CA3LE;For me not long only since the shutdown a few days ago.I usually log in if I'm going to be here a while but if I'm doing other surfing & just want to check quick to see if anything is going on at testmy.Maybe check a topic or two.I don't log in.. I have done it this way for a long time & no problem till the shutdown a couple of days ago. I don't know if anyone else had the problem before that. It worked correctly this morning.

I have ben known to explain id detail. peepnklown ;That's not entirly correct. The link explained it pretty well if you could overlook some of the weird spelling. For an OS with limited RAM they do help.If you have a lot of RAM they probably slow down performance. tommie ;You probably need a long answer. For the settings to turn it off but still use it to monitor use .DO this; In Settings .Under the Memory tab clear all of the auto free boxes. Then check "Don't run if CPU use is above" set to 1%.Since CPU will always be above 1% that should stop it from auto clearing. Then if you think you might want to clear some RAM manually.Dot the circle "try to free" & put in the amount of RAM you want it to try to free. What this does is frees this much RAM when you double click your tray icon. If you think it still might auto free you can also check the "Promt before automatically freeing" You can always R click the tray icon & go to "try to free" It will let you choose a percentage of RAM to try to free. Under the program tab clear all boxes in"Memory related program options" this will keep it from displaying a report. This annoyed me. Under the "other "tab I set left double click to "Automaticall free RAM & Right double click to "No effect" & Normal for CPU . Under sound /shortcuts I set all shortcuts to "none" & unchecked sound. In the "Display "tab check what you want it to display when you R click the tray icon & select restore. On this screen :Dot Autofree & slide the bar all the way left.Make sure to uncheck "Display freeing results report when done with memory options." Then to close it you select minimize & to system tray.If you just close it it will stop the program. This should pretty much let you display the amount of free RAM in your system tray & manually clear RAM.& look at the use in the restore box when you want too. Then tommie try to see if you can use all your RAM.I doubt with 2G you ever run out any way.

This link explains what the RAM optimizers do in general. http://www.winmag.com/columns/explorer/2000/12.htm Even if you don't use it to free RAM.You can set it to do almost nothing. It still gives you a toolbar icon that shows either Ram used or RAM unused which ever you like.I need to verify this but I think they compress data in your Ram some way as well as use virtual . I could slow you down tommie with the amoumt of RAM you have.So if you like the icon just set it to do nothing but that. From what I read you need your virtual memory & page file(swap file) no matter how much RAM you have.XP even needs it more than a 9x OS.Read this on virtual memory in XP: What is Virtual Memory? A program instruction on an Intel 386 or later CPU can address up to 4GB of memory, using its full 32 bits. This is normally far more than the RAM of the machine. (The 32nd exponent of 2 is exactly 4,294,967,296, or 4 GB. 32 binary digits allow the representation of 4,294,967,296 numbers

I haven't tried Tick Roco.I use something simular called "My Vital Agent".I think it is only for 9x OS's.I guess you tried the testmy mirror in Australia?

I'm using IE6 .I just logged out & I purposly didn't clear the browser cache. It loaded all the posts on the page but still no buttons.I took another screenshot & am posting just the very bottom of the page.btw I only have IE as a browser now. I'm fixing to have to go this morning. But I will try later with clearing the cache & maybe a few other things.

I just wanted to see if anyone else had this problem. This started after the site was down the other day. When I select a topic & haven't logged in.I get just the first post with no buttons like in the screen shot below. This doesn't happen with every topic but seems ramdom. If I log in I have no problem with the same topic loading correctly.

dlewis23;Those were questions I was asking VanBuren .He answered that.I don't know why that is what the common value is yet.Or even that it was until Van answered.I agree with you I always saw the 1492 as the setting for ADSL & other DSL It was supposed to have something to do with the header Like the -28 for checking the ping for a MTU of 1500 .Or the -40 from the MTU for the MSS value.I read somewhere the exact reason for the 1492 but I don't remember it right now.I will see if I can find something on it & post it.Just remember I have dial-up & all this is just what I'm still learning.

Hey VanBuren;I know your helping mrproper here but how about a lesson on : why the ADSL with

I watched it once I didn't like the judge.& not much talent either.Except the juggler he didn't like was actually pretty good. For a show of this type to some extent I like Nashville Star. It.s not on right now but should be in the fall You have to have cable or satellite to see it though but it's not on the premium channels.

mrproper;I asked VanBuren to explain some of the settings for ADSL & PPPoA to me in your other post I would like to know myself. dlewis23;If I understand the way that MTU works is that if it is 1 byte too large the packets need to be defragmented & even if it is just 1 byte over it gets its own packet. This is why with a MTU of 1500 you can Ping testmy.net -f -l 1472 & the packet doesn't fragment but if you Ping testmy.net -f -l 1473 it does fragment. The ping order varies some with OS's For example yours might work better with Ping -f -l testmy.net 1472 or Ping -f -l 1472 testmy.net .I just use testmy for an example this is with any site you can ping. The reason for 1472 is the header of 28 bytes. 1472 +28 =1500. & thats -l a small L not a 1 or I. My ISP blocks ping but I can still show you the basics of what I am talking about.Your ping in the second .jpg will look like it usually does except the latency should be more. Mine is what blocked ping looks like but the packets don't defragment until I use 1473. The first pic just shows the ping options I have. The 3rd one shows packets fragmenting.

Hey VanBuren:Time for a tutorial for me. The MTU for ADSL with PPPoA is supposed to be 1500 like cable broadband? The MTU for DSL & possibly ADSL with PPPoE is supposed to be 1492 ? If I have those correct now please explain why. mrproper's MTU & MSS have tested off in this & the other post at least with the TCPIP analyzer test. They show MTU1496 & MSS 1456. I wanted to ask is the TCPIP analyzer test At speedguide.net any good for Windows XP It seems to be more for 9X OS's. The RWIN it reads seems to be MSS based instead of AFD parameter based. mrproper : Theres no problem with seeking more help & VanBuren knows a lot about these settings. That's why I'm asking him to explain this better to me so I can help someone better the next time.

dlewis23 ;I still think that DSL should use MTU 1492 both the css files have the MSS at 1460. TcpRecvSegmentSize 1460 TcpSendSegmentSize 1460 All I really see is the numbers since I have ME but I have the XP Cablenut list & I know this is where this setting goes. That would be for MTU 1500. The css file for DSL should have 1452 I beleive.

tommie ;I will leave it up to you I could give you the make & model but I was leaving this one for someone else.I hate to name all of the guesses.

I do a lot with Ifranveiw but if you expected it to be as good as photoshop no wonder. I bet you didn't try the extract all frames with a gif then run them through the batch conversion. The crop feature works fairly well too. It's a good program for free.

I don't have anything bad to say about the old Ramblers.I almost bought one for my first car.I found a 1961 Ford I liked better. That's not the vehicle I learned to drive in though.I learned to drive in a 1941 Chevrolet pickup of my granddads. On the Chevette most owners of this car were not as lucky as tdawnaz. Some should have came painted lemon yellow. I sort of understand though i had a Pinto I really liked & it ran forever.I sold it still running. With a lot of hard miles put on it by me.Last time I saw itwas in a wrecking yard about a year after I sold it.& yes I'm sure it was my old Pinto. It had a custom paint job in it's better days so there was no mistaking it.

dlewis23;I was going by what mrproper posted .Below is his TCP Optimizer settings or the recomendations it made.the RWIN 538720 would be based on MSS of 1456. TCPOptimizer: Largest MTU=1496 Maximum latency=486 ms BDP=539156 --> making it a multiple of MSS (1456) ---> RWIN=538720 TCP Receive Windows=513920 ---> corrected to 538720 None of the RWIN's he had are a multiple of 4096 or 8192.I think these are the muliples that AFD uses .There may be some more. This is how I understand AFD works for figuring RWIN. The AFD-Windows should be rounded to a multiple of page size(Usually 4096 Bytes). Not a multiple of the Maximum Segment Size(MSS) which is recommended for the TCPIP-Window. The processor manages the mapping in terms of pages of 4 Kilobytes each - a size that has implications for managing virtual memory by the system. These are registry settings that are in Cablenut or in the registry if you do your own. These two below should be based on AFD parameters DefaultReceiveWindow DefaultSendWindow These two should below be multiples of MSS GlobalMaxTcpWindowSize TcpWindowSize Do you know what BDP is?

mrproper ;I didn't mean to go above your technecal level I thought you had the Cablenut program. I'm not as familiar with using TCP optimizer.& need to find out more of how it sets RWIN to suggest the RWIN to use with it. I do know that with DSL the MTU is 1492. the test detected this as 1 of your RWIN settings Default TCP Receive Window (RWIN) = 538720 In windows XP this should be based on AFD parameters.I think your page size is 4096 & the Default TCP Receive Window (RWIN) should be a multiple of that.Your page size could be 8192. But lets assume for now it is 4096 so set your Rwin at 532480 this would be close to the size the tcpip analyzer detected. Then test & see how your system performs. dlewis23 or FallowEarth; do either of you know which TCP Optimizer uses for sure on the RWIN setting it uses.If it uses the MSS to calculate & set the RWIN more like a 9X OS or the AFD parameters based on page size?

That makes sense use the war surplus parts. the first time I remember seeing that car was in an old movie.I have never looked at one of the cars other than in a picture or movie.

You probably just need to clear your cache between tests. This may produce more consistent results on the test. Next you need to change your RWIN to 512512 if you want it that large this way when it scales the unscaled RWIN will be 64064 whiich is the largest you can get with the MSS you use.If you want to try a smaller RWIN then you need to use 256256 so the unscaled RWIN will remain as large as possible. I need to check this & it will change the RWIN from what I suggested .The point is you want it to have the unscaled RWIN as large as possible but under 65535 & based on the MSS.I think with DSL your MTU needs to be 1492 which means your MSS would be 1452 .This would make the RWIN 63888 unscaled & 511104 for the setting. For this setting in Cablenut you need to read the TOS .text file I'm putting in below. DefaultTOSValue I'm also putting in a .txt file that has the MS explanation of what a lot of the CN settings do.

No resopalrabotnick I don't Roco posted the car I just reconized it as a Messerschmitt because I had looked at some 3-wheelers a while back.I found the term kabinenroller when I was making sure thats what it was & finding the model. But I will take a guess since Messerschmitt made aircraft I bet it came from that.Either a nickname for the canopy or maybe a tail gunner turret.

coknuck ;Your right on the Hudson.& because I think that's about as close as anyone is going to get,It is a !954 Hudson Italia

All of us are guilty of this including me.Either we really have no contract we can provee or made a electronic one we don't have a copy of. The point is get a written contract if the won't give you a written signed contract then they probably can't provide what they claim. I know most won't guarantee the speed you are charged for but if they don't on a constant basis & you can prove it you can break the contract. You might even get some money already paid refunded.but probably not more than that.

I think you will find this one difficult.I painted some of the chrome that identified it.I think some member posted this pic on testmy one time.So that member might recognize it & it wasn't me that time.
