1. I would suggest against using a static IP. It makes it harder to troubleshoot an intermittent or ongoing connectivity issue. For simplicity's sake, turn off all security on your router (WEP, MAC filtering, etc) to troubleshoot this issue.
2. I imagine it has something to do with either the route, or your browser's ability to process data they way the smartest works. Try this: http://www.testmy.net/tools/test/d_load.php?ni=1&st=st&tt=1&ta=1&top=000&out_src=20MB
3. Have you tried reloading/updating the drivers?
4. Have you tried another adapter? What is the exact error you receive from the IPCONFIG/RENEW command?
5. Are you able to obtain an IP with an ethernet connection?
6. I agree. If you use Internet Connection Sharing and tweak out your PC, you may see some speed increases because your XBox's connection will be filtered through the registry settings of the PC.
7. It is most likely due to the fact that our servers are in Texas, and the speakeasy server you tested from is in Georgia. Where do you live? Have you tried some of our mirrors: http://www.testmy.net/tools/mirrors.php
8. I agree with OrGaN_ShIfTeR. I voted No as well. This is not what TMN is about. If anything, this will only take away from the character of TMN. It will act as a venue for members to post away, totally disregarding boards such as Make It Faster, Help, Guides, etc....the boards where TMN has claimed its identity as a technical authority on the Internet. The forum on this site is primarily a means of helping others with their technical needs. We have already been blessed with an off-topic board...IMO this should be all that the community needs for social balance. If you do not agree, there are hundreds of "Adults-only" forums out there....way (exponentially) more than there are technical forums, or even more specifically, Internet speed forums. I think it's time for a reality check. This site has an identity. Let's not lose sight of that. I have belonged to multiple forums in the past, some technical, some not....and I have all but abandoned my memberships there for the one I have here. Social forums are bound to repetitious cycles, and become mundane and tiresome. Sure it's a novel idea to this forum, but like I said, there are other sites designed specifically for this. The beauty of this site is that we are not bound to the same cycles. We follow the course of technology, which progresses very quickly, and doesn't leave much room for doddling. If we were to lose our vision on the technology frontier, I know that I would lose interest. So I say, let's clean it up before it's too late and we get trapped in.
9. How bout getting a legit copy of Windows? lol Try start>>run>>command
10. Although I am not American and do not celebrate Memorial Day, I understand and appreciate the price of freedom; the sacrafice of few for so many. We live in a society where we honour our God-given gift of free will, and praise the liberty of all souls above every other measure. We do not pride to live in an ideal world without suffering and immorality, we do not strive to extinguish that with which we do not agree, but we stand to defend our values against any who threaten them, no matter the risk involved. It is far, far too easy to neglect history, and to take for granted the seemingly simple things which we have been given by the sacrafice of those who came before us. Each of us is guilty of this, in one way or another. But we must take the time to really stop and think what it must have been like for those heroic enough to stand up for what they believed in, at times in defiance of all odds, and often even in full awareness of their own ultimate sacrafice, in order that we may have such liberties to take for granted at all. Grace and peace be on the souls of all who have died in the name of the children of freedom.
11. I will admit, I have enjoyed the adult topics that have been participated in here, because they have been presented in a tasteful manner. But in defense of this site, I will vote no on this poll. The biggest and best attraction to this site is its forum, without discrimination towards age, sex, religion, nationality...whatever. I think that having an "Adults Only" section is a means of discrimination towards our youth members (a notable chunk of the population). It isn't fair; you wouldn't make a "White, Christian, Heterosexual, 23-Year-Old Male" section, nor one that pertains directly to single--or more correctly one that eliminates all other--groups of people. I think that we might find that it will become a deterrent, and go exactly against the code of this forum. I do like the idea of the Members Only Lounge, not just as a means of enticing guests to join the forum, but as a means to unwind away from the public (ie. Google-able) eye. I think that is a great idea! But we will have to test and prune out certain content as we go. That will be half the fun, but ground rules will be the key to keeping it alive, cleanish, and thus successful.
12. This topic has been moved to Security Threats. [iurl]http://www.testmy.net/forum/index.php?topic=14406.0[/iurl]
13. Hobo, there is still high latency between your router and modem. You mentioned that you hard-wire to your router....and the hop to the router is <1....so the NIC is good. You bypass the router and run another trace, which turns out bad....so the router is not the problem. You've tried multiple cables and get the same results....so it's not a cable issue. This means that it is either a modem problem, or a service problem. I'd be calling up my ISP and hounding them until they resolve this issue.
14. They should definitely be helping you with this. The first hop to your modem is good, and the next hop is good too, but then it goes to hell. This is within the QWest network. It might be a load balancing due to maintenance, but it may also be an overloaded node. If they give you a hard time when you call, keep asking for higher technical departments until you've reached the top. They should be able to answer your questions. Somebody should take ownership of the latency issue.
15. Welcome to the forum, 99starrider....great speeds! You might try testing from some of the mirrors: http://www.testmy.net/tools/mirrors.php
16. Looks like some latency in the traceroute. Strange that your upload is higher tho. Have you tried resetting your modem? If you are able, log into your modem spec site (usually 192.168.100.1 in the address bar of your browser). Have a look at your Rx Power level, and SnR. Post these specs up if you are able to get to them. Otherwise, if a modem reset doesn't help and your modem specs are good, i'd be calling your ISP with the traceroute results.
17. I drive a 1983 Mercedes 300SD....it's a turbo diesel....and it's got as much low-end pickup and high-end torque as I would ever need. amc11890, if you could ever find one of these, 1970 Firebird....grab it up. One of my favourite cars of all time.
18. The code is correct, I am certain. Have you tried sending one to yourself? Is there a web-based mail that you can use, rather than the mail client? What mail client is it?
19.

<p><img src="http://www.watch.impress.co.jp/pc/docs/2002/yajiuma/07/xentex4.jpg"></p>
I sent it in email using the code above and it worked fine. If you used this code letter-for-letter, then it would indicate that either a) the software is not configured to send HTML, or the account (ISP) does not allow it.
20. Can't you save the pic and attach it? I know that for certain web-based mail that I have used, you need to click "view HTML source" in the compose window in order to actually modify the HTML. Then you can put in all the code you want.
21. It's possible If you're up for trying it out, that's awesome. I'd suggest using cablenut. Just back up your registry first. Tinker around with some of VanBuren's custom files, or even some settings of your own. If you have specific questions, post back and we'll help you out as best as we can.
22. Your speeds are perfect then. I wouldn't touch a thing. You might even see a bit better speeds if you find a MIRROR for which you have a really nice download route from. But you are reaching your advertised speeds nicely.
23. What are you advertised speeds, dirtysanchez? (love the name! ) Looks like you may need to look into a bit more than just cablenut. Please read the sticky: http://www.testmy.net/forum/t-2097 Cablenut guide is found here: http://www.testmy.net/forum/t-1013
24. Try this code: <p><img src="http://www.watch.impress.co.jp/pc/docs/2002/yajiuma/07/xentex4.jpg"></p> The link to your pic would be in the "" marks <hr> You need to make sure the mail client is configured for sending pics/html. In Outlook Express: -click Tools, Options, Send tab. -set Mail Sending Format to HTML -click HTML Settings... -check the box for Send pictures with messages -click OK, Apply, OK
