Post your speed and how much you pay monthly

Recommended Posts

I'm currently on my smart TV so I can't post an image, but I typically download at around 35 Mbps on testmy.net on a 45 Mbps plan from AT&T. My record is a tick over 56. I have some GREAT discounts and free upgrades, so I only pay about $50 a month for the internet portion of my package.

12Mbps to 23 down and 2-5 up, $60/month or $80 month (promotion) for virtually unlimited data: Florida, coastal GA, MS,AL,some areas of coastal LA , coastal SC, NC and most coastal New England states

Viasat. Available almost everywhere east of the Mississippi and some areas in the western US. Some areas in the west have the 5/1 footprint offered.

I have Verizon Fios 50/50 mbps.

Went to Speedtest.net and the results were, as usual, 58/64.

Testmy.net test results were: 55/24.

With a ping time of 3ms the oookla test server is literally right next door, so testing will be very much so irrelevant other than connection.

When testing it's always best to find a server further away from your current location, check the available testmy.net servers list  > here <

I selected San Jose, CA for OOkla and testmy.

There are many thread and discussions concerning flash based testing. As well as how the tests are calculated, and the specific pipe to the test, where on the structure the test is sitting, and why.

Without getting into semantics about adding another software layer in order to test real world results, or specifics engineered into the testing platform itself, in my opinion these tests can only be used to determine a step away from connectivity, latency in short sense, yet severely lack real world usability, let alone geographic characteristics of 'real world' access to data concerning data stream, multi threaded visibility, not exempting realistic discrepancies between living on a top tier Vs. actual usability.

Furthermore again in my opinion once we understand how websites today are gathering said data to deliver specifically upon request, we begin to understand it is not, by far from one node, yet in many cases hundreds. Google, local, ISP, CDN, not exempting stylesheets, fonts, .js, database, domain, DNS, and any plethora of data packages, are rarely anymore located 'locally' to the server hosting said site. Not even attempting to get into the security between said resources.

As one simple click or request to view can and does result in a literal storm of discussion between resource requests on a multitude of levels.

This is why in my opinion, to get a viable experience from a test, you must replicate what occurs during a request. Which testmy.net puts one big effort to accomplish with the multi-threading tests.

Manically rhetorical malarkey : Interesting enough, we seem to get a bit disgruntled, or have difficulty accepting that we cannot grab chosen data at the same speeds we assume we should be pulling it in as. Same with life in general, we see something that does not fit within the confines of our idealistic realm of reality, and we are rubbed wrong. At that point we either do something such as dig a bit further into why we are seeing this, or we ignore it as simple as that sounds, and discredit results as impossible.

Avg. download: 7.2 mbps.
Max. download: 34.3 mbps .

Advertised max. speed: 100 mbps,
for home fiber broadband, 1 year, from MobileOne.

Paid: 39 singapoor dollars/month

Feels kind of ripped off, since there's an isp which cost 10 dollars less per month for the same speed soon after i signed up. the competitor's tech support is terrible though, as in i'm almost never able to get through the line in under 1 hour.
and the supposedly cheaper 2-year deals would force me to pay for tv channels i don't watch after the first few months.

I've two connections at home - DSL and Fixed Wireless.  The DSL is part of my phone package and there's just a €10/month difference between phone-only and with DSL, so I kept the DSL as backup as the wireless ISP is not very stable and not suitable for VoIP.

Vodafone DSL + call package - €52.50 per month:

North West Electronics - 50Mb down / 10Mb up package - €32.99 per month:

The DSL line is consistent, while the fixed wireless connection varies over the day due to contention.
