  1. I thought I would put in some Native Americam Patriotism: How can you buy or sell the sky, the warmth of the land? The idea is strange to us. If we do not own the freshness of the air and the sparkle of the water, how can you buy them? Every part of this earth is sacred to my people. Every shining pine needle, every sandy shore, every mist in the dark woods, every clearing and humming insect is holy in the memory and experience of my people. The sap which courses through the trees carries the memories of the red man. The white man's dead forget the country of their birth when they go to walk among the stars. Our dead never forget this beautiful earth, for it is the mother of the red man. We are part of the earth and it is part of us. The perfumed flowers are our sisters; the deer, the horse, the great eagle, these are our brothers. The rocky crests, the juices in the meadows, the body heat of the pony, and man --- all belong to the same family. So, when the Great Chief in Washington sends word that he wishes to buy our land, he asks much of us. The Great Chief sends word he will reserve us a place so that we can live comfortably to ourselves. He will be our father and we will be his children. So, we will consider your offer to buy our land. But it will not be easy. For this land is sacred to us. This shining water that moves in the streams and rivers is not just water but the blood of our ancestors. If we sell you the land, you must remember that it is sacred, and you must teach your children that it is sacred and that each ghostly reflection in the clear water of the lakes tells of events and memories in the life of my people. The water's murmur is the voice of my father's father. The rivers are our brothers, they quench our thirst. The rivers carry our canoes, and feed our children. If we sell you our land, you must remember, and teach your children, that the rivers are our brothers and yours, and you must henceforth give the rivers the kindness you would give any brother. We know that the white man does not understand our ways. One portion of land is the same to him as the next, for he is a stranger who comes in the night and takes from the land whatever he needs. The earth is not his brother, but his enemy, and when he has conquered it, he moves on. He leaves his father's grave behind, and he does not care. He kidnaps the earth from his children, and he does not care. His father's grave, and his children's birthright are forgotten. He treats his mother, the earth, and his brother, the sky, as things to be bought, plundered, sold like sheep or bright beads. His appetite will devour the earth and leave behind only a desert. I do not know. Our ways are different than your ways. The sight of your cities pains the eyes of the red man. There is no quiet place in the white man's cities. No place to hear the unfurling of leaves in spring or the rustle of the insect's wings. The clatter only seems to insult the ears. And what is there to life if a man cannot hear the lonely cry of the whippoorwill or the arguments of the frogs around the pond at night? I am a red man and do not understand. The Indian prefers the soft sound of the wind darting over the face of a pond and the smell of the wind itself, cleaned by a midday rain, or scented with pinon pine. The air is precious to the red man for all things share the same breath, the beast, the tree, the man, they all share the same breath. The white man does not seem to notice the air he breathes. Like a man dying for many days he is numb to the stench. But if we sell you our land, you must remember that the air is precious to us, that the air shares its spirit with all the life it supports. The wind that gave our grandfather his first breath also receives his last sigh. And if we sell you our land, you must keep it apart and sacred as a place where even the white man can go to taste the wind that is sweetened by the meadow's flowers. So we will consider your offer to buy our land. If we decide to accept, I will make one condition - the white man must treat the beasts of this land as his brothers. I am a savage and do not understand any other way. I have seen a thousand rotting buffaloes on the prairie, left by the white man who shot them from a passing train. I am a savage and do not understand how the smoking iron horse can be made more important than the buffalo that we kill only to stay alive. What is man without the beasts? If all the beasts were gone, man would die from a great loneliness of the spirit. For whatever happens to the beasts, soon happens to man. All things are connected. You must teach your children that the ground beneath their feet is the ashes of our grandfathers. So that they will respect the land, tell your children that the earth is rich with the lives of our kin. Teach your children that we have taught our children that the earth is our mother. Whatever befalls the earth befalls the sons of earth. If men spit upon the ground, they spit upon themselves. This we know; the earth does not belong to man; man belongs to the earth. This we know. All things are connected like the blood which unites one family. All things are connected. Even the white man, whose God walks and talks with him as friend to friend, cannot be exempt from the common destiny. We may be brothers after all. We shall see. One thing we know which the white man may one day discover; our God is the same God. You may think now that you own Him as you wish to own our land; but you cannot. He is the God of man, and His compassion is equal for the red man and the white. The earth is precious to Him, and to harm the earth is to heap contempt on its creator. The whites too shall pass; perhaps sooner than all other tribes. Contaminate your bed and you will one night suffocate in your own waste. But in your perishing you will shine brightly fired by the strength of the God who brought you to this land and for some special purpose gave you dominion over this land and over the red man. That destiny is a mystery to us, for we do not understand when the buffalo are all slaughtered, the wild horses are tamed, the secret corners of the forest heavy with the scent of many men and the view of the ripe hills blotted by talking wires. Where is the thicket? Gone. Where is the eagle? Gone. The end of living and the beginning of survival.
  2. How about adding this to it. http://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/1998/05/980504130018.htm NEW ELECTROLYTE Another key part of the battery work is the development of a new electrolyte. A fourth faculty member on the MIT team recently succeeded in doing just that (the work was not reported in the Nature article). Introducing Anne M. Mayes, Class of '48 Associate Professor of Polymer Physics in the Department of Materials Science and Engineering. Professor Mayes's new electrolyte, a polymer, has a variety of novel properties. For one, it's a solid. Conventional electrolytes are liquid, which limits the shape of the battery (you need some kind of vessel to hold the liquid). But the new electrolyte conceived by Professor Mayes is flexible. A battery made of it "would be something with the consistency of a potato-chip bag," Professor Sadoway said. "You could fold it up to make any number of different configurations." Imagine a car powered by a battery that's incorporated into the body panels.
  3. I watched a race with one of these on TV.I would like to see one for regular street use made for max efficiency not power & speed. So the range would be much futher.
  4. Although I'm for a total stop of future immigration to the USA.I think were full now.& have plenty of diversity for the American gene pool. If we are going to continue to allow new immigratns then :Us Americans need to turn the heat back up on the MELTING POT & melt the immigrants & pour them into AMERICAN molds. It's time to return to Americans being Americans period & nothing else.If your loyalty is to another country or culture then thats where you should be.So you can be happy & imerse yoursely in that wonderful culture that is so good you left the USA. So any takers ready to leave the USA for the country & culture you love? If the answer is yes the don't let the door hit you in the ass on the way out. If the answer is no.Then become an American & love this country & its culture. Not the one that was so bad you left or in a lot of case your ancestors left & had no intention of returning. So if you were born in America it's time to accept that you are American not anything else. Not Mexican,Chinese,Japanese ,Viet Namese,Irish,German,English & so on. BTW good articles tommie gorman .
  5. That remind me of something funny I heard on TV. That's analgesic. Your supposed to take it orally.
  6. resopalrabotnick ;I will check it out.I thought maybe the engine used steam for power generated by the heat from a parabolic mirror. VanBuren ;I'm not sure I could even hit hot ground water here.
  7. EWO;Old salt mines either are or are planned to be used as nuclear waste storage too. The Tabasco Sauce company mines their own saly & I think they use the ols salt mines their for their aging process too.I haven't been to Luray Caverns their are actually quite a few caverns to see in the USA.I haven't been to ny even close to Carlsbad in size. One "Cave of the Winds " in Colorado was disapointing. They stopped the reason it was called cave of the winds. It was some hole that caused it they blocked it off because it annoyed the employees .I guess to hell with the tourists that pay to get in.I've only been the one time so it cost them my business. ROM-DOS ;I guess I've lost count on how many times I've went to Carlsbad. It's only 350 miles or so from Amarillo. The first time I went it was a dollar a carload. Now I think it's $8.00 per person. The last time was when I took the special tour that was around $40.00 so I didn't pay attention if the regular admission had gone up.Like everything else they charge you to see some things that were part of the regular admission the first 3 or 4 times I went. & there are 2 more special tours I haven't done yet but will if possible. resopalrabotnick;I haven't heard of a sterling motor. It sounds like it generates electricity.Would that be correct?I saw a simular use of a parabolic mirror to heat water for home use.It also had an electric motor & sensor so it self tracked the sun for more efficiency.I bet the sterling motor could be added to the same device & get two for one. This was it could generate its own electricity for the tracking motor.
  8. ratchet ;I guess I did the "Send Pictures with Message" in format so long ago I forgot about doing it.Aparrently it stays formatted once you do it.I looked at mine & it is checked. It's good to know just in case though.
  9. That is a little cool for me too.You have to go down in the cavern a ways before it is the constant temperture .I think the depth at the elevator & lunch room area is 700 ft below ground level. It feels good in the summer when the outside temp is above 100 F.I really like Carlsbad Caverns.I even went on one of their special tours. If you ever decide to go on one of the special tours book it about 3 months in advance. The one I went on allows only 8 people & 2 park rangers. They only have one a week so that's only 416 people a year that can go on this tour. This is the white giant tour.
  10. I never light my pills on fire so they don't smoke.
  11. I like the idea.Kind of geothermal in reverse.I don't know just how efficient the 50 stories down office buildings would be but heating & cooling should be more efficient. With fiber optis day time lighting could be efficient. It would be pretty strange to drive to the new efficient city with the largest population & it looked like a big park because all buildings are underground. btw Carlsbad Cavern in NM is a constant 55 degrees F. year round.
  12. ratchet; Not to give you too hard a time .Isn't this what I posted as the first answer to your question? You can also put images on a floppy or CD & use them they don't have to be on your Hard Drive.
  13. tommie gorman ;I guess you read the link in ROM-DOS's post. The light that went faster than the speed of light through the fiber optics was negative. I'm sure there is somebody studying what I put after.I haven't seen much on it. But lets take light positive at regular light speed.A laser lense alters the light to a specific spectrum of color or frequency of light.Red is the most common but not the only one.I would like to see more on shifting the spectrum for the effects or even combinig the light from two laser lenses of different spectrum into one lense. Then further altering the frequency by appling sound waves to the lense or laser beam to see the effect this has on what the beam does. For instance does it cut metal better;produce antigravity.a transport beam, or cure cancer. Then to alter it further apply a strong magnetic force to the laser beam to see how this effects it. I'm not sure how to apply radioactivity maybe add an xray beam to the laser beam. So no not a load of smoke.
  14. Very interesting.I would like to see the effect of running the faster negative light through different color spectrum laser lenses & see the effect magnetic & sound waves applied at the same time have on it.Maybe even add a little applied radioactivity to the mix.
  15. ratchet ;I went to the image hosting site you posted & did an image then I copied all the codes.I then tried to send them to my gmali & back to outlook express. They never even changed from code.I tried to put them in like FallowEarth's & dlewis23's examples. I had no problem sending it as an image the way I posted before . So if you can't insert a picture in OE the regular way.Maybe your OE has became corrupt & you need to reinstall it.
  16. EWO :we agree on most of this.I am somewhat of an enviromentalist. But with care I think we could do both. But I will say this the Alaskan oil belongs to every citizen of the USA & if we allow it to be drilled the oil companies shouldn't be allowed to make a profit even if the United States government has to do the drilling. This profit from this oil should be used to take care of all the things the USA needs like rebuilding New Orleans. I have even seen requests for Naive Americans needing wood stoves. If we are neglecting them to this point then some of the profit could go there. We sure don't have the money to send out of the USA. On the Alaskan oil:They pump natural gas back into old wells because they have no way to ship it.In the great forsight the builders (our government) didn't build a natural gas pipeline with the oil one.Now they wont to build a second gas pipe line costing billions. We do have a pipeline fairley close that could be used .It belongs to Canada. But I,m sure we could work somethig out with them. I would also send the UN packing. They should be in Geneva not in the USA. I really think we have been lied to about oil & you can hit it almost anywhere on Earth you drill. They sure seem to be able to off shore drill almost anywhere so why not onland as well. It's not done because of diplomacy & economics.Because if they let us know this is possible the price goes down & the Middle East goes back to camel herding.
  17. Hi all;I decided this topic might be viewed more in general discussion. The polls section is a good idea but sometime polls aren't viewed as much.Since it located below archives. EWO ; Another nice picture
  18. EWO;I'm adding these they are links to a slide show & video from the link in your post. http://denver.rockymountainnews.com/news/finalSalute/ http://cfapp2.rockymountainnews.com/slideshow/slideshow.cfm?type=DEFAULT&ID=012006lundstrom&NUM=1 I think I will put the links in the Ameriacn flag topic too.
  19. ratchet; In OE when you are sending a new message there is a picture selection in the insert pulldown.Mine has an icon on the toolbar in new message too. If your trying to put in a picture that will be in every e-mail you send then I don't know how to do that.Except to put it in each time.
  20. tommie gorman ;Your being too nice.My idea is more of tell the ones we owe "Go to hell"we've decided we don't owe it .If you don't like do something about it.Or bend over & take it like the American taxpayers do.If we don't mind sticking it to our own people why should we mind sticking it to you? For the UN send them packing from the USA to Geneva where they should be anyway.
  21. I'm with resopalrabotnick I want to know more of the why do you want the slow down? I doubt you could get it down to 20kpbs without it being dial-up.Or that anyone could help you do that. I haven't used a bandwidth manager but it might be able to.If it's someone elses computer they should notice if you add software. They will also probably check their cablenut settings. To give you the correct cablenut information if someone wants to we would need to know what OS you are using. Now I will give you some help I wouldn't give any direct registry hacks but since cable nut is easy to change back this is my suggestion.go to this site: http://j79zlr.com/ Use their analyser for your OS for cablenut settings.I would suggest using the dial-up settings. This might change the MTU down to 576 & will use a smaller RWIN.& that shuld slow it some.Turn up any security settings in the brower, firewall,av,& spyware programs.Make sure these run at start up with as much of them running as you can.The same with any other resource hog software run it at start up.The more programs you have running the slower the pc will be.If you have any RAM freeing soft ware turn it down as much as possible where it really doesn't do anything. Now for the warning you shouldn't do this unless it's your PC it is wrong to do this to someone else.I hope they have their software &OS password protected so you can't change even these settings.
  22. Let them try to collect it.We could just declare all US debts to foreign countries null & void.Wipe the slate clean. What would they do about it other than not give us more credit & they can't even afford to do that .They would just have to eat the loss.
  23. Roco .Some of the members were posting about pancakes & breakfast. So I thought that would add some humor to the topic. I voted way back at the start of the topic. Gas has gotten too high.I bet you really enjoy your small engined car. But it has nothing to do with mangles/ wringers/ Banners.Did you read my post about my grandmothers old washing machine?
