  1. All ISP's want you to stay because you are paying them, but if the contract is up, you are free to do whatever you like with their service.
  2. I'm sure a lot of you already know these, but there may be some who find them useful. http://www.pcworld.com/article/136862/15_undocumented_firefox_tips.html
  3. Sorry, but I don't think that's a fair comparison. One person who intentionally takes another's life during the act of a crime does not deserve to live out the rest of his/her's being supported, educated, housed and fed by my tax dollar. Nurturing a person like that does not have a direct correlation to being pro-life.
  4. I would also go wireless. I just replaced a router with a Linksys WRT54G2 and I love it. Great connection anywhere inside the 1100 sq ft apartment and even sitting outside. I set up 2 laptops and a desktop (all wireless) with WPA2 security which is supposed to be the most secure option and it took literally 10 minutes. And I'm a relative noob when it comes to networking.
  5. I guess I'll have to tell my stepdaughter that she was just imagining the problem then.
  6. As long as both computers have iTunes on them, it shouldn't be a problem. But be warned. Rumor has it that Apple got greedy and now you can only buy music from the iStore to download to your iPod. Unless you use an older version of the iTunes software. Check it out first, but here's a link to the older versions: http://www.filehippo.com/download_itunes/ My stepdaughter was having issues with hers trying to get music from WMP10 or LimeWire onto her iPod.
  7. I'm with muddy on that one. Air in the line would be purged by turning the wheel full lock each way and holding it for no more than 2 seconds with the engine speed at 1500 RPM. You have other problems.
  8. Reboot your machine in safe mode and then try to remove it.
  9. I personally think life begins at the point of conception. It was a living sperm cell that fertilized a living egg so how can it not be alive? But I still don't think the government has any responsibility for the baby. I mean, when we say "Uncle Sam screwed me again", that's just a figure of speech.
  10. (From news story, not tommie's words} Obama said he would limit abortions in the late stages of pregnancy if there are exceptions for the mother's health. He said he knew that people who consider themselves pro-life will find his stance "inadequate." He said the government should do more to prevent unwanted pregnancies and to help struggling new mothers, such as providing needed resources to the poor, and better adoption services. This is the biggest load of shit. The government should absolutely stay out of everyone's sex life. Who should "do more to prevent unwanted pregnancies", you ask? The people having unprotected sport sex, not the damn government! If a woman doesn't want to get pregnant, she should insist on birth control or abstinence. Or does that just make too much sense to Senator Obama? Why should my tax money be used to encourage promiscuity? I don't care how poor you are, it doesn't cost a dime to NOT have sex.
  11. Kids get enough of the wrong kind of sex education from video games, movies and the garbage that passes for music these days. They don't need sex education to be scheduled in between finger painting and nap time in their kindergarten class. Let them be kids, for crying out loud. Teach them about sex when they are old enough to understand what they are being taught.
  12. I know what you mean, but when he installed one stick he said it only showed 512MB instead of 1GB. I'd really be disappointed with Crucial if they did not accept that as a possibility and allow him to swap it for another kit.
  13. Or the more obvious answer could be that they sent you a 1GB kit improperly labeled as a 2GB kit.
  14. Comcast sent me a "past due" notice on July 25, 2008 for my first bill in my new apartment that had a due date of August 1, 2008. How fucked up is THAT?
  15. I especially like the "appeaser" one. That's basically the whole Democratic platform isn't it? Last week I heard a news story on CNN where Obama was in Germany talking about pulling our troops out of Iraq. Then with his other face he started talking about how we can't allow Iran to have a nuclear program. What's he going to do when Iran tells him to go get fucked? Call them bad names? Why can't Democrats understand that you can't make idle threats and try to coerce actions if you have no intention of backing up what you say?
  16. Does anyone know how I can consolidate the 3 toolbars in IE7 into one? This article describes how it should work, but I tried it on a Vista machine and my XP laptop and the "classic menu" option simply is not there. http://www.microsoft.com/windows/ie/community/columns/ie7_toolbar.mspx
  17. XP is still easy to find and relatively inexpensive: http://www.computersworth.com/category.cfm?cat=191&catname=Windows%20XP%20
  18. What is your RWIN set to? Try experimenting with the recommended numbers but also remember that if you go too high, even using a recommended setting, sometimes it will actually decrease your speed.
  19. I also have a problem. I am using the same Linksys WRT54GS wireless router I had in Houston with the same laptop (Dell Inspiron with 1390 wireless mini card) but I can only get about 1/2 of my download speed after moving to the Chicago area. My upload is still very good, as you can see. I can hard wire to the router and get just over the 6 meg advertised speed but my wireless speed is terrible all of a sudden. The battery in my laptop needs to be replaced (I get a notification on startup) but I usually have it plugged in to an electrical outlet anyway. Does anyone know if the battery has anything to do with it? The reason I ask that is I also have another laptop and a desktop connected to the router wirelessly and they have no speed issues.
  20. I got this from MSN's "the week in pictures" last month. It doesn't show well here but it's actually a very cool picture of a lightning storm in a volcanic eruption in Chile.
  21. I told my friends a several years ago, before FF was very popular, that the reason it's safe is because it's not fun to hack a system that only a relative handful of people use. Now that more people use it, and feel smugly safe in doing so, they are finding out that FF isn't the answer to all their online security problems. Mac computers are safe too, but as they gained popularity in recent years, vulnerabilities were discovered there as well.
  22. That's a skin I was using last year. I still have it but I use different ones from time to time. And yeah, I use IE6 because it's faster than FF for me and the compatibility thing and customization are nice too. Firefox simply will not work at my job.
