at how shaw has their network setup, using monthly quotas, they have out sold their bandwidth big time. I am going to guess that you are on the 39.99 plan that includes 60GB of traffic per month. With out seeing the TOS from Shaw I am going to guess that the monthly transfer includes both upload and download in that 60GB. That being said and since it is the 25th of the month it is very possible that you have exceded the 60Gb transfer limit. They by they are capping you speed down to the next level which looks to be 256k down and 128k up.. I havent looked at your test results yet but I am going to guess that it is around that speed.. So that means that you have about 2gb per 24 hours on average. This is not a lot of traffic! I know that I struggled as an IT major in the dorms to keep my connection below the 6Gb combined limit per 24 hours. I dont download movies but I do listen to a lot of online radio and I download my fair share of software. So how to correct the situtation.. The best option would be to call Shaw first and see what the 60Gb limit includes. It was most likely in the TOS that you agreed to but it would be more fun to talk to someone at the company and see if they even know. As most ISPs have a hidden transfer limit and at that point you just get a letter in you bill to quit downloading all of the movies. You also might want to ask if there is a website they you can access to monitor you monthly traffic limits. The next best option would be to get rid of Shaw. ISPs that monitor your overall bandwidth in terms of transfer limits are just not a great idea. They are always able to scam you out of the bandwidth that you paid for. For example.. I got onto the linux craze last year and decided to download the ISO for Suse linux.. The problem it was 3.4GB. So that was over my limit of 3GB download. However, I had 3GB per 24 hours. So I started at 9 and thought midnight my new 3GB will come into effect and I will be fine.. That didnt happen because it was a 'rolling' 24 hours. That being said dump Shaw if you can afford to. So there you go.. I have a feeling that this is your problem.. If not then we can look into other things. -
Yeah not surprising that is the only way that I know of doing dubbing.. VHS -> Hard drive -> DVD.. You would think that by now companies would allow consumers to make personal backups of their property.. I guess not.. However, I will post this in new in a few minutes if it isnt already there.. If you remember the DMCA the whole DVD MP3 business that the companies are hiding behind because they cant rip everyone off $19.99.. Well the cell phone providers took a pretty big hit.. It will not be illegal, in 3 years, for cell phone providers to lock their phone onto their networks. So you could buy Cingular 'equipment' and take it with you and you number over to T-Mobile and use it. I personally think this is the best thing that I have ever hear! Every three years exeptions are argued.. and like always media backup is one of the hot topics. Also like always it is over turned. So I guess to be able to do what you are looking to do you are either A) going to have to wait. buy it on DVD C) use a computer as a middle man. Or D) buy the converter to do what you wanted to do in the beginning. If you are interested here is the article: http://arstechnica.com/news.ars/post/20061124-8280.html

I believe he was an Internet security expert wasnt he? I remember the video but dont remember the context of why he was on the video. As far as the camera go.. Not securing them is like not securing a wireless router.. The simple 10 minutes... Does that google search bring up all cameras protected or non-protected? I bet you could do the same thing if you have the web access turned on for your router.

was that from this weekend? if so damn..

Yeah.. I thought you would like the DVDs.. Alright here are some pics.. Sorry about the lighting..

If you are going to be hooking up a decent graphic card that costs $$ then I would spends the money on a nice power supply.. There is no point in spending money on nice hardware if you are going to give it crappy power.. http://www.zipzoomfly.com/jsp/ProductDetail.jsp?ProductCode=370798 that will do the trick.

The issues is the traffic quantity.. Most hosting sites are going to be offering around the 2gb level. Very few people go over this every month.. However, if you are in need of 10gb you are going to be looking at a dedicated or co-location solution. You might want to talk with DLewis.. He just purchased or is getting ready to purchase a un-metered dedicated web hosting package. Basically you buy a port speed and you are set to use any amount of bandwidth you want.

you could do something like this.. http://www.cablesnmor.com/vga-rca-cable.html I know there are converter boxes produced by viewsonic for this type of application..

Got a kick ass deal... If you are still interested here is what I got.. http://www.circuitcity.com/ssm/Samsung-19-SyncMaster-Monitor-940BW/sem/rpsm/oid/158003/catOid/-12965/rpem/ccd/productDetail.do Let me tell ya.. there is no difference between this 1440x900 and 1680x1050.. I looked at a 20' version at circuit city that was also there and talked with a sales rep who was from samsung... He pretty much said that the more pixels that you try an cramp into a screen the more chances for ghosting and banding. Something that I didnt want.. So I got the 940BW.. I have had it hooked to my laptop for about 10 minutes and am typing this post on it and it looks amazing! I am trying to get my parents to buy one now.. I will throw up some pictures tomorrow so that all of you can see the difference between a 15.4 1680x1050 and a 20' 1440x900.. That was my only concern.. the resolution difference. I also got 60 DVD-R for $2.95 at Staples this morning.. Didnt go there for that but how can you pass up that type of deal..

that really blows... The only thing that I could think of would be if the environmental variables changed some how.. And yes vista's release date does suck the big one.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY!! November testmy.net babies...
Swimmer replied to tdawnaz's topic in General Discussion
Happy birthday guys and gals.. -
I about going to doubt that there is going to be much tweaking room.. Insight seems to be dead on with the caps and the issue with Level3 over selling bandwidth I wouldnt be shocked if they keep the bandwidth locked down pretty good.
