I am also going to have to disagree... in the past year or so there have been huge developments in Linux for retail users. As it stands right now 80% of what you can do on the command line you can also do in a GUI app. I think you would be impressed by the new Ubuntu live cd, Suse 10.1, or maybe even fedora core.. The linux developers are currently trying to make it easier for those who want to get rid of windows and move to linux. One major improvement is the vista like "start" menu that should be out with Suse 10.2 running KDE.. KDE Kickoff As far as flash goes... yeah it is some what of a pain.. but you can get it up and running no problem by reading the install instuctions from Adobe.. they are also working on bring the linux version up to the windows version soon..

Swimmer replied to TimPawlak's topic in Show off your speed
Very nice.. much better backbone that insight.. -
well i guess you killed that one.. Just make sure what you know what you are buying.. I have seen too many people buy WRT's that were flash bad and bricked.. then someone sold them on ebay..

I have an old netgear ps sitting around he somewhere.. If it is the same voltage and everything.. I can set it to you if you pick up shipping..
-
hmm.. that is pretty interesting.. i guess the 4800 prices have yet to fall..
-
my guess would be because the hardware wont support all of the features... I know absolutely nothing when it comes to mac...
-
that is pretty much the only what to make it work.. I would still invest the money in getting a router.. It will save you lots of headaches in the long run and then you dont have to have your computer on at the same time that you are using your xbox.. unless you are using xbconnect.

broadcom has the least native support in linux... However, that doesnt mean that it can not be run on Linux.. I have a broadcom wifi based card that I am running with the ndiswrapper.. http://ndiswrapper.sourceforge.net/ This app allows you to use the Windows .inf files to build the driver for linux. It take a few minutes to get up and running but once it is up the performance is pretty good.. However, with the wifi the speeds are a little slower. If you need help getting the card up and working let me know.. I will write a guide this weekend on this subject.

Cause AMD is discontinuing the Athlons on 939.. So everything is really cheap.. Looks good to me.. i like what disturbed posted... I would go with an antec ps.. just cause that is what I have always used...
-
problem is that it isnt a router.. it is a hub.. so once you have the ip adress, from the ISP, released to the computer the Xbox will not work... I bet if you disconnect you pc it will work.

Best Way to transfer from Slave drive to slave drive?
Swimmer replied to asubaseball727's topic in General Help
well there are apps that come with your hard drives that will copy from drive to drive that is a possibility.. I am sure that there is a way to copy a partition also.. I would have to look into that.. -
Very nice build.. The mobo is practially a server motherboard.
-
It wouldnt help network performance.. it would help system performance because the network stack would get smaller.

if you are really concerned about the temp you can get a hard drive cooling kit. http://www.zipzoomfly.com/jsp/ProductDetail.jsp?ProductCode=370811 Newegg has a plastic one for $5.00.. It should help lower the temperature of the drive.. How is the rest of the case? Is it also running hot?

Swimmer replied to Sharky2006's topic in General Discussion
Did some more research into it and you are right.. looks like they just made it deleteable at run time.. Interesting http://blogs.msdn.com/wndp/archive/2006/08/04/WinInet_Index_dat.aspx -
Yeah... the school disount is nice.. I thought Amazon release this info too early... I remember seeing something about this on Digg maybe.. or maybe it is was the Ps3

It works.. but then you are going to have to spend the money on the cards so that you can use the mimo technology.. and they are not cheap

alright.. we will give it a try... PC Specs: Dell Inspiron 8600 with 1.86 Pentium M, 1 gig ram, 60GB 7200rpm hard drive. Insight: 4000/384 Wrt54G with DD-WRT v23 SP1 The system just had XP Pro SP2 installed last week. I am going to restart before I run the test.. All cache, history, and cookies were removed. ::::::::::.. IE7 Beta...where are the Index.dat fiiles...?
Swimmer replied to Sharky2006's topic in General Discussion
index.dat was discarded in IE7.. so it wont be there.. -
shouldnt need anymore.. most hard drives dont produce a lot of heat.. unless you have a 10,000rpm hard drive like a SCSI driver of one of Western Digitals Raptors... I have seen a few Maxtor SATA II drives that get pretty warm..

My fav out of that list were the Dlinks.. I refuse to buy anything that has the word Netgear on it as far as consumer products go.. I would be likely to buy the DI-624 and the wifi card instead of the mimo router.. that is just going to cost more money to get up and running... As far as the linksys goes.. I am a sucker for any pre v5 wrt54G routers. There is now a v6 out.. my brother just had to buy one and I was shocked to see v6.. There are a few options.. I personally think that the best firmware out there is DD-WRT no questions asked. There is always ebay.. or the WRT54GL which is made to run linux firmware..
