  1. Dude what planet are you living on ? You aren't serious with all this BS , you can't be. Iv'e not heard such a load of crap in quite some time. They can't afford ? Look, your trying to get me to go for this reasoning that MS doesn't have the server room to store updates ?You think they erase all the code they have built for all these years ? Do you expect me to believe there having trouble with bandwidth ? That if not the most successful industry quite possible in human existence doesn't have the resources to be able to host updates on multiple servers for multiple platforms ? No , I think not, if that were even close to resembling a partial truth , how is it that as you say MS sunset 2k just this past july ? AND there doing " 7 " And there doing XP , .......... BS !!!!!!!! but now there at there capacity and need to chuck a couple OS's to " get rid of the old junk " . Stop please don't take me for an idiot. Even then , if what you say was true , then they would have to chuck ALL OS's . Just makes no sense , but good try. Simply put , MS is money hog and exists for no other reason then to exploit every aspect of todays human communications and entertainment industry , penetrating, capitalizing as well as hiding progress in computer science that no one else other then some of apples dorks do. The world can always use more progress in every aspect, the world doesn't really need to be exploited financially and told there 5 year old 500$ OS is outdated. When 2k was introduced what , in late 99 ? Thats a decade ago , hello ? Nope , MS does this tripe to force users into purchasing yet another release from them. Plain and simple. Just look at the GNU project.
  2. I would hope that most of you are aware that even though net nuetrality was blocked in our government , the FCC is taking action ( sure , no one else influencing ) to moderate not only what you see , what you are able to access , where and when and who is able to do what on the internet. This is nothing new, but the actions being taken now are. Please become involved as you can , no matter how little you think your involvement to stop what is being done, it is the collective that will help our way of life survive. This is not just internet there going for , but all public airwaves in every and any kind. Here is a great place to start. I'll try and update this thread as much as i can , and hope that you do as well. . . Save the Internet This is a petition , please sign it , if this is all you do to help voice your opinion. Petition to voice opinion of REAL net nuetrality
  3. You know , those 9800's ran hot as hell. Here's what I had to do to a 9800 pro to keep it cool , yes the blue fins I put on the top are on the bottom as well, just not in that pic , made a HUGE difference. OooPS , nope , wrong pic , here , try this next one....... Still have it running , use omega drivers if you can, nothing beats them. This pic is from at least five years ago , but the thing still works great. After keeping it cool of course. Otherwise there would be artifacts all over after just a few minutes of gamin.
  4. DOH ! haha , nice, geezus i bet your shinin right now over this one yes ? I had to get to know the guy's running the show , go to the office enough , BS with the ladies up front , talk to the boss man here and there till he asked me my name, small talk trying to keep up with someone that knows how to configure the lasers firing at the head end and determine a bad card in a node from a shell was a real bitch. But after a while we ended up havin a beer here and again on his way home. Next thing I knew I was getting a new port and drop. A leak test up and down the street and patches all over the place lol So like you say , pays off to communicate. Too bad they promoted him to regional , haven't seem him since. And i learned a lot from him.
  5. Yea well still , I'm not saying they should be forced to do anything , let alone spend there time and resources on updating an " old " OS. None the less, they have the capabilities to keep one frackin server in onw corner of one of there hundreds of server farms somewhere. with at the least what updates they stopped at. Wouldn't cost them shit. Considering there's still so many out there still running it as every day workstations. I run into it time and again. I guess if i have the care I'll grab the packages if i can from somewhere. Someone has it all I am sure. There ploy to make a buck is endless. A company as large as MS puts out a system such as vista and sells billions of dollars worth , then a few years later stops support , it's laughable Hell , you can still get most every Linux distro ever made , at least the functioning items. And people donate there resources at that. Well if your using 2k as a server for one of many reasons , and it was great for just that , and networking , then you really don't need much at all, the original disk should contain enough to start you up on almost anything. Look at it this way , the more apps we use , the more code there needs to be , the more complex it gets. And the more system resources it takes. With an OS like 2k , it has to be the most stable OS MS ever made , not to mention usability. Yea Iv'e used nLite before, works great, if I get the most recent update packages then likely I'll find the time to do just that at some point. You wouldn't believe how many people never update there machines. For any reason. And some that simply refuse to do it. And you know what , they have a fraction of the issues others do. Anyhow , myself , I could care less about the " pretties " of the OS , no desktop flashies or spectacular cursors or themes here, no system sounds other then basic info. When I get an email, when I install an app, thats about it , can't think of any other sounds it makes. I would rather run something like BSD or centOS with X turned off. You can brows the web with a text based browser as well, sure , you miss all the pretties , but so what. I dunno , maybe I'll grab 7 one of these days , when I can get it for free. See what the rants are about , or not about I should say. As it got real quiet after the release , I think more quiet then any other OS release MS ever had yes ?
  6. Hey we all do it here and again. Running a little faster now ?
  7. Yet another reason to despise MS , for shits sake.
  8. Well the last time i put the 9800 in a mb and had those same beeps, I forgot to plug the power in to it, but that doesnt sound like you. Any chance you have tried a different molex connector ?
  9. I've always enjoyed 2000, ( really MS shat itself after that OS and catered to end user ease of use as well as all the " pretties " ) it's been my for sure fall back on OS where everything just works and is highly configurable for just about anything you want to do with networking around the house, well ok , it was the best. afaic Anyhow I installed a VM on the mac for specific purposes in mind, before i go and install it on a system of it's own ,or start googling thought I'de ask you guys if MS has sunset update services or if i need to look into other reasons the update service is unavailable. Anyone ?
  10. Thanks for all the info guy's. My oldest is not here with me, wish he would come in here and comment on this. Here's the thing , we have the drum set guitar for rock band, he plays drums , and refuses to play the damn things more then just to knock the dust off of it. I'm concerned about getting a Wii or something where he has to move anything more then his fingertips hahah The age appropriate games he likes of course , but at the same time , he enjoys at the least watching as i play games such as assassins creed and bioshock ect , I'm sure if he sat down to them he'd do it, he's playing myst 4 right now , not really a graphically intensive game , but you have to think a little more then say the crash games. In which Id'e like to see him play more of. I know some of the PS3 consoles will play PS2 games , do they all now or no ? Thanks for everyones input , it's been very helpful so far.
  11. When I did PC gaming I had a profile strictly for gaming. I had it down to either 7 or 11 processes , i can't remember anymore. But just by stopping all of the extra traffic I was able to gain significant performance.
  12. Can you imagine the server load with the already tens of thousands of people testing and even 10% of them are firing requests every five minutes. I can't even imagine what it is right now , it has to be phenomenal .
  13. The youngest is 11 and the oldest is going on 19. We play cod4 , assassins creed , oblivion , GT4 and games like burnout all the way to indiana jones lego, crash blah blah to many you know. Some of which are on the mac. I've always been one to use either a PC or mac for gaming , but he like to sit in front of the TV , so it's time to get a better console , so any help might be news to me anyhow , haha , thanks guys
  14. Considering moving my boy from the PS2 to something a little more updated. If you have a console ( or version ) that needs added to the poll say so and we'll put it up. Also any comments will be helpful. thanks
  15. Te score shown in the upper page of testmy.net is the cumulative average of all tests taken , I think ca3le said average is shown every five minutes , I could be wrong about the time. I think your right about the microwave , if it were messing things up , there would be a lot more trouble out there lol Is there any aiming of the radio ? could that be a possibility ?
  16. I'm trying to understand what they cared about your router. The wrt54g is an awesome router. You could flash dd-wrt on it and get a real nice commercial grade system out of it. But anyhow. I'm not familiar with DECT , but you van be sure I'm going to read up on it. Interference is one thing , but the same frequency range may be the issue , but I should close thy beak until I know more about DECT lol I haven't heard of a microwave causing issues , but then again , don't some of these radio's for internet run close to the same frequencies ?
  17. Any operating system will run more efficient with as little processes running , doing the least work , leaving the hardware performing tasks that the user requests. I find most systems have an average of 35-50 processes running. One the systems that have or will have performance issues , there generally well above 50. I think many times the system processes running by default , are there to do as much as possible for the user , and the rest are watching other system processes trying to keep them in check. Other then the obvious needed.
  18. I'm inclined to confer with ca3le on this one , I would ask them what they mean by back feeding. But you actually can get dhcp to nics requesting ip's even if the lan is connected to the wan , as long as the wan is still connected , but still it shouldn't effect the radio. The only thing i can see that would effect the radio in the receiver might be the frequency that the dir-628 is on ( and shouldn't be anyhow ) if they set this up in the firmware of the radio. Try changing the frequency on the router. Do you have any wireless camera's or wireless phones , I've seen them play havoc as well. But again , they should have known this when configuring the receiver radio. As far as them seeing the IP's of the devices that are and have been connected , they can see the mac addresses if you havent spoofed them , this makes me think two things , either the tech your talking to is inexperienced and thinks that these devices are somehow IP's , or in some other strange way , the receiver radio is got a dhcp server in it and is giving out IP's. I would take a look in the router and match the IP's leased or mac's leased with devices connected to make sure thats not going on , I know , sounds strange and impossible , just t a thought. I this is the case , you'll have to shut dhcp off on all internal devices. ie: the router.
  19. Who out there has an AM2/3 that has any info on this . I'll do a little diggin for you in the mean while. I found a little clip on the AM2 wiki , check it out and see what you can do what your asking, I can't vouch for this I'm hoping as you are someone has done it and will speak up. AM2 Wiki
  20. Here's nlite link , lets hope it works for you , if not ww'll figure out another way for you to get it. Nlite is an attachment nlite website The attachment ( sae3v560 ) is the bios from toshiba website for XP and your particular laptop . If the way I zipped it doesnt work just say and I'll change it for you. toshiba XP bios for sata ect sae3v560.exe.zip Make sure you have all the drivers before you start , or you'll be stuck you know. Just check everything. Integrade into XP CD.zip two parts to the drivers ect Intel Matrix Storage SATA HDD Drivers.zip nlite Version 5.60 - 2008-05-31 Implemented a workaround for an Intel ICH8M SATA Init LPM issue. Added an enable/disable BOOT devices capability to support TsuRuWIN.EXE. Added a logo. A modification was made for the Japanese keyboard. A LidOut Scancode was added nLite-1.4.9.1.installer.exe.zip
  21. The switches are more for my experience then anything , really just a hobby of mine. I never really get them where i want them , just always evolving. Benefits of them not being in a production environment. Been quite a few months since I was in them i don't even remember what version there running. I think I let my ambitions cool off when trying to configure an HP DL380's Lights Out through the 2600 externally with a dyndns config. I also have a 2600 here that I played with for a while, I should be using that instead of pfsense , but hey. If there's a way to get FS config through pfs and a 2900 with the right QOS I'll get it , or not lol anyhow , more time this weekend maybe to get the wireless going.
  22. One question as to the hookup , can you , in any way possible , diagram the way your connection is , from the " radio " to the router and the computer. If you have one of the cat5 cables on the LAN that should be on the WAN , or on the radio looped to the router , or even internally in the router or radio then you can in theory cause something like this , but you also shouldn't get a connection via WAN either if this is the case. Then again , if the loop is in the router going to the radio , I suppose it's possible in some way. Instead of them telling you your backfeeding them , they should not allow it from within there radio firmware, and ask you a similar question .
  23. Have to get send tillery a greeting as well
  24. I'm just telling you what I think buddy , thats what these particular worms do, chances of you getting it back without re installing is slim to none. They make a connection somehow so that when it's removed , then so is your connection , and I know exactly what your talking about , your connected , but you cannot access the internet. You might spend days or weeks figuring it out when you'll likely not. Seen a lot of them just like this.
