  1. HP Proliant server (main) & Dell Precision (mail marshal); Cisco PIX firewall ; Cisco 1700 series router; Netvanta fiber-optic box; dual T-1 from NAII & a 12,000 btu Carrier Swamp Cooler yea baby~! -JxL
  2. Interesting article today from 'The Insider' ... "Siberia feels the heat-- It's a frozen peat bog the size of France and Germany combined, contains billions of tonnes of greenhouse gas and, for the first time since the ice age, it is melting A vast expanse of western Sibera is undergoing an unprecedented thaw that could dramatically increase the rate of global warming, climate scientists warn today. Researchers who have recently returned from the region found that an area of permafrost spanning a million square kilometres - the size of France and Germany combined - has started to melt for the first time since it formed 11,000 years ago at the end of the last ice age." full article--> http://www.theinsider.org/news/article.asp?id=1446 almost sounds like "Judgement Day" is upon us :( -JxL
  3. Ignorance is Bliss Bossman: "justin, we have a serious issue with my computer" JxL: "ok...you have one of the Dell Precision towers, right?" Bossman: "yes...everything is painfully slow, especially my email. Sometimes it locks up, the outlook window..." JxL: "i'll be up there in 5 minutes". --initial investigation confirmed , very very slow general operating tasks &
  4. It's got to be the POP3 server settings; either the server info is wrong or has changed; should be port 25 if i recall correctly..make sure it is not blocked by BellSouth..i would get a spec sheet from bellsouth on those email settings for sure. I know for sure that MSN & BellSouth do not allow you to send mail using your own domain. *update*
  5. in my basement, is the Real Deal: circa-1968 Zenith "Console Stereo TV Deluxe"; speakers are mounted either side of the screen & on top, is 2 lift-up doors that reveal true Zenith "Diamond Stylus Deluxe" turntable & built-in FM tuner, complete with the big red tuning bar linked to the oversized gold knob.
  6. Just a note , agreeing to the previous few posts regarding the bad hard drive; it is certainly the problemmo, i would at least toss in a new 20 Gb system drive just to see...the 29.99$ drive will go farther than Comp USA's 95.00/hr tech fee... -JxL
  7. Hmmm almost forgot one thing; about the Folding project...Lots of TestMy users ask me how i get such high points on less WU's...the secret is to have at least one machine (if you can spare one) doing the "greater than 5 Mb work assignments & results return". The bigger WU's yield tons more points, example: p1140_RIBO_FSpeptide_EXT_nospring <--bigass WU 84665<-- # of atoms 14.00 <--preferred time (days) 82.00 <--final deadline (days) 600.00 [b]<---credit (POINTS) compared to a smaller WU p1602_NTL4MUreGS (3411 Atoms, 38.00 Credit Points) One machine or 15, we all can make a difference~! -JxL
  8. This cable is supposed to be 10Mbps "Mach-10 RCN" but we're happy with the band we get; 8.5, 10....not much of a difference anyway lol Upload has always been ghetto on this connex...i had BellAtlantic/Verizon Pro DSL several years ago & the upstream smoked this one...was like yours, around 800Kbps max... Good thing you're not on Verizon these days, stay with Sprint; Verizon is doomed with problems such as crippling slow speeds & obviously saturated/bottlenecked lines especially in the North East (NY-PA-MA)... I use mom's AO-hell dialup (33.6 sizzler) now & then so i don't forget how bad it used to be ~!~! keep the faith ~! :D -JxL
  9. Verizon certainly does use PPoE; I used Bellatlantic/Verizon for 5 years & i also recommend not installing their software...windows dialer will work fine & you will be 500Mb lighter on the hard drive after you toss the Verizon cd out the window... -JxL
  10. Yet another aggravating "oops" from MS & Billy-Boy. Unfortunatly i know of No fixes to this; i use an ie6 plugin called PrintPunk, it is a page resizer & works fine. http://www.printpunk.com/downloads.htm -JxL
  11. Welcome & hey good pipe there; is that Sprint DSL you have? -JxL

Re-install current version of WMP. -JxL
  16. One big difference that hurts XP Home is that is supports only up to 5 peers on a network; whereas XP Pro is unlimited of course. It does have some nice admin tools too. -JxL
  17. :shock:Jesus Chrysler thats some sick speed for such short money, we are truly green with speed-envy
  18. i missed the launch braodcast due to a Dr's appointment but glad to hear it went well; i cannot measure or begin to comprehend the amount of dedication it took these 7 space travellers to board the ship with the Columbia disaster still fresh on everyones mind; this is a level of valor and duty which sends most people running to the hills....highest accolades & safe return shouting out to this shuttle crew -JxL
  19. welcome back to the Need for Speed  -JxL
  20. ....Makes a person ill to see (one of) the wealthiest people on the planet do so much belly-aching over some lost dollars...It is a part of big business, a part of the Big Machine, whatever you want to call it. If Billy-Boy ever steered some of that paranoid energy onto more worthy & productive projects, he could quite possibly be written into the history books as the pioneering icon of the computer age, instead of the pie-faced slob the people love to hate.... The news article about MS intending to procure the largest Spam outfit for force-feeding its' products says it all. I still like Win2k though
  21. Verizon DSL (and its' predecessor BellAtlantic) & WinXP clash together almost as hideously as Ted Kennedy & alcoholics anonymous. Many Point-to-Point Protocol over Ethernet (PPPoE) clients from third-party vendors will not properly operate or install in Windows XP. You must use the Windows XP built-in PPPoE client; save the Verizon Install disc for use as a great drink coaster. There are known problems with the following third-party PPPoE clients: WinPoET version 2.1a or earlier does not install on Windows XP. Enternet 300 version 1.34 or earlier does not install correctly on Windows XP. RASPPPoE does not install correctly on Windows XP. If RASPPPoE is installed before an upgrade, it must be removed before the Windows XP native PPPoE client is able to work. Hope this helps- JxL
