  1. karthic ;One more suggestion do you have or might borrow some other hardware that uses USB to see if Windows will detect the USB port(COM 4) with that hardware? Also could COM4 be turned off in your BIOS? How about Plug & Play detection? Could the firewall have MyPhone Explorer blocked? I would suggest to see if there are IRQ conflicts but it would have to detect COM4 to check that. I think the only IE problem would be if the firewall had the MyPhone Explorer blocked. I beleive something in the Intel upgrades turned off the COM4 you just have to find out where.
  2. Have you tried restarting with the phone connected to the USB ?So maybe Windows will detect it. Or see if the add new hardware wizard will detect it with the phone plugged in.
  3. tommie gorman ;I have a story to tell about the Irish & since I have some Irish in my gene pool I feel at liberty to tell the story. This was in the time when we still had slavery in the USA.There was a black slave & an Irishman unloadinf freight on a river .This was a swift part of the river & ocassionally a dock worker would fall or get caught by the current & drown. The slave owner saw that the slave was at the lower end of the loading & in greater danger. He said to the boat captain put the Irishman in the dangerous place He can be replaced for a dime a dozen the slave is worth money.Sort of shows the status of an Irishman in that time in the USA.
  4. Shug7272 ;Heres some to take a look at.I haven't tested any of them because I don't use a screensaver.You may have already checked these . http://www.gui-dynamics.com/RadarSaver.shtml http://www.softhypermarket.com/Click-Clock-download_24294.html http://www.tsmacs.org/cgi-bin/ikonboard/topic.cgi?forum=16&topic=337 http://ww2.weatherbug.com/aff/default.asp?zcode=Z4118&gclid=CKmb7uDqiYYCFRMpNAodoDTUkw
  5. I prefer AVG mostly because I like the way the program works.I tried Avast & for my PC it used more memory. Both kept out the viruses so for that part I guess they are equal.I have used the Kaspersky online scan while using AVG & it never found any virus when I used it so I guess for me the AVG works fine.My only complaint with AVG is when they change to a new version usually the auto update will quite working correctly & I have to DL the new version & uninstall the older one .This fixes the problem.
  6. Shug7272 ;I'm not sure what you want to do.Are you looking for a live radar that is a screensaver? or an animated image that looks like a live radar? I don't know if I could find the first one but I bet there is a way to put a animated image in the screensaver if that is what you want to do.It would be the same animated .gif like any other animated .gif.
  7. justinlay;I don't know if the jumper was the problem but for future reference :The jumper should be done with the computer power off.The CMOS should return to default from the computer battery.I don't know what the effect of starting the computer with the jumper in the reset position would be.The computer battery could also be dead.
  8. Have you tried the jumper for the CMOS if this mb has one? Also could you have a dead battery? The VT82C686B is your South Bridge chip your MB probably has a different number.I did find a manual on the VT82C686B South Bridge & I'm putting it in if it will help.
  9. Zbojnik;I don't have XP so I can only be some help.I had read some about scannow before & looked up some info on it.It has to be used correctly. heres what I got so far: The System File Checker in Win2k/WinXP Post Comment The Windows File Protection is constantly checking whether important files are missing or overwritten and restores them if so. Sometimes it can happen that a file is corrupted anyway, but then one can use the util SFC.EXE with the /SCANNOW option to do a full scan of the critical files and restore those, which have become corrupted: SFC /SCANNOW Note this operation cannot complete without the install CD. Therefore it is important to insert the install CD before launching the above command. If the install path have changed since the original install, then one have to change the source path so SFC can find the install files. Note if having applied a service pack, but the contents of the ServicePackFiles folder has been deleted or moved, then it will ask you for a CD with the servicepack files. To correct this one should reapply the service pack. Note sometimes the WinXP Home will ask for the WinXP Pro CD, but this is not problem as long the above condition have been met. Though it might require that one press Retry several times before the System File Checking begins. Note if using Win2k with SP3 or less, then the /SCANNOW will not recognize hotfixes, so they have to be reapplied after running the scan or else you will be using mixed binaries with unpredictable results. Note SFC only works when Windows File Protection (WFP) is running. Therefore if booting in Safemode or if WFP for some reason won't start, then SFC will fail with an error similar to this: Windows File Protection could not initiate a scan of protected system files. I'm not sure if this would put you back where you were or not /revert : Returns the scan to its default operation. probably would look like this :sfc /revert
  10. justinlay:I found a bios for the mb at this site. You have to be a registered member but thats free. http://members.driverguide.com/driver/detail.php?driverid=119641 If you are able to get that far what OS does it havee ? What computer brand? If you can only get into the bios do you have the passwords for this mb?especially the administrator password if this was ever put into this mb.If it has one & you don't have it you may never get further.
  11. karthic ;I don't usually save web pages but I experimented a little.I have IE6 .Under the File pulldown selece Save as Then I could not save as web page complete but I could save as web page HTML only .This got most of the page.Hope that helps.I agree with the rest some of your posts are hard to understand because of the abbreviations. 12. yappa; I didn't mean to go over your level but if you have a friend that can help you that might be better. If you click & open the text file at the bottom of the my post above it covers IE settings & what they do.I don't beleive any of those will "Crash your drive".You could try them one at a time & see if you browsing improves. Some of the multimedia settings will turn off your pictures & video if you disable them. Some of the security settings can also slow your browser it just depends on other programs you have on whether you should disable some of them. On the 256 being slower I bet it's on your ISP's end.Unless there is still some setting in your modem that iss still at 64 so it is really still at 64 & traffic is just heaveir so it seems slower. Someone with sat like tommie would probably know this better. Thanks for the compliment on the JW pics.I spent a while doing the changing avatar.
  13. yappa : Welcome to the forum. This is a link to the Austrailian testmy test mirror .You might test with it to see how it goes. http://www.testmy.net/o-mirror-ShaneAu2 tommie gorman has sat so he can help you more with that .I know you say you're not tech savy but you might need to tweak your browser some. Below is a text file that explains some of the settings in IE6 Internet Options Advanced. It makes recomendations for the settings but it.s kind of trial & error depending on what you need your browser to do but with the explanations you should be able to decide. This is some tweaking below that might speed up your browser. FOR FASTER WEB PAGE LOADING: This tweak will help web pages load faster, it has no real effect on download speeds, just helps your pc look up websites faster thereby speeding up how fast the page loads and making websurfing more enjoyable. Tip: If you have no use for viewing remote shared printers and are really only interested in shared files, consider deleting the printers key, {2227A280-3AEA-1069-A2DE-08002B30309D}, as well. This will also boost your browsing speed. Right click on it and delete it. Set CPU Priority This setting gives a boost to priority of foreground applications. In very overly-simplified terms, what you see on the screen gets more attention from the CPU than what you can't. [base Hexadecimal] When this baby is set to 1, the foreground (active) application has more CPU power than the background (inactive) apps (if any), and if you set the value to 2, you get even more power to the foreground app: 0 = Foreground and background applications equally responsive. 1 = Foreground application more responsive than background. 2 = Best foreground application response time. The maximum value allowed is 26 (Hex) or 38 (Decimal). Play around with these values till you find your own "sweet spot". BEWARE: Higher settings will drag down system resources considerably, especially when doing something big, like saving a huge Photoshop file or create it if not present: right-click on an empty spot -> select New -> Key -> paste "PriorityControl" (no quotes) into the type-in box -> click OK to save. Now highlight this key, and in the right hand pane create a new DWORD [REG_DWORD] Value. [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESYSTEMCurrentControlSetControlPriorityControl] Win32PrioritySeparation REG_DWORD 0x00000026 (38)
  14. Cool bed.The price is kind of steep I guess because they really don't want to sell it.One complaint it said that it has to be tethered to the 4 walls I dont think I would like dodging those in the dark.At the price I think they could figure a better way to keep the bed in place so it stays floating .Although it supports almost 2000 pounds thats not enough for a king size full depth water bed with a couple of fat peole on it.
  15. These are my comments on the mods tommie put in. part 1 Forget the short tube headers keep the stock exhaust manifold. From there on a H-pipe , dual cats,& dual mufflers is a good idea. The long tube headers that they couldn't use in California probably would give some HP gain but only if the engine is experiencing back pressure in the exaust.I doubt you will have this with the other exhaust mods. The long tube headers have a scavenging effect but not necessary for a pretty stock engine. part 2 The new throttle body & Better air filters will allow better breathing so a good idea.I wouldn't put in the adjustable fuel pressure regulator at least if the engine isn't starving for fuel.I doubt the stock one will be. I would leave out the underdrive pulleys they would give you some HP by not using it but you could end up with overheating & hard steering to name a few problems with this. Of course a lower gear ratio (higher numbers) will improve acceleration & low end performance but you will trade top end (highway speed) for this unless you have the HP to overcome it. The 3.73 wouldn't be too bad but of you could go with something around 3.40 it would be better. This is a fairly expense mod also. part 3 These are pretty expensive parts .To start I like the intake manifold.I would leave it there. If you must go on then the SVO Cobra engine control computer (ECM) first. Then the 24-lb/hr injectors see how it runs with this setup. Then if it seems fuel starved add the SVO in-tank fuel pump rated at 110 lph of flow. For the rockers for a stock motor otherwise I don't think you will notice improvement. Now for my 2 cents with a 100000+ mile motor like they started with it honestly is at least begining to need a valve job. This will effect the mods.If it was a 100000 mostly highway use maybe not but if it was mostly in town the valaes would definatly need a vavle job.You can usually count on the added price of new exhaust valves on a valve job.The intakes usually can be ground & used for the next 100000 if the engine hasn't been overheated at some time & warped them.Go ahead & spend the money to have the heads magnafluxed to check for cracks before the valve job & for warp that can be corrected by planeing. Check the compression befoer the valve job if it seems OK for most cyl & the engine is not smoking then the rings might handle another 50000 but by 150000 they need to be replaced . This usually means an engine bore & new pistons. If you r this far in it's time for a reground crank & new bearings.Might as well replace the cam bearings also & add a mild street cam. New lifters & a high performance timing chain & gears.New oil pump (stock is fine for most cars.) When you have the bore job the pistons you select depends on other mods you plan to make. But basically lower compression for a turbo or blower.Higher compression for natural intake. Not too high or you won't be able to get fuel to run it on the street.
  16. Back to reality from the Bugatti.I'm a 5.0 fan & there are mods you can make.I like the way a carb sounds & runs but if you get one of the FI models & leave it pretty much like it is it will get the best gas milage if thats important to you.If your goal is to fool the insurance company start with a 4 cyl. body the ID# will tell the insurance company it's a 4cyl. Then put a 5.0 in it. Any discount is a good one so the 2 you already have will help I think the will give you between 20 & 30% off.Another one you need to check on is a saftey course. They take about a day & if your insurance will let you use it too thats another 10 to 15% off.In my state you have to take the safety class every 3 years to keep the insurance discount. You can also take it to get some tickets dropped. Some people save it for that but thats a mistake because you can take it for the insurance discount & if you get a ticket you can take it again for the ticket. It can only be used once every 2 years for a ticket but you could take the clsaa one day then get a tcket & take it again the next day to get the ticket dropped. I live in Texas you will have to check you states laws on this.
  17. coknuck;I think Coney Island was supposed to have had one of the racer type coaster.I'v never been on one of those either. My first roller coaster was right here in Amarillo.I don't even know if it had a name.We have a small amusment park here called Wonderland. At that time this was a kid level coaster. Now they have one called the Texas Tornado. It has a really tight loop that forces your head down.IMO not a good coaster. One of the interesting ones I rode was the one on top of the Stratosphere in Las Vegas , Nevada a mild coaster but high above the ground 800 something feet I think.
  18. amc11890: I'm not sure if its the fastest now.I'm sure the Fererri would be close & maybe a few others.
  19. waterRTBH :Lucky you going to Cedar Point. One of the best coaster parks in the world.I haven't been there yet but hope to before I get too old to ride the coasters. The best coaster I've been on is the Desparado in Jean , Nevada. An awsome coaster one of the early ones with a long drop.
  20. tommie gorman ;I was just rattling your chain. The road draft performed the same function as the PCV valve. That is what engines used to vent crankcase pressure before the pcv valve probably 1961 or so back.
