  1. The traceroute shows that the communication between the router and modem could be a lot better. In order to determine whether its an issue with the router or with the modem, you will have to make a direct connection and provide a traceroute.
  2. Trace looks pretty good. I would suggest running the line packet loss test here: [LINK] Run this online malware scan (takes about 20-30 mins on avg): [LINK] Then get cablenut here: [LINK] Once cablenut is installed, download the file I have attached, open it, click save to registry in the adjuster window, and reboot your PC. Once you've done this, post back with the results of the packet loss test and a new speedtest.
  3. mobbdeep1122, there is definitely some communication breakdown to your modem. Look at the times in the first hop of your trace--those times should all be <10. Can you try using another cable and running another trace with a direct connection? Communication between your router and PC looks really good, so I'd say they're ok. If the cable doesn't resolve this, call your ISP (if you lease your modem). It's time for a new cable modem. <hr> With a direct connection, you should be able to log into the diagnostic page for your modem by typing 192.168.100.1 into the address bar of your browser. If you can find the signal levels and post them back, that would be helpful.
  4. Oh snap. Try a direct connection to the modem and run the check.bat again. Make sure that the light labelled "Internet" on the modem is on (otherwise, hit the button on the front/top).
  5. I can't stand solicitation, but one thing that the Internet does is desensitize you to having products constantly shoved in your face. Unfortunately, the two go hand in hand, and I doubt very much that that will ever change. Your privacy will always be vulnerable, so you just have to be wise in your actions. But complete anonymity would make the Internet unsafe, because then anyone could get away with anything (it's bad enough as it is). Since the Internet is de-centralized, and more or less un-policed, most companies take their own measures to ensure some sort of regularity. There will always be a way to trace an action back to the culprit. So surf wisely, grasshopper.
  6. Doesn't look like Cablevision is using Level 3
  7. GIXXERGUY6, the computer you're testing on, is it wireless? Do you notice that the speeds drop at a certain time of day? Read about factors affecting wireless signal here: [LINK] Also, we'd like to see some pings and traces. Save and extract this program to you desktop, run it, then open the check.log file it creates and post the results here. https://testmy.net/forum/index.php?action=dlattach;topic=6415.0;id=3093
  8. Got a router (is it wireless)? Try a direct connection to the modem and post trace and speedtest.
  9. That's a strange network Eebobb. But yes, most the time the use of Level 3 will be fine. But some ISP's have better links to them than others, and some times of day are much better than others. But Level 3 seems to be getting more consistent.
  10. Cholla, trace looks kinda shaky at the end, but I suppose it's not too bad for dial-up. I see some latency when getting into the Williams Communications (OK) network (64.200 IP block) and the NTS Communications (TX) network (65.182 IP block), which eventually causes the timeouts. Are either of those your ISP or an affiliate of, that you know? Do you consistently get these results from the trace at this site? I'm not as familiar with these two networks, but it's possible that there is a network issue. I've provided some links from the ARIN whois, which contain contact information that you could send your traceroute results along to. NTS Communications: http://ws.arin.net/cgi-bin/whois.pl Williams Communications: http://ws.arin.net/cgi-bin/whois.pl
  11. Your upload would be capped at 384 Kbps, so you may not be able to boost it as much as you are hoping.
  12. Yeah, hop 1 (router) to hop 2 (modem) shows a lot of latency. I agree with amc11890, I think you should make a direct connection to your modem and run another traceroute and speed test.
  13. No it doesn't look very good. The jump from hop 2 to hop 3 is way too high. Try making a direct connection to the modem and running another trace.
  14. There are ongoing issues with latency through the Level 3 backbone. This affects many ISP's. If you're seeing high times in a traceroute on your RR connection, please post here to help us track it: http://www.testmy.net/forum/index.php?topic=11000
  15. Road Runner currently uses the Level 3 backbone for the most part. I'm not sure about a couple of years ago.
  16. Here's a couple of links for trojan removal software: http://www.simplysup.com/ http://www.trojanhunter.com/ http://www.ewido.net/en/ You can also try ewido's online scan, it's quite good.
  17. Look for a reset button on your modem. It is usually a pinhole.
  18. Help us out here: Any new hardware? Any new software? Still wireless (hows the signal)? Any downloads going? Firewall running? And please provide a traceroute for a time when your speed is slow.
  19. TweakUI is a great tool. There are also releases for previous versions of Windows.
  20. Hey revolucionario...a little strange, but hey. I would try the file I have attached, it probably close enough.
  21. Cablenut tweaks your registry to allow data to be transferred over your network interface with better efficiency, so in many cases it is that simple. Once you have applied the settings, it is permanent.
  22. Well if that's the case, I would say that the gun side would wipe about 75% of the population out initially, put some high fences up around their property, with some turrets and shit, rig the place up with landmines and sit back. richcornucopia, yep that's me.
