I would have to recommend running 2 hitachi 80MB sata II hard drives in raid 0 - they run insanely fast and costs only 100 dollars for both of them - i have data to prove it also !

simply follow the instructions you find here http://www.luwigie.com/tweaks/FAQxp2000.pdf

Well all right, here is my quick explanation 1) Processor - pretty much a starting point when building any computer - choose your way: Intel or AMD - research the topic to see which one appeals more to you and to your needs - when you choose to go either Intel or AMD, there are many choices within each, different socket processors, different cores, but thats another topic here 2) Motherboard - Once chosen which way you would like to go, Intel or AMD, you have to choose your motherboard - it is one of the main parts of your computer which pretty much glues everything together - you are pretty much shopping for features, and you have to make sure it is compatible with your processor 3) Memory (RAM) - You pretty much can't go without this - once chosen the motherboard you want, you will have to choose how much memory you want in your computer and which type (yes, there are also different types of memory) - I recommend at least 512MB 4) Storage (Hard drives) - You will need at least 1 ! - They come in different sizes, types - for most people I would say 80GB would be enough - very cheap and always upgradeable/expandable 5) CD/DVD Drives - DVD drives are very cheap now days, buying one of those will allow you to read all CD formats and DVD formats as well - if you decide to buy yourself a DVD burner (DVD

My new system - ordering things tonight ;)

I know that I could have chosen few things that are less expensive (and could have served the same purpose as well) - like the 3500+ processor or the 6800gt video card - but the prices of each are just about $20 dollars less than what I have in mind and the 7800gt video card by eVGA is for sale 60 dollars under msrp untill the 29th -
Motherboard: DFI LANPARTY nF4 SLI-DR Processor: AMD Athlon 64 3700+ Memory: OCZ EL Platinum Revision 2 1GB (2 x 512MB) Storage: Western digital 36.7gb 10,000RPM SATA HD Western digital 80.0gb 7,200RPM SATA HD Video card: eVGA 7800GT 256MB GDDR3 PCI Express x 16 Case: Antec Performance I P160 Power supply: OCZ PowerStream 520W Power Supply I know I have had a dillema about which motherboard to get (either the msi platinum sli or this dfi motherboard - after researching the topic i have concluded that the dfi is what i want) Suggestions / Comments ? - Please say something before its too late hehehe
-
so any other thoughts on this motherboard ? im assuming noone else really wanted to spend that much $ on that lol
-
i think ill go with the dfi dr sli motherboard, and i guess when it comes to motherboards we also have the same taste - im going with antec, but with the following case http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16811129141 i guess its a very similar case to the one you recommend
-
so you think its definitely worth the $ ? - i mean, i was thinking of spending about 200 dollars on a case, and thought it thru - decided to spend more on a motherboard and keep the case in the 100 dollar range
-
I am very much ready to build my next computer - and I have a big dillema - I have read numerous reviews for the best SLI/Overclocking motherboards out there and have concluded that these two motherboards steal the game MSI K8N Neo4/SLI Platinum DFI nF4 SLI-DR They are far more superior over other motharboards and will give me the best performance I lean towards the MSI motherboard but the other day I was reading the Hardocp.com review of the said m/b and they claim, at the end of their review, that there are some errors in the area of overclocking that the MSI itself cannot even fix - !?!?!?!? - Does anyone have any idea about this ? What is this all about ? Has anyone used any of these 2 motherboards before - I really do appreciate input before I finalize my purchase

ps dual channel is not a type of ram
-
I would personally not go for samsung brand - if you have $ go with either kingston value ram or corsair - dual channel means basically that your mobo will have 2 memory controllers - i believe that it doesnt have anything to do with the ram itself - its just an advertising scheme
-
ay....... 1st - you will not dual channel if your motherboard doesnt support it 2nd - his motherboard doesnt seem to support it 3rd - stepping it up from 266mhz to 400mhz - you will see a noticable difference if you just have 512mb of ram compared to 1 gig at 266mhz
-
and yes....if you have faster and slower ram in your system (mismatched) - your comp will take the slower one as your ram speed
-
if you have a choice of 1 gig of pc2100 ram and 512mb of pc3200 ram go for the pc3200
-
there is no way you can have a decent gaming machine starting out with that system - upgrading your ram will give you some boost - not a lot at all - your processor power is holding you back big time buddy - screw getting a new video card, save up some money and get something you can actually game with
-
pretty stoopid - thesharing of music/movies/programs will never stop for as long as computers exist - its a simple fact - they can try and try but will never accomplish their goal so i say.....just give up and put some more money where it belongs, in my pocket
-
what we're saying is that your ISP advertises speeds in kilobits (768kb) which is equal to about 96 kilobytes (KB) - and if you are anywhere above 96KB you are over your cap speed
