ROM-DOS Posted November 18, 2005 CID Share Posted November 18, 2005 My advice is ~ Never click on any Pop-ups telliing you to do something like this! <img src="http://imagehouze.com/uploader/files/126/spy_bldos9_720x300.gif" alt="spy_bldos9_720x300.gif" /> There's also a really good pop-up out there that has totally emulated an official looking "Microsoft Security Warning!" It pops right onto your desktop ~ if you ever see that one, immediately cut the power to your PC. It took me three days of trying to catch that trojan, I couldn't open any folders or go anywhere on that drive, except connect to the internet! I went in from another drive where I have XP installed and found the bugger, but everytime I deleted it ~ it would pop right back into the WINDOWS folder within less than a second. Finally, the only cure was to uninstall SP2, then reinstall it again. It was a beauty/beast of a trojan ~ one of many that have wormed their way into SP2 holes. . . .so, be careful ~ seeing isn't always believing!! dn0 Posted November 18, 2005 CID Share Posted November 18, 2005 I am trying to click the 'OK' button over and over again, but it won't work? :haha: That is my family for you, they would have pressed OK long before reading and thinking. I'm dreading the day they copy the little X (exit) button and make that easily execute the code. I don't even begin to read any pop up, I just close it. Shug7272 Posted November 18, 2005 CID Share Posted November 18, 2005 If anyone here has ever clicked on anything like this, just ring your light and my friend Tommy will come hit you in the head with a tack hammer.

tonyswhirl Posted November 18, 2005 CID Share Posted November 18, 2005 Not to be a smartazz but I have not seen a popup or even an ad in months - just dont allow them unless it is from a site you know - like paying a bill etc.
ROM-DOS Posted November 18, 2005 Author CID Share Posted November 18, 2005 I'm dreading the day they copy the little X (exit) button and make that easily execute the code. They already have! ~ my advice; make sure you have at least one pop-up blocker program running while your surfing (I've got 3 running). If a pop-up gets through to your browser window (that you don't trust),
tonyswhirl Posted November 18, 2005 CID Share Posted November 18, 2005 Here is a nice popup and ad blocker I have been using for years!! http://proxomitron.info/files/index.html
water Posted November 18, 2005 CID Share Posted November 18, 2005 Another thing to be wary of. If you get an IM on AIM with a URL do not click it. That's a newer rampant bunch of Traojans running around and it's nasty. Ask Aggr3, I clicked one and it sent it off to all the members on my buddy list. The only time you should be comfortable clicking those is if you are also talking to said person and it comes up in conversation. Otherwise, if it comes out of the blue, get that person removed from your list until they completely cleansweep their PC.

netmasta Posted November 19, 2005 CID Share Posted November 19, 2005 I use Firefox, so I hardly ever see pop-ups anymore. Yes, I'll admit a few get through, but that's less than 5%.
raptors892004 Posted November 19, 2005 CID Share Posted November 19, 2005 Those popups seem to get through my Firefox but I would know not to click them even in my sleep
FallowEarth Posted November 19, 2005 CID Share Posted November 19, 2005 Those popups seem to get through my Firefox but I would know not to click them even in my sleep Once, I did click such a link in my sleep. Then I fell into a pit full of tigers. The tigers assured me that the link was valid, so I whipped them. I whipped them so hard. I told them they were BAD! BAD TIGERS! Shug7272 Posted November 20, 2005 CID Share Posted November 20, 2005 you gotta be very f***en stupid to click on that. Hey dont be so judgmental... I have personally stuck more personal objects in less forgiving spaces. I made the cover of Dumbass Weekly one time... yea it was a great pic of me standing there with my sponge bob drawers around my ankles stuck to a pole in the dead of winter. I WAS THERE FOR TWO AND A HALF WEEKS, ohh sure plenty of people pointed and laughed but did anybody help, na.
